Megan walked out of the airport. She walked with one hand dragging the suitcase in her hand, while her other hand was busy with her mobile phone. Since then, she had become too absorbed in looking at the photos in her phone's gallery.
Megan was busy reminiscing about her good old days with Kylie and her family.
After walking for quite some time until she finally arrived at the place to find a taxi, she then stopped and waited for a while until an empty taxi passed by.
"I've been away for so long that I didn't realise that the last picture I took with Kylie was about four or five years ago," she muttered under her breath. Megan noticed the date on the last photo she had taken with Kylie. In the photo, they looked very cheerful. It was as if the moment they took the picture was the most beautiful moment they had ever spent.
Megan's attention was suddenly diverted when a taxi car pulled up in front of her. The windscreen slowly moved down, allowing Megan to easily see the man driving the car.
"Looking for a taxi, miss? I can take you to your destination," the driver said in a friendly tone.
"Sure." Megan nodded her head. She put her mobile phone in her hand while the driver moved to help her put her suitcase into the boot.
Once that was done, Megan got in and sat in the back seat.
The taxi moved slowly, leaving the airport where she had landed and travelling towards her destination. Kylie's house.
Throughout the journey, Megan didn't say much. The driver was busy driving, while Megan was busy looking out of the window. She observed one by one the buildings she had just seen.
"So much has changed here," she muttered under her breath, but her voice could still be heard very clearly by the driver up ahead.
The man glanced at Megan through the centre mirror of his taxi.
"Are you new here?" he asked. Megan shifted her focus to him.
"No, I'm not. I was born here. It's just that ten years ago I studied abroad, and I went straight to work there. The last time I came back here was about five years ago."
"Oh, really? I thought you were a newcomer."
"No."
"Then welcome back home."
"Thank you." Megan smiled slightly before refocusing on the window.
I can't wait to meet Kylie, she thought to herself.
...*...
The taxi slowly pulled up in front of Kylie's yard. Megan was dragging her suitcase in her hands after paying the taxi fare.
As she was about to walk towards the entrance, Megan suddenly saw something unusual.
Step!
Megan stopped in her tracks. She paused, watching as a woman stood at the door, knocking loudly on the front door of her cousin's house.
"Miss Kylie!" the woman yelled back, calling out her cousin's name.
Who was that woman? Why was she shouting for Kylie? Was she coming to see her? Megan thought. The woman moved towards her.
"Miss, open the door. Not like this!" she shouted again.
"Excuse me!" said Megan. Making the woman's focus instantly shift in the direction from which the voice came.
"Would you like to see Kylie?" asked Megan.
"Yes," said the woman, nodding her head slowly.
"It looks like the door is locked, maybe she's away. I'll try to contact her." Megan pulled out her mobile phone.
"No need. She's inside."
"How did you know?"
"This happens all the time. But, apologies in advance..., who are you? Do you know Miss Kylie?"
"I'm her cousin."
"Ah..., I see."
"Wait, you haven't answered my question. Why did you say that this has happened many times? And how did you know that Kylie was inside?"
"It seems like you don't know..."
"Know about what?"
"Hm...," the woman mumbled. She fell silent, at a loss as to where to explain everything. Meanwhile, Megan continued to watch her with a puzzled look on her face.
