Chapter 4
After we finished eating, He suggested that I go to sleep in the room. I hesitated, wanting to ask more questions. But He insisted that it wasn't the right time and that I needed rest. Reluctantly, I agreed, but not before making one last request.
"Just one more question," I pleaded.
He sighed but agreed, "Okay, ask."
Curiosity burning inside me, I asked the most basic question, "What is your name?"
He said, " my name is Daksh".
Daksh smirked, turning the tables on me. "Well, I haven't asked your name either. What's your name?"
Realizing he had a point, I relented, "Fair enough. My name is Rakshita."
Daksh nodded in acknowledgment. "Okay, Rakshita. Now go to sleep. Tomorrow will be an eventful day, and you'll need your rest."
Resigned to his insistence, I muttered, "Fine, I'll sleep."
I entered the single bedroom and settled into the bed. My mind was filled with a myriad of questions, but exhaustion soon overpowered me, and I succumbed to sleep.
The next morning, I woke up to find Daksh preparing some food for me. As I approached him, he handed me a cup of hot water and gestured toward the washroom. I remembered suddenly that I didn't have any spare clothes.
"Wait," I interjected, "do you have any spare clothes?"
Daksh anticipated my need and responded, "Of course. I knew you would need something. I have clothes in various sizes."
He fetched the clothes, and to my surprise, they were all the same color but in different sizes. It was an odd assortment. Then it struck me: these were women's clothes.
Puzzled, I asked Daksh, "How do you have women's clothes?"
A mischievous smile played on his lips as he answered, "I knew about your arrival."
Confused, I pressed further, "But how? How did you know I would come here?"
Daksh's response sent a shiver down my spine. "You are the savior of this world, Rakshita. You are our princess."
My face drained of color, and I grasped onto a nearby chair for support. "How is that possible? Are you joking? You must be making fun of me!" I laughed nervously.
Daksh's expression remained serious as he asserted, "You are our savior, and Queen Sand has sent me to bring you to the designated place at the appointed time. There's a celebration awaiting your arrival."
I sat back down, trying to process this newfound information. "Why me?" I inquired.
Daksh shook his head, perplexed. "I don't know. The queen has all the answers."
I probed further, frustration building. "Why don't you know? How can you not know?"
Daksh's voice softened. "The queen is the one who possesses that knowledge."
I sighed, feeling a mix of emotions. "And how did I come here? That book the old woman gave me, it flew me here. Is that what you're talking about?"
Daksh confirmed my suspicion, "Yes, that book."
Desperation overwhelmed me as I sought a way back home. "How do I return to my place?"
Daksh replied hesitantly, "I don't know."
My anger surged, and I raised my voice, "You don't know? How can you not know how to send me back?"
Daksh fell silent, his head bowed in defeat. "I'm sorry, I truly don't know. But," he added, "the queen has all the answers."
Tears welled up in my eyes as I struggled to maintain composure. "Fine, then. I will go to your queen."
Accepting Daksh's offer, I took the clothes he provided and headed towards the washroom. In that moment, it struck me that I hadn't seen myself since I arrived in this strange world.
Daksh interrupted my thoughts, placing lunch on the table. "Are you going to eat?"
Feeling conflicted, I initially declined. However, hunger gnawed at my stomach, and I realized I couldn't ignore it any longer.
"You're forcing me to eat," I grumbled, "but I'll have some food, okay?"
As I sat down to eat, Daksh's smile brightened the room. He watched me intently, seemingly captivated by my appearance in the green knee-length frock, my light brown complexion complementing the outfit.
After devouring every morsel on my plate, I looked at Daksh and waved my hand playfully. "What's with the curious gaze?"
Daksh hesitated, averting his eyes. "Nothing," he replied softly.
Seeing through his facade, I prodded, "Something's on your mind. Tell me."
Daksh reluctantly admitted, "I noticed that you ate all the food."
Understanding his surprise, I explained, "I don't like wasting food. That's why I finished it all."
His smile widened, and he took the empty plate, saying, "It's good to see."
Suddenly, Daksh changed the topic, urging, "We should leave soon."
Despite being hungry again, I decided to withhold my appetite. I realized Daksh hadn't actually seen me eat, and it amused me to keep him guessing.
"I'm not hungry," I lied, knowing he couldn't see through my words.
Daksh nodded, seemingly convinced. "Alright, let's go then."
As we ventured towards the unknown, I couldn't shake the feeling that my life had taken an unexpected turn. But with Daksh by my side and the promise of answers from the queen, I embarked on a journey that would shape my destiny.
