Episode 3

Chapter Three

After finding a car, two young men helped me onto it and took me to the hospital. At the hospital, my wounds were treated and checked. There was no broken glass in my head, and I was given a tetanus shot. I was quite annoyed. My head was wrapped in a piece of gauze that looked like a mourning hat. It made me feel really angry.

As I walked out of the emergency room, besides the two service staff, I saw a girl standing outside. She had a slender figure, medium-length hair, and a pretty face. She was wearing a simple, tight-fitting long-sleeved sweater and a pair of jeans. She had a refreshing and beautiful look, with a highly coordinated body proportion. Her long legs, tightly wrapped in jeans, were curved in all the right places, exuding youthful vitality.

I recognized her. She was the little service staff who had caused tonight's incident, the girl named Xiao Di. Although I was quite angry with her for getting me into a fight tonight, I realized that it was not entirely her fault, so I did not show any hostility towards her.

"Manager Chen..." The little girl appeared anxious and shy as she stepped towards me cautiously. "I'm sorry, tonight was all my fault."

I waved my hand, "What are you doing here?"

"I came here to thank you. If it wasn't for you tonight..." The girl lowered her head, her long hair covering half of her face. Her slender eyes flashed under her eyelashes. She was indeed a beautiful woman, no wonder that drunkard had insisted on her company.

"Alright, it's none of your business! You work in the company, and the company will cover for you! Don't call me the manager anymore, just call me Wu Ge like everyone else." I looked at her blushing cheeks and her lowered head, feeling a wave of emotion surging within me. A wicked thought occurred to me: if this girl were to start working in the sex industry, she would definitely be a hit!

However, I quickly realized that this wicked thought was sacrilegious towards the innocent girl and forced myself to erase the impure thoughts from my mind. Two henchmen came up: "Wu Ge, how are you feeling?"

I shook my head, "I'm fine. You guys can go back. I'm not going to the company tonight. I'm going home to get some sleep. Go find Ah Qiang and let him take care of everything. Leave him alone."

One of the guys tried to please me, "Wu Ge, why don't we give you a ride home? It's not safe at night."

I pretended to kick him and jokingly scolded, "What's there to ride? I'm not a girl. Is there anything that's worth riding for me? You guys go back quickly."

Di suddenly spoke up in a low voice, "I...I'll take you home, Wu Ge."

I looked at her, and she immediately blushed and didn't dare to look me in the eye, as if she were frightened. She quickly continued, "Wu Ge, you stood up for me tonight. I'll take you home, or I won't feel good about myself." She twisted her clothes with both hands, looking a little flustered.

The guy next to her wanted to say something but was lightly kicked by his companion and immediately realized his mistake. Both of them had an ambiguous expression on their faces.

I could tell from the looks on their faces exactly what kind of filthy thoughts those two guys were having, but I didn't want to waste my breath on them. I waved them off and the girl cautiously walked over to me, taking hold of my arm and leading me away. As we walked, I caught a whiff of her subtle fragrance - not perfume, more like the light, clean scent of soap on her clothes. When was the last time I had met such a innocent girl? I chuckled at myself - my workplace had been devoid of purity for centuries. In recent years, even the once naive girls who joined our business had become little seductresses after just a few months. They started off blushing at every word and ended up tempting men with just a look in their eyes. After a few steps, I suddenly felt the urge to tease her a little. "Are you afraid of me?" I asked. "No! No, of course not!" she shook her head in a hurry. "Everyone says you're a good person, and you always take care of us. Whenever something happens, you're willing to stand up for us. I heard that there are four managers in the company, and you are the best!" A good person, huh? I shook my head. A good person? Ha... how could someone like me, in my line of work, have anything to do with being a good person? I just knew how hard it was for the people below me because I had started at the bottom myself. That's why I tried to be kind to them and considerate of them as much as possible.

As I arrived at the hospital entrance, a van was heading towards me. Several people jumped out and ran into the hospital. They didn't seem like decent people, some with shaved heads, others with dyed hair, and two even had tattoos on their necks, clearly thugs.

Initially, I didn't pay much attention to them. However, these guys went straight to the lobby and pulled out a few people from one of the rooms. To my amazement, these were the same three guys I had just beaten up earlier!

Damn! What a coincidence! These three thugs also came to the hospital to receive treatment.

It's not surprising since this is the hospital closest to the nightclub. When someone is injured, they naturally choose the closest hospital for treatment.

However, the coincidence was not in my favour. One of the thugs noticed me from afar, and my heart sank. I knew my situation. Normally, I wouldn't care about these guys, but with my head wrapped in bandages and feeling dizzy, my fighting strength had clearly dropped several levels. Not to mention, I only had a young girl by my side. If only I hadn't let those two boys go earlier.

"F***! Stop that man and woman!" The guy who saw me shouted.

I panicked and grabbed Little Di's arm, shouting, "Run, quick!"

She also saw the man and recognised him, turning pale with fright. I pulled her along and bolted for the exit.

