Dawn

5,000 Years Later. . .

"And... Ta-da," a twelve-year-old girl with short curly black hair, deep blue eyes and tiny freckles on her cheeks states as she puts little cat candies into four cups. Behind her is an older man, with greyish-blue hair and purple eyes, putting biscuits on the plates.

"Ready Dawn?" the man asks with a small smile that could be mistaken for evil.

"Of course, dad, I can't wait for them to try my delicious tea," Dawn says as she picks up the trays skipping behind her father.

"Ah, you guys finished, I can't wait to see how it turned out," a lady with dirty blonde hair and deep blue eyes said, smiling widely at the two.

"It looks like it was poisoned if you ask me," a sixteen-year-old boy with purple eyes and dirty blonde hair adds, turning in the opposite direction pinching his nose. “And it stinks.”

"Makoto don't be so rude, your father and sister put a lot of work into this," the lady chastised her son.

"If Dawn did it, it’s bound to have something wrong with it."

"Mizu, do you want honey on your biscuit?" the father asks before Dawn could respond to her brother not wanting to hear their arguing.

"Honey is fine dear," Mizu says with a weird emphasis on the term dear, which neither of the kids seem to notice due to their fighting. Hakai does however and grips the honey as he scowls causing wrinkles to appear on his forehead. He slowly breathes in and out to calm himself down and hands over the container to Mizu. The family then begins to enjoy their "Tea Party" as Dawn likes to call it.

A few seconds after drinking her tea, Mizu starts to choke. Blood starts coming out with each aching cough, which alerts the rest of the family.

"Huh, mom are you okay?" Dawn asks, worried, jumping up and running over to her mother. Mizu tries to respond but falls on her side as the rest of the family freaks out. Makoto tries to keep their mom alive telling Dawn to get out of the way while Hakai worriedly calls the ambulance.

"Damn it, Dawn, move out the way, YOU ARE NOT HELPING!" Makoto yells as Dawn lets out a yelp and hesitantly moves back while shaking.

After what felt like hours, the ambulance arrived to take Mizu away along with the rest of the family. As soon as they arrive, they rush Mizu to an emergency room leaving the rest of the family outside the door.

"Dad, will mom be, ok?" Dawn pleads.

"Yea, I'm sure she'll be fine," Hakai confirms with another small smile. He then ignores any of Dawn's further questions rolling his eyes, as Makoto slowly paces back and forth. A few hours later the doctor comes out with a saddened look noticed by everyone except Dawn who was still hopeful. They walked up to the doctor with Hakai in front and his children behind him.

"Mr. Hamasaki," the doctor calls out.

"Doctor is everything alright?" Hakai asks crossing his arms with Makoto and Dawn peeking from behind as if the doctor would attack them.

"I'm sorry Mr. Hamasaki but, we weren't able to save her," the doctor tried to whisper to Hakai. Dawn listening intently heard everything that was said.

"WHAT!" Dawn screamed.

"Calm down Dawn, I'm sure this is just a misunderstanding," Hakai says trying to calm down his children. "Makoto, watch over your sister while I speak to the doctor," he says asking the doctor to speak in private. “And no fighting!” he warned.

"Ok father," Makoto said as he begrudgingly took Dawn over to the chairs. "What did you put in that tea," he asks trying to hide his anger, but his eyes were saying it all.

"Nothing out of the ordinary, just the tea bag, water, and sugar, wait... you don't think I poisoned mom... right?" Dawn asked finally connecting the dots as she started to tear up.

"Well, who else could have done it, not only that she only started choking when she drunk your nasty tea. I knew it would be bad if they had another child, but they wouldn’t listen and now look, their ungrateful daughter goes and murders MY mother," Makoto said angrily as he was getting louder. This caused people to look over in their direction.

"You don't mean that right? I didn't do anything," Dawn said as tears started to fall from her eyes. All the nosy people looking over hurriedly turned away when Makoto glared at them slightly freezing the floor beneath him.

About thirteen minutes after the incident, Hakai and the doctor came out from the emergency room. As Hakai walked up to his children, he took note that Dawn looked like she was crying but chalked it up to her being scared since if he was being honest with himself, he didn’t really care.

"Father? Mom's ok right? Why are you looking like that?" Dawn bombarded her father with questions wiping her eyes.

"SHUT UP! Why can’t you be quiet for once? I already have to deal with your mom’s death and now you. Why couldn’t you have drunk the tea instead?” Hakai yelled, and immediately covered his mouth.

Makoto immediately starts tearing up, blocking out the rest of what his father said. He then glared at Dawn, who jumped back scared and surprised. She starts to cry as she walks back to a corner of the room. The doctor with a surprised face, whispers something to the father, and walks away. Hakai then takes the two to see their mom one last time.

As they were about to leave, Dawn sat back down near her mom. Makoto was about to grab her muttering the words 'we can't leave the victim with her murderer.'

"Makoto don't say such things about your sister," Hakai said dragging Makoto out of the room, seemingly calmed down from earlier.

"Mom, I'm so sorry if I poisoned you, I didn't mean to I promise," Dawn pleaded to the corpse on the bed.

"Don't worry dear, you did no such thing," a voice said.

"Huh, where is that coming from," Dawn said thinking she was going crazy.

"Right here, geez did you really think I wouldn't know if something was poisoned," they continued. “I drunk it to teach someone a lesson, although I am sorry it was put into the tea you made,” Mizu finished.

'Mom, but I thought she was gone,' Dawn thought thinking looking around to see if someone was playing a prank on her. ‘No that can’t be it, who would do something like that?’

"I think it's time for you to head out now, but don't worry Dawn I will always be there in your time of need, no matter the circumstances," Mizu said slightly touching Dawn's shoulder even though she could not feel it.

Dawn soon got up wiping away more tears and walked towards the door almost tripping. She turned one more time to the corpse vowing to find the murderer(s). When she stepped out, she saw Hakai and Makoto waiting for her. They walk up to her and Hakai asks if she was ready. Saying yes, the Hamasaki family starts to head back home.

The next day, there was suddenly a loud knock at the Hamasaki residence.

"Yes, is there something you need?" Hakai says answering the door with an annoyed look.

"Hello sir, we are from the Legion, we are here to deliver your invitations to the Legion          hearing," one of the officers said.

'. . . Eh the Legion, are they here for the hearing dad was talking about 'Dawn thought listening in on their conversation.

"Thank you, sirs, we'll see you there," Hakai says bowing to the two officers as they leave.

"Father who was that?" Makoto asks as Hakai walks back to the living room.

"Officers, they came to notify us of when and where the hearing will be held," he replies.

"So, we'll be able to see who killed mom," Dawn jumped in.

"But we already know who did it," Makoto says as he looks in Dawn's direction.

"Would you stop saying that I did no such thing," Dawn defended herself.

"Both of you stop it! To answer your question Dawn, yes, and that is why I wanted to know if you both wanted to go," Hakai asked.

"YES!" both yelled without a second thought.

So as a week passed the Hamasaki's got ready to attend the hearing.

"Hey Makoto, does the Legion really have the all-seeing eye," Dawn hesitantly asks the morning of the trial.

“Yes, one of their members magic can see past events of a person, although they probably won't need it seeing that it's obvious who did it," Makoto replies annoyed.

'Hmm magic? The thing we mages have. I wonder what it would be like to have such a power.' Dawn wondered slowly learning to ignore her brother's accusations. After that, they finished getting ready and came down to eat breakfast. When breakfast was finished, they headed to the area where they would find the murderer of Mizu Hamasaki.
