Episode 20

Leo: Valerie, as far as I know, that girl is quite the character, yet exceedingly brave. I'm grateful she saved your life and came up with the marriage alliance idea.

Daian looks into Leo's eyes, seeing sincerity that gives her hope for a true marriage. Leo had sworn his faithfulness and devotion, and with each passing day, she falls deeper in love with her husband.

Time moves on, and the queen's mood wreaks havoc with her not knowing the whereabouts of her youngest son.

German watches everything closely and can only laugh at the situation; he's never seen his mother so angry.

Meanwhile, at the cabin by the lake.

Valery: Love, we have to return.

Tomas: Why?

Valery: The time has come to face reality and our families.

Tomas: Alright, let's go.

Tomas isn't keen on returning; he's content in the cabin with his wife. Valery dons her armor and mounts her horse. Tomas does the same, and on their journey, they decide first to visit General Roberson's house to talk to him.

Upon arrival at the house.

Lucas has an unfriendly expression: Daughter, where have you been?

Valery: Dad, I...I...

Tomas: General, it was my idea. Valerie was hesitant, but I insisted, and finally convinced her.

Lucas: What do you mean?

Valery looks at Tomas, sighs before revealing: Tomas and I have secretly married.

Lucas: Are you out of your mind? He's a prince!

Valery: Dad, I love him.

Her brothers appear, hearing the conversation.

Jaiden: Are you certain?

Dickson: You can't have regrets.

Valery: Yes, I am.

The twins exchange a look and with a smile say: Welcome, brother-in-law. My condolences.

Jaiden: May God have mercy on your soul.

Valery: Ha ha, very funny.

Greta hears them: My girl is all grown up.

She approaches and embraces them warmly.

Lucas: You're on probation, and if you harm a single hair on her, I don't care that you're the king's son.

Tomas: Yes sir.

Dickson: Dad, are you sure he'll even get close enough to touch Valery's hair? I'd say our brother-in-law has a problem there.

Tomas looks around the house, feels a chill; everyone is a formidable warrior, but he won't be intimidated by any.

Carlos arrives with a message from the king.

Carlos: Hey Demon, we've got work to do.

Valery: Hi Carlos, yes, I'm coming. Tomas, excuse me, I have something to deal with.

Tomas: That's okay, we'll talk to my parents later.

With Valery off with Carlos, Tomas's reaction doesn't go unnoticed by Greta.

Greta: They grew up together; they're like siblings.

Tomas grimaces as if he understands; now he must return to the palace alone. His plan was to go with Valery, but she has other tasks, and he can't accompany her.

Jaiden: Get used to it. My sister is no submissive woman, and nothing about her will be like the society ladies you're used to.

Dickson: Valery doesn't tend to home tasks. At most, she hunts and you might eat what's cooked over a fire.

Tomas: I'm not worried about that. Her safety, yes.

Lucas: Come, let's talk inside.

Lucas sees concern in Tomas's eyes, something they share since he knows his daughter is an outstanding soldier, the best, but she's been wounded before, nearly dying when she faced General Vigo Mortens on the battlefield. He was badly injured too, but his daughter, his little girl, almost lost her life from her injuries.

Arriving at the military camp, they go straight to their troops, and there's the messenger. They must escort Prince Octavio and General Vigo Mortens back to the border. So again, with their masks on, they set out for the palace.

Outside, on their horses, 15 shadow warriors wait for the two they will escort.

Octavio bids his sister farewell, and approaching Renata.

Octavio: Little puppet, I hope you heed my advice.

Renata glares at him, resenting the nickname: Who does he think he is to call me that!

She storms off as Octavio watches with a smile playing on his lips.

At the palace gates, the king and queen wait, the queen scrutinizing the masked soldiers.

Merida: It's disrespectful to hide their faces.

Leonardo: Dear, these are no ordinary soldiers. Their identities must remain anonymous.

As the queen goes to speak again, they're interrupted.

Octavio: Thank you for everything, Your Majesty. I'll speak with my father; my sister is in good hands.

Leonardo: Prince Octavio, I hope your return north is peaceful.

Octavio: We shall see, Your Majesty.

As Tomas arrives, Octavio adds.

Octavio: Your Majesty, my offer still stands. General Roberson’s daughter is an excellent match.

The queen grimaces and retreats with her maidens.

Leonardo: I'll keep it in mind, Prince.

After the exchange, Octavio mounts his horse and departs with his general. Passing by Tomas...

Octavio: If I hear you're not caring for and protecting her, I won't hesitate to take her away.

The eyes of Tomas and Octavio meet, reflecting a mutual challenge.

Octavio moves on, joined by the 15 soldiers. Tomas captures a glimpse of beautiful eyes behind the mask of his lovely Valery.

She avoids his gaze and continues with her companions. Tomas watches her go, his concerns genuine, wondering how to protect her.

Leonardo watches his son closely: She's a one-of-a-kind woman.

Tomas to his father: That's what drew me to her, Father, but I worry for her safety.

Leonardo: Come, son, let's talk.

Tomas dismounts and joins his father, walking to a beautiful garden, the king's sanctuary, accessible only to him and his gardener.

Tomas: I've never been in your garden.

Leonardo: You are the first, only my gardener and I enter. Son, Valery is much like her mother – her beauty, intelligence, resilience – all is unique from the rest. If you truly love her, you must guard her from these high-society hypocrites. Her father stays away. That old fox Lucas is astute and his children, Valery included, are just like him.

My daughter-in-law is very stubborn...

Leonardo's face lights up with a smile at his son's confused look.

Tomas: Ho...how do you know?

Leonardo: I am the king, son. Nothing stays hidden from me.

Tomas: Father, I...

Leonardo: Say no more. I've seen that two of my children have chosen well. Daian, in her own way, is another unique woman. Your brother had the chance to decline the marriage but chose not to.

I've noticed the young lady; she wields no swords but is adept at politics and will counsel your brother wisely.

And you, with Valery, truly an issue in herself, I don't know whether to congratulate or commiserate. You've got your work cut out for you, with Lucas as a protective father.
