Chapter 19

"So do you think you passed your exams," Kane asked. "I hope so," Ezra said. "I think I did. How bout you," Atlas said. "I'm hoping that I did cause if not I did all that studying for nothing," Kane laughed. "I think Akito is still testing," Atlas said. "He does have more classes than us," Ezra stated. "Should we wait for him," Atlas asked. "He said he's done but one of the professors asked him to stay a bit to talk," Kane said. "Well, I hope he hurries. It's freezing out here," Ezra said. "You guys can go. I'll wait for him," Kane said. "You sure. You're not even wearing a jacket," Atlas said. "Yes, you guys go ahead. We'll meet you at the restaurant," Kane said. "Alright see you later then," Ezra said grabbing Atlas's hand and leading him away. Kane stood there looking down at his phone when a couple of people bumped into him knocking him to the ground. "Watch it, dude," one of the people said laughing. "You alright," Akito asked helping him up. "Yea," Kane replied. "Did they break your phone," Akito asked. "The screens cracked but it still works," Kane replied sighing. "Here's your stuff," Akito said handing him his notebooks and binder. "Thanks," Kane said taking them. Akito took his jacket off and wrapped it around Kane. "It's cold out here. You're gonna get sick," Akito said. "Thank you," Kane said smiling. "Let's go. I'm sure your friends are waiting for us," Akito said. Kane nodded then followed Akito to the car. They arrived at the restaurant to see Ezra and Atlas waiting for them outside. "What took so long," Ezra asked. "Sorry about that had a bit of a problem," Kane replied. "Are you alright," Atlas asked. "Yea," Kane replied. "Let's go in its freezing," Ezra said. "Yea, plus now Akito isn't wearing a jacket," Atlas said. They went inside and got a table then ordered some food. As they ate they talked about the exams and what had happened after they had left. Ezra and Atlas weren't really surprised as those two had always picked on Kane. Ezra told Akito what all those guys have done to Kane and how he doesn't stick up for himself. Once they finished Akito paid the bill and then left. Kane rode back home with Ezra and Atlas. Ezra dropped them off then headed off to work. Kane went upstairs and put his things on his desk. Just as he sat his phone down Atlas picked it up. "They broke your phone and you still said nothing," Atlas said. "It's just the screen," Kane said. "Do you have enough to get it fixed," Atlas asked. "No but I can save up," Kane replied sitting on the bed. "Well hopefully those people leave you alone tomorrow," Atlas said. "I wish I knew what they wanted from me," Kane said. "They're just bullies," Atlas said. Kane sighed then laid back on the bed. Atlas sat down beside him. "Ugh," Kane said. "What's on your mind," Atlas asked. "I'm honestly not sure myself," Kane replied. "Well then let me ask you a question," Atlas said. "Alright go ahead," Kane said sitting up. "Why haven't you asked Akito out yet," Atlas asked. "I...um... I'm not sure how," Kane replied laying back down on the bed, covering his face with a pillow. "Well, it's clear that you like him. Tomorrow just tell him you want to be his boyfriend. You've already told one another that you like each other. Might as well just go for it," Atlas said standing up. "I don't know," Kane said uncovering his face. "Well then use this time to think about. Imma go shower," Atlas said then left the room.

