Episode 16

There's no turning back.

Vivian continued on my way, determined to do this.

"Vivian, I understand that you're discouraged because things haven't turned out as we expected, but I think you're making a hasty decision." she says, and I hear her walking hurriedly towards me, but I decide to remain silent, neither of us will back down. "Vivian, listen to me, stop, please, listen to me."

I look at Tomas waiting for me and furrow my brow when I see him accompanied by Kendall. Seeing me, she smiles triumphantly.

Great! What was the need to bring her?

"See, that bitch came to mock you. I hate her!" I ignore my friend and get closer to them. "Vivian, listen to me, stop." Jeimy grabs me by the shoulder and tries to stop me, that angers me, I turn around abruptly.

"Enough of...!" My words stop when I start seeing black spots and my vision becomes blurry. "Oh God!" I exclaim, scared.

"Vivian, what's wrong? You look pale."

"I... I don't feel well, I... I think I'm going to..."

"What's going on here? What are you doing here, Jeimy?" I hear Tomas's voice.

My legs lose their stability and my knees buckle, I don't fall to the ground thanks to Tomas who has arrived with us and holds me.

"What's happening? Is this a trick?" he asks.

"Don't be foolish, can't you see she's pale?"

"It's another one of her tricks." Kendall speaks.

"I... I don't feel..." Darkness takes over me before I can finish the sentence.

I open my eyes and furrow my brow, feeling a dry mouth. I am lying down, I sit up and feel everything spinning, placing my hand on my head.

"Don't move too abruptly, ma'am." Someone speaks and I look to my right, furrowing my brow in confusion. It's a nurse, am I in a hospital?

"Am I in the hospital?" I inquire, the woman nods.

"Yes, you arrived here fifteen minutes ago." she explains. "Your sister-in-law and husband brought you, you fainted and didn't regain consciousness."

"I see." I mutter quietly.

"In a few minutes, the doctor will come with the results of your tests." she informs me. "Stay calm."

"I have a terrible headache, could you give me something for it?"

"No, but when the doctor arrives, you can ask for it and then I'll gladly give it to you."

"I understand, thank you."

The nurse leaves the room and immediately, Tomas and Jeimy enter, he with an angry expression and she with concern.

"What the hell is all this?" he asks me, and I look at him confused.

"What are you talking about?"

"What am I talking about? Don't act innocent." he says as he approaches me. "All this theatrics of fainting."

"I don't know what you're talking about, I'm not pretending, I felt sick and lost consciousness." I respond, also looking annoyed. "It's none of your business, but I've been feeling unwell lately, it's just the first time this has happened to me."

"Tomas, leave Vivian alone, stop saying nonsense, accusing her of making this up, grow up already." Jeimy scolds him. "Why didn't you tell me you were feeling sick?"

"I don't know, it slipped my mind, and it's only been recent."

"Well, God forbid it's nothing serious." she comments.

"The nurse said that the doctor will come in a few minutes to give me the results of the tests they did."

"Alright." Jeimy says, Tomas remains silent, but his annoyed expression stays the same.

Several minutes later, the doctor enters the room with some papers in his hands.

"Good afternoon, I'm Doctor Rubios, I have the results of the tests." The man looks at one of the papers and smiles. "Congratulations, you are pregnant, approximately ten weeks along."

No, no, no, and definitely no!

"Oh... but... But I..." I mutter unable to speak, I swallow hard and look at Tomas, his face contorted with anger, Jeimy has wide eyes. "I can't be pregnant, my... My period has been normal."

"It's quite common, I'll refer you to obstetrics for follow-up." the man says and leaves the room.

"Oh my God, Vivian, this is wonderful!" Jeimy exclaims, coming to my side.

No, this is not wonderful, this is a disaster.

"I knew all of this was a theatrics." Tomas says, approaching me. "You never wanted a divorce, all of this was a joke, you wanted to make me believe you were going to give me the divorce and then at the last moment, you were going to play this theatrics." I shake my head from side to side, denying that.

"No, that's not true."

"Stop lying already!" he shouts and grabs me by the shoulders, shaking me. "You're a damn crazy person who only wants to ruin my life, what do you want from me?"

"Tomas, you've gone insane, let her go!" Jeimy tries to free me from Tomas' grip but it's difficult for her.

Some nurses enter the room and take hold of Tomas, one on each arm, pulling him away from me, and I look at him through tear-filled eyes, seething with anger.

"I wanted to do it, I want to divorce you!" I shout, tired of all of this. "Why do you always have to think the worst of me?" I ask, annoyed. "Do you think I want this? No, the last thing I want is to bring a child into this situation."

"Vivian, what are you saying?" Jeimy asks me in a low voice.

"Don't worry, Tomas, the plans won't change, I will divorce you. If you want, you can bring the lawyer right now." I say, he looks at me with hatred in his eyes.

"Let go of me" he demands the nurses, they look at each other. "I won't do anything, I'll just leave." the men believe him and let him go. "Tomorrow, I'll bring the lawyer to the house, I hope your words are true." he says and leaves the room.

"I want the doctor to discharge me," I ask the men, one nods and they both leave the room.

"Vivian, you can't divorce Tomas now."

"Why not?"

"You're expecting a child from him, right? Because it's his?" I look at her annoyed and indignant.

"It's unbelievable that as my best and only friend, you would ask me that."

"I'm sorry, but you seem so determined to divorce that... I... Sorry, it was a stupid question and thought," I nod. "But you can't divorce Tomas. Are you considering an abortion?" she probes and I remain silent for several seconds.

"No. I would never do something like that," I respond.

Despite this news hitting me like a bucket of cold water, that I never imagined this could happen to me now and that it's the worst timing.

In my womb is my child, flesh of my flesh. I will love and protect him from everything, including his father. I know that the best thing for me and my child is to distance ourselves from Tomas.

"And do you plan on raising him alone?"

"Yes, Jeimy, I don't need your brother to raise my child. As you can see, he doesn't care. Besides, if my mother was able to raise me, I can do it too. Now please, if you're going to keep insisting on the same thing, I beg you to leave me alone. If not, you can stay," I say and lie down on the bed. She remains silent for several seconds, then leaves the room.
