Episode 16

Throughout the rest of the day, my sister and I checked on the soldiers' health, and I tried to teach her about the reading I was doing. My sister didn't understand much, she thinks I'm a genius, but if she knew it took me years to learn this technique, she would mock me.

That night, after dinner with the family, I went to the greenhouse, and this time my sister kept me company.

"Tell me, why didn't you tell us what was happening before?" she asked.

"I was immature and believed that woman's nonsense," I replied.

"Next time, trust your family more, brat," she said.

"Oh, it almost seems like you care about me," I teased.

"Idiot, just a little, don't overdo it... What are you preparing?" she inquired.

"Medicine for two friends, as we will be traveling through the duchy for four weeks, I will leave them the treatment for that time," I answered.

"Can I know who these friends are?" she pressed.

"Someday I will tell you," I evaded.

"I heard father arranged the engagement, with that idiot..." she mentioned.

"Yeah, I turned it down," I confirmed.

"Think about it, there are better men..." she suggested, astonished when I reaffirmed my rejection.

"You grew up so fast, I always thought you would lead us to our death," she remarked.

I laughed, knowing that I had led them and how I regretted it.

The next day, after some training, I dressed as a palace maiden. It was very early, and no one had awakened yet in the duchy.

Arriving at the palace very early, I encountered the same soldiers as last time. I greeted them warmly and showed them my insignia, both pleased that I hadn't forgotten it this time.

They seemed like decent men. After chatting for a while, I went in search of Lila. I knocked on her door, and a few seconds later, she opened it.

"It's you," she said.

"If you were going to greet me like that, I wouldn't have come," I joked.

"Come in, my sister is much better now, thanks to you," she said gratefully.

I sat beside the girl's bed and asked, "Did the medicine I left work quickly?"

"Yes, it worked right away," she confirmed.

"Good, I will leave this for you to take for a week. When I return, I will come to check on you," I informed her.

"What's in it?" she asked.

"It's just a flu, but if it's not cured properly... you wouldn't want to know," I warned.

During times like these, a flu could be fatal, not to mention if it worsens. I said my goodbyes and asked Lila where the Emperor was. Since it was still early, he was still in his room.

I made my way to the Emperor's room, and there was no one at the entrance. I tried to open the door, but a hand stopped me. When I turned, it was Gabriel.

"God, man, you almost scared me," I exclaimed.

He chuckled and said, "I didn't recognize you, you're well disguised. But I'm sorry to say that no one can enter while he's sleeping."

"Okay, pretend I'm no one. I came with medicine," I replied.

Skeptical, he let me in. Before entering, I jokingly said to him, "Don't worry, worst-case scenario, I'll keep you company at the guillotine."

I entered the room, which was just as I had seen it last time. I left the basket of medicine on a table and walked over to the bed where the Emperor lay, looking so relaxed. I felt a hand grab my arm and pull me onto the bed, with that sexy man now on top of me.

"Does his majesty like to be naughty in the morning?" I teased.

"You're like a little kitten, elusive and with multiple lives, as you tempt death," he replied.

"I don't know if it's death... or his majesty," I hinted playfully.

"Are you taking advantage of the fact that I can't do anything to you?" he asked.

"Emperor, you have such a narrow imagination," I laughed.

He chuckled and sat up on the bed, asking, "Why did I have the pleasure of your visit so early?"

I lay on the bed face down, propping myself up on my elbows with my face in my hands, and asked, "Didn't you miss me?"

"It seems like you did," he remarked.

"I have to inspect my patient firsthand. Give me your wrist," I said, reaching out my hand to him.

"Is that how you inspect the soldiers you save as well?" he inquired.

"In their bed, no... Are you jealous?" I teased.

"Why should I be?" he asked.

"Because I'm sure you already have someone watching me in my own duchy, since you found out that I saved the boy who almost killed my sister."

When I finished seeing how his body reacted to the first dose, I relaxed on the bed and told him what happened.

"I never expected that, you and your sister are unique...."

"I know-"

As he lies down next to me, both of us staring at the ceiling, he looks relaxed and comfortable with me.

"Have you already removed all the people who bothered you from your house?"

"Is there anything you don't know?"

"Yes, what did you answer to your father?"

"Do you want to know if I'm going to get engaged to your nephew?"

"Mmm..."