The few guys behind hadn't figured it out yet. The person who saw me shouted again, "That guy is the one who hit me!" Now, five or six people suddenly woke up and rushed towards me. Some of them even drew knives or other weapons from their pockets. I had no time to think as my head was spinning, so I grabbed the girl and ran recklessly. However, with my injuries and drunkenness, my legs felt weak. The girl wasn't fast either. The people behind us were getting closer. Suddenly, I grabbed a bicycle from the roadside and pushed it back, using its momentum to slow them down. Looking up, I saw a taxi parked on the roadside ahead. Without hesitation, I summoned all my strength and ran towards the taxi. I stuffed the girl in first, and then I jumped in and shouted, "Drive! Fast!" The taxi driver was shocked. Seeing my head wrapped in bandages and several fierce-looking guys chasing us, he hesitated. I shouted again, "If you don't drive, they will smash your car!" This sentence worked, the driver hit the gas pedal and took off immediately. I finally breathed a sigh of relief as the yelling behind us faded away. I said, "Thank you" to the driver and suddenly realized that I was lying on the girl's lap the whole time.

Just a moment ago, the two of us rushed into the car in a hurry, and now I’m lying on top of the girl at the back seat. Her body is half-laying with her face up, and my legs are pressing against hers, while my head is almost buried in her plump chest. At this moment, her face turned red, as if she is trying hard to restrain herself from talking. Her face is filled with shyness, and her watery eyes avoid making any eye contact with me.

The air seems to have frozen for a while, and I can smell the fragrance of the girl all over my nose. At such a beautiful moment, I can hardly control my chaotic thoughts. Her eyes are filled with anxiety, but mostly shyness. Finally, she bit her lip gently and whispered in a low voice, almost inaudibly: "Big Brother Wu... Can you, can you please move away?”

I coughed and immediately sat upright. Being extra careful not to touch her again. I admit that I am not a good man. I work in nightclubs, and when it comes to women, I am definitely not a gentleman. However, I respect this pure girl in my heart.

Perhaps it is because I have seen too much dirty stuff that I appreciate this rare purity in modern society.

I can tell that this girl's eyes are very clean. It’s not a deliberate pretense of innocence, but a true clarity.

"You're Xiaodi, right?" I sat up straight, deliberately concealing my embarrassment, and smiled: "How long have you been working at the company?"

"Wu Ge, my surname is Yan, and my name is Yan Di. Today is my third day of work." Yan Di's expression on her face was either shy or uncertain as she sat carefully next to me. She hesitated for a moment before coming closer to me and helping me fix the gauze on my head, which had become slightly dislodged during our rush to escape earlier.

As she tugged at the gauze, the wound on my head throbbed and burned, causing her to pull back her hand and look at me with timid concern. "Did I hurt you?" she asked.

I shook my head. "No, it's fine."

It was then that I realized I had forgotten to tell the driver our destination. After some hesitation, I asked Yan Di, "Where do you live? Let me take you home first."

"No need," the girl shook her head, her voice soft but resolute.

My place was on a small street in the southern part of the city, in an old and infamous area known for its complex environment, meaning that its security was less than ideal. This area was home to all the low-end hair salons, small massage parlors, and various street vendors. Even at two or three in the morning, one could see all sorts of villains and hooligans roaming around. Fights would often break out on the street over trivial matters, even in the middle of the night.

The biggest reason why I chose to live here was that the rent was cheap.

My place was on the third floor of an old building, and before we headed up, Yan Di suddenly grabbed my arm and pulled me into a small convenience store next door to buy two anti-inflammatory pills. I had forgotten to pick them up at the hospital.

Afterwards, she helped me up the stairs. In the dark and gloomy hallway, I could feel the girl struggling to support me. She seemed a bit tired, panting softly, but she tried to suppress it so I wouldn't hear. The palm of her hand was slightly damp with sweat.

I don't know why, but it seemed like something soft inside of me was gently touched, and I suddenly felt moved. I couldn't remember the last time someone had taken care of me so thoughtfully. It seemed like I had only experienced this kind of warmth when I was with my master.

Lost in my thoughts, I unconsciously leaned towards her, as if I was reluctant to let go. The girl didn't notice and assumed that I was just weak from my injuries. She continued to help me climb the stairs step by step.

"5th Brother, why did you stand up for me tonight?" In the darkness, it seemed like a pair of shining eyes were staring at me.

I took a deep breath, turned my head, and avoided the gaze. After hesitating for a moment, I tried to speak in a calm tone, "You're different from those other girls who work in the entertainment business. They are just hanging around looking for random clientele, but you work for the company and are paid a salary. I need to look after you."

After a moment of silence, I heard a gentle voice say, "Little 5th Brother, thank you. I know you're a good person. I heard from them that if it was any other supervisor, they would have thrown me out and not sacrificed customer satisfaction for the sake of a server."

I remained silent, almost instinctively not daring to accept that pure sense of gratitude.

"You're wrong, I'm not a good person," I replied sullenly.

"Hmph, am I worthy of a good person..."