"Hey orphan," a voice shouted from behind. Kane sighed then turned around to see a group of people walking towards. One of the people who approached knocked Kane's things out of his hands while another shoved him to the ground and kicked him in the abdomen. "You're so pathetic, Kane. You can't even fight back," man one said laughing. "What a loser," man two said pulling Kane up by his hair. "Ahh," Kane cried out as one of the men kicked him in the chest. Before they could continue the man holding onto Kane was thrown backwards. "What the hell. Who are you," man 4 asked. "Don't worry about that. But if you guys want to keep your lives I suggest you leave," the man said showing that he has a gun. "We should get out of here. That guy has a gun," Man 5 stated. "Not only that but isn't he Snake," Man 6 added. The group of people ran off quickly as fear overwhelmed them. Snake turned around to face Kane before kneeling in front of him. "Are you alright," Snake asked. "I think so. Thank you," Kane replied. Snake helped him up then picked up things handing them to Bones. "Boss, this isn't like you," Bones said. "Just go have Riot pull the car around back. You take his things to the car. We'll be there in a little bit," Snake said coldly. "Yes sir," Bones said then quickly left. "Why are you here," Kane asked. "Lucky for you we were passing by," Snake replied. "You didn't have to help," Kane said looking down. "Let's continue this conversation later. We're drawing in a crowd," Snake said leading Kane away. "I can make it back," Kane said. "We'll take you. It's on the way," Snake said opening the door. Kane hesitantly got into the car. Once Kane was settled into the car Snake got in next to him. Riot drove them to Kane's house. "Here's your things," Snake said. "Um thanks again," Kane said then walked away. "Boss do you like that kid," Bones asked. "Don't worry about it. Let's head back," Snake replied coldly. "Yes sir," Bones and Riot said at once. They arrived at the hideout and went inside. Snake told Bones and Riot to stick to the plan then left to take care of something else. Bones and Riot looked at each other confused then went to do what their boss told them to. Meanwhile, Kane came out of his room and into the kitchen. "Kane what happened," Mila asked. "Nothing serious don't worry," Kane replied. "Do the others know," Mila asked. "No I haven't told anyone," Kane replied. "Akito your back. I think Kane got beat up," Mila said. Kane turned around to face Akito. "I see that. Come with me we can treat your wounds," Akito said taking Kane by the hand. He led Kane upstairs and into his room. "Akito," Kane said looking down. "Have a seat on the bed. I'll get the first aid kit," Akito said. Akito came back and sat the kit on the bed beside Kane. "What did you want to say," Akito asked. "Were you just passing by," Kane asked. "Yes I promise I wasn't doing anything illegal this time," Akito replied opening the kit. "I should have told you what was going on," Kane said. "Lucky I passing by. Can you remove your shirt, please. I saw them kick you a few times. Next time please just call me or message me. You know I'll come help you," Akito said. "I will," Kane said. "Does your chest hurt at all? It's bruised but so is your abdomen. Are you in any pain at all," Akito asked. "I am a little but it's not that bad," Kane replied. "I can get you some medicine for the pain. Tomorrow I'm going to take you to see a doctor. There's a chance you might have a broken rib. If your pain gets worse or you start feeling uncomfortable please tell me," Akito said closing the first aid kit and putting it away. "Akito would you have killed those people," Kane asked. "Is that what you were worried about," Akito asked. Kane looked down and nodded. "I wasn't gonna kill them," Akito said. Kane looked up at him surprised and confused. "Do you kill people," Kane asked. "Not usually," Akito replied. "You killed those people at the warehouse," Kane stated. "That was only cause they were gonna kill me and Axel. Most of the time I don't kill people. I have however put people in the hospital after beating them," Akito said. "How many have you killed since you joined the mafia," Kane asked trembling a bit. "I've only killed 11 people. All of them were SlitThroats members. When going against them it's kill or be killed," Akito replied. "Do you regret killing any of them," Kane asked. "I did in the beginning but I realized that it will happen with what I do. But I will always make sure to keep you safe," Akito said kneeling. Akito lifted Kane's face to look him in the eyes. "If there's anything you want me to do just tell me. If you need me even if it's just because you want to see me call me and I will show up no matter what I'm doing. Even if I'm with the Snakes I will still show up. Kane, I will do whatever it takes to make my boyfriend happy. That I can promise you. Now get some rest. I'll go downstairs and get you some medicine for your pain," Akito said then kissed him on top of the head. After Kane realized what Akito had just called him his face turned bright red. "I guess you just realized what I said," Akito chuckled standing up. "Is that what you want," Kane asked. "Only if you're alright with it," Akito said. "I'm okay with it," Kane replied hiding his face. "I'll be right back," Akito said then left. After some time he returned to the bedroom. He saw that Kane had fallen asleep so he placed the medicine on the nightstand and left the room quietly.

