Chapter 1(part 1)

"Do you really love me?" he asked her with hope in his eyes. it was a really dumb question since they had already been together for almost two years. There was something just not right about her. He noticed but decided to ignore it. Instead he jumped into the conclusion that it was just a fragment of his imagination. Or was it?

"What kind of question is that? Of course I do," she answered reassuringly with a warm smile that gave him comfort, yet she hid a sharp edges knife behind her back. She walked towards him slowly. He thought that she was going to kiss him but he was wrong. She had other sinister plans. Still he didn't suspect a thing.

"Do you really think she'll wake up ? It's been so long since she's opened her eyes. I say , we call the morgue and make the preparations. Don't you think? " asked the doctor with hopelessness in his voice.

"Of course not Sir. The morgue should be the last thing to think about at this point. I mean even though she's still in a comma the machine says her heartbeat is fine. So then why wouldn't she be?" she gave him time to digest her words, "You know doctor Isaac the Bible says...

He had stopped listening. Of course she didn't expect him to anyway. He was an atheist, and everyone knows that atheists argue with all things religious. it was like trying to convince a child to pick broccoli over ice cream. Just simply impossible unless witchcraft is involved.

He hated her , nurse Betty, a rookie at the hospital. When she first arrived, she was a quiet and calm person, but after staying for a week or so, she made friends with everyone from the doctors to the workers. All referred to as "mother Mary" because she was religious and kind (especially the little children) but her had hated her because she had always used every opportunity she got to preach to him. So at that moment, he lamented the manager for making him her mentor. What a bore it was to him

He stood closer to the bed to have a closer look at the patient. Her skin was healthier than it was the month before. it used to be pale white like that of a vampire but now it was back to the pale yellow color. That , he assumed, was because her records said her mother was Chinese and her father Spanish . What a weird combination.Her body was thin and fragile. Food was administered to her through pipes that were inserted into her body through a machine. Her long black silky hair was no longer as shiny as it was the first time he saw her. However, she smelled of roses. Most probably because the nurse gave her a towel bath everyday. She was lucky to have a boyfriend rich enough to book for her the best room and services in the entire hospital.

His thoughts were interrupted by the Canadian aceent of nurse Betty.

"Um sir , we've got to go. It's almost visiting hours."

"Damn that religious witch," he was meant to say but didn't since cursing was not his style.

Before he could take his eyes off the girl, something surprising happened, she moved. Not only did she move but she also shot her eyes wide open, revealing a pair of the most beautiful crystal blue eyes he had ever seen before.

"Oh my!" those were the only words that could come out of his mouth.

Both him and nurse Betty gave each other a look of disbelief.
