Episode 9

I continued walking into the forest, Rosa was restless.

"What's wrong, Rosa?"

"Somebody has been following us since yesterday."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I can smell him. In fact, it's a very nice scent. If we hadn't already found our companion, I would say it was him."

"Really? I caught a faint scent of eucalyptus, but we're surrounded by these trees."

"His scent is more woody."

"Now what? We can't continue with him following our tracks."

"Let's look for a spot to the left of the main trail and set up camp. Take the opportunity to gather some dry branches. We won't be able to hunt today."

I changed direction slightly and found a drier space between some trees. I placed the dry twigs there and surrounded them with rocks I found nearby, creating a fire. It was already dark, so I moved away from the fire, took my bow and arrow, and managed to catch a rabbit. It wasn't easy to kill, clean, and cook, but it was easier for Rose. At least I wouldn't go hungry.

I stayed there as bait until I smelled the scent Rose mentioned, approaching. I pretended not to notice and waited for him to arrive.

"Good evening!" a deep, masculine voice startled me.

I turned and looked at that huge, strong man. A werewolf, for sure, but very powerful. Much more than anyone I had ever encountered. I stared at him, hypnotized by his beauty, and didn't respond.

"What is a girl like you doing here alone?"

"Maybe it's to get rid of idiots like you!"

"Look, girl, I'm being kind to you. You have no idea of the danger, do you?"

"And you, what are you doing here alone, talking to a girl alone?" I mocked his words.

"I asked first."

"You're such an idiot, thinking you can intimidate me with your caveman act," I said, realizing I had gone too far.

"You know what? You asked for it," he asserted his dominance, making me blink, but that's all. "Who are you, girl? What are you doing around here, and why doesn't my dominance affect you?"

"Seriously? Are you going to keep going?"

He stopped with the dominance and looked intrigued.

"I know you're a wolf. Why doesn't my dominance affect you?"

"I don't know."

"Sorry, I don't want to fight with you. I know you must have a good explanation for being here alone. Can you explain it to me so I can take action?" he said, getting closer to the fire and sitting down.

I thought for a moment and let go of the annoyance. He could break me in half if he wanted.

"Sorry too, but I've been through a lot in the past few days, and I'm a bit stressed."

"Okay, that's fine. My name is Gilian. I'm the alpha supreme, and I'm here looking for my mate. And you?"

How clever, he gave me information to reciprocate. I may be young, but I know the tricks.

"Fine. My name is Mag, and I'm from the Silver Moon Pack. I've already found my mate."

"What do you mean? Where is he? I can't smell him. What happened?"

"That's exactly it. He's not here. He recognized me in front of the pack but claimed he saw me as a child and it would be best for me to leave the pack for a while and mature. That's why I'm here."

"So, he rejected you?"

"Not in those words, but the bond broke. I felt the pain, and so did my wolf."

"That's why she didn't go hunting? I see."

No, he didn't understand, but I wasn't going to say anything anymore either. I had to find a way for him to leave me alone, or I wouldn't reach my destination. It would be difficult for an Alpha male like him to leave a female alone.

"I followed a very subtle scent, hard to detect, and found you. But I can't smell your scent. Why?"

"Maybe because I'm not your mate."

"Maybe you're right. Now, I'll spend the night with you, and tomorrow, we'll go to my pack. If you're done eating, sleep."

Look at him, he decided, ordered, and didn't even ask for my opinion. Okay, Mr. Director, you're in charge, but I don't obey, and you'll find out on your own. I threw some dirt on the fire, took care of the bones, and after arranging everything with him overseeing me, I withdrew to sleep.

I grabbed my sleeping bag and placed it near a tree, as far away as possible from him. I slept for about two hours, waiting for him to fall into a deep sleep. I know that, being a good wolf, he must sleep with alertness to anything.

Since I slept far away from him, it wasn't difficult to leave that place. I put some rocks in the sleeping bag and propped it behind the tree where I lay. I let Rose out and she ran, jumping high and long, barely touching the ground.

Maybe you find it strange that I reject a Supreme as a mate, when everything indicates that we are meant to be together, but the call of the Red Blood Pack is much stronger. However, I remained hopeful, I won't deny it. Rose is all happy, but now we can't give attention to our potential mate.

When an Alpha rejects his mate and she rejects him as well, the only one who can mate with her is the Supreme Alpha. If that doesn't happen, she withers and dies within a few years. So, even if we can't acknowledge our handsome mate, we are happy to have found him.

We continued running into the night until we reached the river and crossed the waters to the other side. We followed along the side until we saw a log crossing from one bank to the other. We climbed up and crossed back over, then resumed running. I shifted back into my human form and took out a small bottle of cedar oil, rubbing the viscous liquid on my arms and neck. I let Rose out and we continued on our way.

We ran all night until we saw a field covered in tall grass. I spotted a large, tall rock and Rose jumped onto it. She looked around and through her eyes, I saw a hidden trail in the middle of the bush. She jumped, landing directly on the trail. The foliage almost covered us, but we didn't need to look ahead, only at the ground to see the trail.

We ran through the thick bush for a while until we reached the edge of a forest, where there were three red wolves.
