Episode 10

What will happen in his life?

Lorenzo

The elevator doors open, and I take a step out. In the reception area, Pamela and Miss Smith are already there, ready to start the workday. I hold my gaze on my assistant for a little longer than necessary and discreetly scan her body with my eyes. She's dressed in red today, and that color suits her well. Her fair and smooth skin stands out, and the dress hugs her body, accentuating her figure.

"Good morning," I greet as I approach them.

"Good morning, Mr. Salvatierra," they both respond in unison, and I smile. "We hope you had a good weekend."

"That's correct," Pamela replies.

"Very well, Mr. Salvatierra," Miss Smith tells me.

"Good, let's get to work," I say and walk towards my office.

I enter and head to my desk, feeling her presence behind me. When I reach my chair, I turn around. Miss Smith is standing there with a tablet in hand, waiting for my orders.

"Miss Smith, I need you to schedule a meeting with Mr. Johnny Evans. You can find the contact information on the tablet. Please arrange it as soon as possible."

"Yes, sir," she replies.

"Also, please connect me with the president of the Colombian branch. I need to know how the negotiations with the banana growers are progressing," I instruct. She quickly takes notes. "That will be all for now," I conclude, and she nods.

"You may leave, sir," Miss Smith turns around, and despite my efforts not to, I can't help but admire her.

I wonder what her husband is like. I suppose he must be very proud to have such a beautiful woman by his side. Well, it's better for me to focus on my work.

Several minutes later, the phone in my office rings, and I press the speaker button.

"Sir, President Torres is on line 2," announces Miss Smith.

"Very well."

"Mr. Salvatierra, good morning," the enthusiastic voice of President Torres greets me.

"Good morning, I hope you have some good news for me."

"Of course, sir. The negotiations have been progressing well. We are on the verge of reaching a favorable agreement, and..."

I hear a knock on my office door and shift my gaze from the computer screen.

"Come in," I order.

"Excuse me, sir," Miss Smith speaks. "I wanted to inform you that I managed to reach Mr. Evans," she says, and I nod. "The issue is that he is traveling to Portugal tomorrow and will be there for fifteen days. He mentioned that he has a busy schedule today." I furrow my brow; that bastard is dragging this out. "However, he also informed me that he will be having lunch today at the Beautiful Life Club and would be happy to meet with you."

"Very well, thank you," I say, handing her some documents from my desk. She quickly takes them. "Make copies and file them, then bring them back to me," I instruct. She nods. "By the way, I need you to come with me to that meeting," I inform her, and she nods again. "You may go now."

Hours later, we both arrive at the club. I stop in front of the receptionist, and he bows.

"Welcome, Mr. Salvatierra," he greets.

"Good afternoon, the young lady is with me," I say, and the man nods.

We walk towards the restaurant, and it's not difficult for me to spot Evans, as his physique stands out.

"Good afternoon," I greet as we approach the table.

"Mr. Salvatierra, how delightful that you could make it. Please take a seat, and your companion as well," he says, looking appreciatively at Miss Smith. "I assume this young lady is the one I spoke to on the phone this morning?" he asks.

"That's correct. Nice to meet you, Vivian Smith," she introduces herself politely.

"The pleasure is mine, young lady," he looks her up and down, and I avoid rolling my eyes.

Not even in your wildest dreams, you idiot.

I pull a chair back for her. "Miss," I offer, and she smiles.

"Thank you," she says and takes a seat.

"Very well, Mr. Evans, let's get down to business," I say, taking my seat.

"Direct and to the point, as always, Salvatierra," he comments and smiles. "Very well..."

For several minutes, Miss Smith remains silent, enjoying her lunch, while Evans, that idiot, and I talk about business. But suddenly, I feel her restlessly shifting in her chair.

"What's wrong?" I inquire.

"Oh, nothing, sir," she says, but her voice is choked, as if she wants to cry, and her eyes show signs of it too. I furrow my brow but refrain from saying anything else; however, I remain attentive.

During one of those moments, I notice Miss Smith looking at something. I glance in the same direction and see a young couple enjoying their meal; the man caresses the woman's face, and she smiles.

"Pardon me, I need to use the restroom," Miss Smith suddenly announces.

I glance back at the couple, who are still engrossed in each other.

Does she know them?

After several minutes, Miss Smith hasn't returned. I grow worried; it's been ten minutes since she went to the bathroom, and even Evans has left. I decide not to wait any longer, get up from my chair, and head towards the restaurant bathrooms.

I arrive at the women's restroom, knowing I shouldn't enter, but I need to know if she's alright.

Before I can take the risk and enter, the door opens, and Miss Smith comes out.

"Mr. Salvatierra!" she exclaims, surprised to see me.

"You took longer, and I was worried. Are you okay? Did the meal not agree with you?" I ask. She blushes and nods.

It's not true; it's obvious she's been crying, with her reddened, teary eyes giving her away.

What happened to her?

Could that man out there be her husband? No, there's no way. I don't think a man could be so foolish, especially considering Miss Smith just got married.

"I apologize for bringing you all the way here and interrupting your meeting with Mr. Evans," she apologizes.

"It's no problem; the man has already left," I inform her. She nods. "If you feel unwell, you can take the rest of the day off," I suggest. She looks surprised.

"That's not necessary; I'm feeling better now," she assures me.

"Very well, then let's go back to the office," I say. She nods. We walk together, and as we leave the restroom area and pass through the restaurant, she discreetly glances at the couple. Quickly, she averts her gaze, lets out a sigh.

Who could that couple be? Why is she upset?

Come to think of it, Miss Smith doesn't exude the characteristic happiness of a newlywed woman. Could she have been forced into this marriage? That sounds absurd, but in this world, you see all sorts of things.

What's happening in Miss Smith's life?
