I am not interested in anything about you.
Vivian
I finish the last task that Mr. Salvatierra left me and I save the document. I print it, smile, and check the time on my watch: 6:30 PM. I finished half an hour before quitting time. I get up from my desk, take the papers, put them in a folder, and head towards my boss's office. I knock on the door and hear a voice.
"Come in."
I open the door and smile politely.
"Mr. Salvatierra, I have finished the report on the upcoming products" I say, extending the folder to him.
"I hope everything is fine" he comments, looking expectant. I must say his dark blue eyes are impressive.
"Well, there's an issue with the canned peaches" I inform him. He furrows his brow and opens the folder.
"Page 8" I say, he quickly finds it and as he reads it, an expression of anger forms on his face.
"Damn it!" he stops and looks at me, appearing somewhat embarrassed. "I'm sorry, but these mistakes really irritate me" he explains. "Is everything else in order?" he asks, and I nod.
"Yes, sir" I reply. "I managed to reschedule all your appointments as you instructed." I continue with the report. "The last appointment on Saturday is for 10:40 AM."
He smiles, satisfied.
"Very well, Miss Smith. You've done a good job today" he comments, and that excites me, but I try to hide it as much as possible.
"Thank you."
"Now, please go and tell Pamela to get me in touch with Engineer Montecarlo" he requests, and I nod. "You can leave for home now. I'll see you tomorrow at nine o'clock sharp."
"Yes, thank you very much. Have a good night, sir."
"Same to you, Miss Smith."
I leave the office and go straight to find Pamela to give her the information.
"Do you need any help?" I ask her. "Mr." Salvatierra said I could go, but if you need anything, I can assist you.
She has been very kind to me today, and if she needs my help, I want to offer it.
"No, don't worry. I've finished everything. I just need to make this call, and that's it. Go home, rest, and see you tomorrow" she assures me.
"Alright, goodbye."
I enter the house feeling exhausted and hungry. Today I couldn't have lunch because the excitement and desire to do things right didn't let me. I barely had half a sandwich and a cup of coffee in the afternoon. I'm about to go upstairs when I'm intercepted by Carmen.
"Good evening, young Vivian. How was your day?" she asks with a serious expression.
"Excellent" I reply, very happy.
"Mr. Tomas is currently having dinner in the dining room" she informs me, and I open my eyes in surprise.
"Is he here?" I question, and she nods.
"Do you want me to serve your dinner?" she asks, and after thinking about it for several seconds, I nod.
"Yes, please" I respond. She bows and I can't help but laugh at that. "I'll wash my hands" I say, heading up to my room.
Minutes later, I come back down and go to the dining room. Indeed, Tomas is sitting at the head of the table, silently having his dinner.
"H... Hello, good evening" I greet. He looks up, doesn't say anything, and returns his attention to his plate. I swallow the lump in my throat and sit down next to him, on his right side.
"It's good that you're here" I comment. At that moment, Carmen brings the plates and starts serving my dinner. A few minutes later, she finishes and bows.
"Excuse me" she says, and then turns around to leave the dining room.
"Everything looks delicious" I mutter. "Carmen cooks really well. He remains silent, but I refuse to be in the same place without exchanging a word. I sigh and taste the food." Indeed, it's very tasty. Silence is all I receive from him, but I won't give up. "Something wonderful happened to me today. I was called by Salvatierra Industries to sign my intern contract. I was supposed to be the assistant to the company's vice president, but in the end, they gave me the position of assistant to the... C..."
"Shut up," he interrupts, raising his gaze and looking at me angrily. "I don't care about anything you do or what happens to you," he says.
"I just wanted to start a conversation," I murmur, lowering my gaze.
"Don't do it, stay quiet. I can't stand listening to you or seeing you," he says disdainfully.
"Then why are you here?" I ask, my voice trembling.
"What do you think?" he asks, and I understand he was probably forced by his grandmother. "That's right, Mrs. Caroll imposed her will once again," he says sarcastically. "Congratulations, you've fooled my family."
"What are you talking about?"
"Don't play dumb with me, I know perfectly well what kind of woman you are. A deceptive innocent-looking girl who never causes trouble, but in reality, you are a harpy, an obsessed woman capable of doing anything to get what you want, someone who doesn't mind hurting others to achieve it."
"I'm not like that," I say through gritted teeth. "I would never harm anyone."
"Is that so? And this marriage? You were able to deceive my grandmother and sister with that story of not remembering what happened that night because you were drunk. But not me, I know I didn't drink too much, and I know you drugged me to get me into bed."
"No, I would never do something like that," I defend myself.
"STOP LYING, I KNOW YOU DID IT!" he yells, so angry that I jump in my chair. "Kendall always warned me to be careful with you, but I was fooled by your innocent appearance. Now I know I should have listened to him," he comments in a lower tone, but still looking at me with contempt. "I've lost my appetite," he says and gets up from the table.
Tears start to stream down my face, and my chest tightens with pain. I get up from the dining room and head towards the kitchen, wiping away my tears.
"Carmen, please clear the table," I say and turn away, climbing the stairs and rushing to my room. Once there, I throw myself onto the bed and let the tears flow freely.
Some time later, I hear a knock on the bedroom door.
"Come in," I say. Carmen peeks in and smiles apologetically.
"Permission to enter, ma'am. I'm about to retire, is there anything you need?" she asks, probably because I didn't have dinner.
"I don't want anything, don't worry, go get some rest."
"Are you sure? I can quickly prepare something if you didn't enjoy your dinner."
"The dinner was delicious, but I've lost my appetite," I say, lowering my gaze.
"I can make you a milkshake, I make a delicious one, my daughter loves it," she suggests, and I smile at her. It's obvious she's worried, and she won't be at ease if I go to bed without eating anything.
"Alright, Carmen, bring the milkshake," I say, and she smiles.
"Very well, I'll bring it to you," she says and closes the door behind her.
I sigh and get up from the bed, walking towards the bathroom for a quick shower. When I come out, I put on my underwear and a robe. At that moment, Carmen enters with the milkshake in her hand.
"Thank you," I say, taking the glass. I take a sip and open my eyes. "It's delicious, no wonder your daughter likes it so much!"
"Thank you."
"And how old is your daughter?" I ask, interested in knowing a bit more about her.
"Twenty-one, she's in university studying chemical engineering. She's very smart, but a disaster when it comes to relationships. Whenever she gets depressed because of that, I make her this milkshake," she tells me, and I smile.
It must be nice to have a mom who pampers you when your heart is broken or when you're sad for any other reason. My mom has never been the affectionate type.
"Your daughter is very lucky, Carmen," I say, finishing the milkshake. "Thank you." I hand her the glass and smile. "Now go get some rest."
"Yes, ma'am. You too," she says and walks towards the door. "Sleep well."
I smile at her, she leaves the room, and I sigh. I go to the bathroom again and make a face of displeasure. My eyes are swollen, and I hope a skincare routine will fix this mess.
