"Is that so? I hope for the same, so that we can be one family," said Mama Eko.
"Truly, what a pity," said Lena, nodding. Charzo stood not far from the living room, hidden from view.
"Hm... what if..."
Their conversation faded as they began whispering and soon erupted into laughter.
"What are they saying?" Charzo furrowed his eyebrows in curiosity.
"Just a moment, let me summon Clara," said Lena, rising to walk to Clara's room.
Clara's family seemed content, their faces marked with smiles.
"Mother, I need to speak with you," whispered Eko to his mother.
"Excuse us, we need to step out for a moment to discuss something," said Mama Eko.
"Of course, Auntie," nodded Carry. Eko and his mother exited the house and distanced themselves a bit.
"Mother! Why on earth would you want to match me with a married woman? I can find a girl on my own," Eko protested indignantly.
"Hey! If you marry into Lena's family, at least we could secure some of their wealth, and you'd be an heir to Harry's business. Even if it's modest, that could be your stepping stone for gaining experience and eventually working for a big company. You could have any woman you desire afterward," his mother argued.
"But she's married now. How can I marry a married woman?" Eko's face was etched with dissent.
"Obviously, you won't marry her while she's married. I'll prompt Lena to ensure Clara divorces her husband as quickly as possible. Sooner is better," smirked Mama Eko slyly.
"So, I'm to marry a divorcee?" Eko's eyebrows creased.
"Enough! It's the best decision for you. Let's go back inside," his mother urged.
They re-entered and settled on the couch.
"Mother, what's all this about?" asked Clara.
"Shhhh! Be quiet," Lena hushed her.
"You've met before, haven't you? It's a shame Eko went to school out of town, and you couldn't meet again," said Mama Eko, whose name was Eli.
"Yes, Auntie, so I hardly remember his face," Clara attempted a smile.
"So, what do you think? Do you like Eko?" inquired Eli.
Clara frowned, puzzled by Eli's words.
"Um... what do you mean, Auntie?" Clara queried.
"Just say you like him," Carin whispered. Lena peered at Clara, urging her with wide eyes.
"Yes," Clara nodded, looking down.
Charzo was silent. He headed to his room, feeling drained.
"Clara, if you still regard me as your husband, don't do what you aren't supposed to," Charzo laid on the bed, gazing at the ceiling.

The bedroom door opened, and there was Clara with a troubled expression entering the room.
"Darling, why the long face?" Charzo embraced Clara.
"It's nothing; I'm sorry we can't go out tonight, I'm tired and just want to rest," Clara pulled the blanket over herself and closed her eyes.
Charzo looked at his wife's face, knowing that Clara was pretending to sleep.
"Well then, have a good rest. I'm going out briefly to buy something," said Charzo. He then exited through the bedroom window and left.
Clara rose and watched from the window as Charzo walked away into the distance.
