"On a night like this?" Clara asked, her eyebrows furrowed in wonder.
"When else shall we do it? The pool's needed for use tomorrow!" Lena retorted, eyes wide with insistence.
"It could be cleaned tomorrow, Mother," Clara defended her husband.
"My friends are coming over tomorrow, but who knows at what time; it could be morning, afternoon, or night. How am I to know? That's why it must be cleaned tonight. I refuse to have them see a dirty pool. Now go and clean it!" Lena commanded sternly.
"It's okay, you rest. I'll go clean it," Charzo said with a smile, reassuring Clara before sidestepping his mother-in-law and making his way to the pool by the side of the house.
"Mother, why do you treat him that way? What if he falls ill?" Clara's expression carried a hint of resentment.
"Who cares about him! And you as well! There are so many men with jobs in this world, why on earth did you choose him? Look at Carin and Carry; their husbands wear clean office suits and sit in air-conditioned offices daily. And your husband? Without your work, you might not even eat. I can't fathom what's so appealing about that trash!" Lena berated.
"Enough, Mother, I'm going to rest," Clara said, closing the door even as her mother stood just beyond the threshold.
"You ungrateful child! Just wait, you'll surely regret marrying that useless man! You'll come to ask for a divorce one day!" Lena huffed angrily, storming away from Clara's room.
"Alright then, I'll drain it. But of course, I must repay my kind-hearted mother-in-law," Charzo muttered to himself.
With the speed he possessed, Charzo was able to quickly clean the spacious 3x3 meter pool.
After the cleaning, Charzo filled the pool back up with water, and while waiting for it to fill, he went off to catch a froglet and kept it aside.
"Heh-heh-heh, this should be enough. Tomorrow I'll make my move," Charzo grinned mischievously.
Returning to the pool, Charzo waited patiently for it to fill completely.
"Why is this taking so long! What are you doing!" Lena snapped impatiently.
"What can I do, Mother-in-law? The pool is vast, and the hose is not adequate. It can't be done any faster. You can't blame me like this; it's always been this way after all," Charzo replied lightly.
"Just excuses!" Lena huffed in frustration, retreating to her room.
"Heh-heh-heh, Mother-in-law, you're in for a wait," Charzo chuckled softly.
Charzo then went back into his room and saw Clara trying on the dress he had bought her earlier.
"Do you like it?" he asked.
"I love it, thank you. It's been so long since I've received a gift from you," Clara admired her reflection in the mirror.
"Next time I'll buy you something even better, though I don't know when. But I promise to fulfill it," Charzo promised, hugging Clara from behind.
"But... where did you get the money for this dress? You don't work, do you?" Clara asked, turning to face him.
"Hm... oh, that. I was given some money by a lady because I caught a thief, and remembering you and wanting to give you a gift, I thought to buy this dress. I'm glad you like it," Charzo smiled warmly.
