Episode 6

I sat on the trunk of a fallen tree, under the moonlight, with the trees as witnesses, and he began to tell.

"When I was younger, I decided that I wanted to know other categories of wolves, and that's how I became a wanderer. I visited various categories of wolves, met the Supreme and reached the Red Blood Pack. I was amazed by everything I saw. They were indigenous werewolves with red skin. Their different features fascinated me. That's where I found my companion, your mother."

"Why were we never told this?" I asked, filled with questions in my head, especially about my mother.

"After a few days there, I understood that only people chosen by the universe would arrive there. Destined for an important role among the reds. The matriarch, your grandmother, rules everything with an iron fist. They have tried to invade the place because of the minerals in the subsoil. But your grandmother trained and still trains the red wolves very well."

"Why was I born like this, father?"

"Because that's what the universe wanted. You are the chosen one to reign over your people, my dear, you are very special. Red wolves are the most different from our race. They have the strongest blood, which oxygenates their bodies better, granting them great resistance in any situation. Only that way can they survive in such an inhospitable place like Alaska."

"Alaska is very cold, surviving there must be difficult."

"Besides that, they live in a region with rocky mountains and in the summer, they face dangerous predators like bears and panthers."

There is a legend about a queen who will unite the Northern Packs with the Southern Packs. But your grandmother is the one who can tell you that story.

"I understand, so I'm not different or weird, I'm part of a special people."

"Special and ancient, my daughter. I'm very proud of you, and that's why I trained you all these years. Tomorrow I will arrange for you to meet your grandmother."

"Do you think David will want to come too?"

"No, your brother would never do well in an endeavor like this. Your mother deludes herself with him. But he is in college and will graduate as a history teacher, that will be his role in the Pack. I always knew he wasn't born to be a warrior."

"What do you think will happen with the Alpha? Will he really reject me?"

"I'm afraid so, daughter. He has had a girlfriend for two years, he says he loves her. I don't know if he'll change his mind, since he told you to stay away from him instead of wanting to get to know you better."

"Yes. I felt the pain of the bond breaking, father."

"Oh, dear, I'm so sorry," he said, embracing me tightly.

"I think we should go home now, or else mom will make a scene, but before that, I wanted to know why you didn't participate in my transformation."

"That's not a good subject to discuss, and the Alpha father asked us to keep it a secret."

"So serious?" He nodded.

"Yes, let's go, my dear. Tomorrow I will prepare your trip and let your grandmother know."

Narrator

The subject that Leonel didn't want to talk about were the events taking place near the border with the neighboring Pack, which were a real disrespect to the females and the werewolf species. The young females had been abused and injured to the point of not surviving.

Some time ago, they encountered animals with cruel characteristics that led to their deaths, with no purpose other than killing them. But in the past two weeks, the attacks had escalated in violence and focused on the females. Leonel went with his companion to investigate and concluded that the wounds were caused by a very cruel and uncontrollable werewolf.

That's why Mag's mother was so emotional and slightly unhinged, unable to overcome the sight of those dismembered bodies. She needed that moment of relaxation at the party to escape the horrors she had witnessed. Perhaps her escape from those memories could be seen as weakness, but it was her way of coping with the pain.

Mag

The next day, my father sent me to the mall, to a specific store, to buy winter clothes. He said he had already ordered everything, and I just needed to try them on.

While walking through the streets, I saw people looking at me and whispering, probably about the Alpha's strange decision. Now they saw me as nothing more than a child. I couldn't care less, I'm too young to deal with an Alpha and his mistress.

Speaking of which, the first person I see at the mall is the mistress herself. I pretend not to see her and head towards the store my father recommended.

"Mag, Mag, wait."

Oh my stars, give me patience. I turned towards the screechy voice, putting on a resigned face.

"What is it, girl? Why are you yelling at me?"

"Just wanted to let you know that Jonjon is mine and you shouldn't believe that he'll accept you, because you'll end up getting hurt." How sweet, she's giving me a warning to protect me from heartbreak.

"Wow! You're so kind, aren't you? But I'm also kind, dear. You can have him all to yourself. Goodbye, I have better things to do."

I left her talking to herself, as I caught a whiff of his scent nearby and wanted to avoid him at all costs. I went to the store, tried on some beautiful and warm fur clothes. After selecting them, I left it to them for delivery. I left the store feeling absent-minded and bumped into someone who caught me before I could fall.

Jonathan.

I was at the mall with Deborah when I smelled that familiar perfume. My mate. I looked around and saw her talking to Deborah, it couldn't be anything good since she turned and hurried away. I went to see what had happened.

"What happened, Deborah?" I asked and she seemed scared.

"That stubborn girl left me talking to myself," she complained, with that annoying little voice of hers.

"She's just like that, but what did you say to her?" I wanted to know if she had upset my mate.

"Oh, just the truth, only the truth," she said, feigning innocence.

"What truth, Deborah?" I asked, showing my annoyance.

"That you're mine and only mine."

Ever since I recognized my mate yesterday, I started finding Deborah a bit annoying. Everything about her started to irritate me. That high-pitched and whiny voice, the fake facial expressions, the shallowness of constantly wanting to shop, it's all bothering me too much. Was she like this before and I just never noticed?

I left Deborah at the store she wanted to go to and went searching for Mag. I found her in a store for cold weather clothes. I spent a while observing her confidence in dealing with the salespeople. When she finished and left the store, I approached her and we collided, I held onto her arms to prevent her from falling. I pulled her body towards mine and without wasting time, I claimed her lips.

Her lips were soft and sweet, but suddenly, I tasted blood. She bit me.

"Why did you do that, Jon? You rejected me yesterday, remember?"

"It was just a goodbye kiss for you to remember me and I didn't reject you, I just needed some time. Now, come here."

I pulled her towards me and kissed her again, savoring her lips and intertwining my tongue with hers. It was good, so good, especially when she responded.
