The Night's Sun

"Okay, so the twins already go to sleep.." Rei said to Takeshi hesitantly.

"Good, i'm tired too. Bye Rei."

"Take.."

"Just don't forget to lock the door and go already!"

"If the neighbour knows I leave 3 little kids alone at night they will drag me to the cops." Rei said in panicky voice.

"Then don't let them know. Beside, do you remember how many times mom and dad fought and we woke up without anybody making us breakfast?"

Rei stunned. "Well to be exact, mom shout and dad just ignored her. But this is different.."

"No, it's not Rei. Geez.. i wish that Hideo guy's family still live next door. They can help us out."

"I'll try to go home as soon as possible okay. Just don't open the door for anyone. I texted mom, she didn't reply but I think she'll come home before I do." said Rei while hurry grab her coat and bag.

Takeshi yawning, and go up to his room. "Good Night, Rei."

Rei look up her wrist watch, hurry out and lock the door. She has double check to see if the stove is on, if the water leak and unplugged every electronic devices that might cause fire. She knows it was wrong to leaves underage children alone but she doesn't have any choice.

Her new job is not very far from home she can reach it by 20 minutes walk, but unfortunately it start really late.. because it was a club. She works to serve some drinks, and the owner is her father's friend and even though Rei is still a highschool student, he let her work there.

The club busy hours usually start after midnight. But they open around 9 to start some preparation, and also they open the bar from some workers who come after office hours.

The club name is The Night's Sun and it is in the second floor of a 3 storey building. Rei was told to go inside from the back. After climbing a steel ladder, Rei arrives at the club.

It was spacey, because all the tables and chairs are still stack aside. Some people are busy with their jobs, there are two girls cleaning the glasses and the tables. And there are two guys talking behind the bar. One of it is the manager.

"Ah, Rei. You're here." said the manager. His name is Okiwa Yuki. Rei usually called him uncle Okiwa. He is a middle age guy, wit a little belly fat and likes to wear a hawwaian shirt, sometimes in winter.

"Uncle Okiwa, i hope i'm not late."

"Hei, don't call me uncle here it makes me feel old." he said while laughing. "Just call me Okiwa-san or something. Welcome to Night Sun, Rei. Let me introduce you to the staff here. This guy is Kishiro Oda, he is my assistant here, if there is anything you need to complaint, tell him." Okiwa san pointing to a beard young guy in a green hair.

"..and this is Koshiwa Ai, she is the bartender tonight. You will delivering the drinks she make.." A short hair girl with heavy make up smile politely at Rei.

".. and last this is Megumi-chan. You and her will be waitressing here. You should ask her anything if you don't understand. Ah, Megumi-chan can you help her with the make up latter?"

"Mm.. make up?" asked Rei confused.

"Yes, that's right. We have a theme here every month. This month, since it's the beginning of summer we will be doing beach theme. So you will wear shorts and beach shirts."

"At first he wants us to wear swim suits but Ai chan and I refused. It's to cold inside an air -conditioned room at night to wear it." said Megumi-chan. She seems to be the chatty type girl.

"..in the back there are the chef and some helper. If it's to crowded at night Kishiro will help distributing the orders. I will be outside on guard."

Rei just nodding a long the way. This isn't some big club, she thought, more like a bar where if anyone is in the mood they can turn on the music really high and dance around.

"Anyhow, i just want to ask, how is Noda? Is he comes back yet?" suddenly Okiwa-san ask in a whispery voice.

"Dad? No, he hasn't come home yet.." said Rei trying to be as unemotionally as possible.

"No news, eh? That Noda is really something, eh.. ever since your mom died. I bet it isn't easy for Kaori."

Rei just smile silently.

"Oh yeah, you will do some face painting a bit, and you will wear a wig. Since you are still in school you just need to be here from 9 till midnight. I will found another girl for after midnight shift. But we usually crowded in the weekend. So at midweek like today we are more focus on setting up the bar for office employees who drink after they finished work. Okay then, lets change. Megumi will show you where and how to change."

Rei ready to leave Okiwa-san.

"Oh yes, Rei.. since you're parents are my friends.. and you seems to be in a bit tight right now.. I can give you a daily payment. You know like an allowance.. but you still needs to work hard okay, because this is my business. So learn fast and work hard today. At the end of the night you can bring some money home with you." Okiwa san smile, just like when he was back when Rei is little, Rei remembered. She take a deep breaths and brace herself for her new job.