Kane woke in the middle of the night to his chest hurting. He saw the medicine on the nightstand and took some then he got up going downstairs. "You alright," Akito asked from behind him. "I was getting a drink," Kane replied. "Are you in any pain or discomfort," Akito asked walking towards him. "It hurts a little when I breathe," Kane replied. "I can take you to the hospital if you want. You most likely have a broken rib or two," Akito said gently stroking his face. "Maybe we should," Kane replied. "Let's get going then. You feel like you may have a fever," Akito said. Akito walked away to get their jackets. "Akito," Kane said coughing. "We're going to the hospital now," Akito said running over to him. "I don't feel so well," Kane said then collapsed. Akito caught him before he could hit the ground. He took his Jacket and wrapped it around him then picked him up. "What happened to him," Axel asked from behind. "He got beat up earlier but he didn't want to go to the hospital so I'm taking him now," Akito said turning around. Axel saw blood dripping from his brother's mouth and began to worry. "I'm coming with you," Axel said. "That's fine let's go," Akito said. Axel held the door open for Akito. Once they got into the car they hurried off to the hospital. At the hospital, the doctors rushed Kane to surgery immediately after they had arrived. "Akito, Mila told Ezra and Atlas. They are on their way here now," Axel stated. "Ok," Akito said as his phone rang. Akito stood up and took the call from Tokoyami. "Are you busy," Tokoyami asked. "Yes what do you need," Akito asked. "Everything alright you sound worried which is unlike you," Tokoyami asked. "I'm at the hospital," Akito replied. "Are you hurt," Tokoyami asked concerned. "No Kane was injured at college earlier today. He refused to go earlier but he seemed fine so I didn't push him. He coughed up blood then collapsed so we rushed him here," Akito said. "Do you need us to go there," Tokoyami asked. "No, it should be alright. Kane's friends should be here soon anyway," Akito said. "I'm at least coming to see you Akito. I know how much you care about this kid. I'll be there in a little bit," Tokoyami said then hung up. Akito walked back to the waiting room and sat next to Axel. "Who beat him up," Axel asked. "It was a group of kids from the college. I happened to been passing by there and saw it. I may have scared those people," Akito said. "Was it bad," Axel asked. "They were kicking him in the chest and abdomen," Akito replied. "I saw you drop him off earlier," Axel stated. "Then you know how I scared those people," Akito said. "Did you threaten their lives like you do with the others," Axel asked. "Yes," Akito replied. Ezra and Atlas ran over to them. "Have you guys heard anything," Ezra asked. "Not yet," Axel replied. "Akito you doing alright," Ezra asked. "Yea, just waiting for the doctor to tell us what going on," Akito replied getting up and walking outside. "He's worried," Axel stated. "I bet," Atlas said. "He's been outside once already," Axel said. "I'll go check on him," Ezra said. Ezra went outside to see Akito smoking. "Since when did you do that," Ezra asked. "Since I turned 17," Akito replied. "Are you waiting for someone? You keep checking your phone," Ezra asked. "Tokoyami is on his way. He should be here soon," Akito replied. "Oh did you call him," Ezra asked. "No, he called me and I told him what happened. He's coming here 'cause he's worried," Akito replied. "Oh alright," Ezra said. "Akito," Tokoyami said from behind them. "I'll go back inside," Ezra said then started towards the door. He turned back to see Akito hug his brother. "Where's Akito," Atlas asked. "He's outside with his brother," Ezra replied.

Kane woke to see Axel sitting in the chair beside him. "You're awake I'll go get the doctor," Axel said then left the room. Axel returned moments later with the doctor. "Mr. Heroux your brother and boyfriend brought you here just in time to save your life. Your appendix had ruptured and you have broken two of your ribs. You will need to stay here for the next few days for monitoring. I will be back in a few hours to check on you," the doctor said then left. "Do you want me to get Akito? He's outside right now," Axel asked. Kane nodded then looked at the wall. Axel left the room to get Akito. "I'm glad your awake," Akito said entering the room. Kane looked over at him and smiled slightly. "How are you feeling," Akito asked walking over to him. "I'm alright," Kane replied. "You in any pain," Akito asked. "No," Kane replied. Akito grabbed Kane's hand and kissed it. "Everyone's worried about you," Akito said. "You look worried as well," Kane stated. "I am," Akito said. Kane reached out and gently touched his face. "I'm sorry to have worried you. I should have listened to you earlier and went to the hospital then," Kane said. "You don't have to apologize," Akito said grabbing his hand and kissing it once again. "I'm glad you were there and I'm glad you're here now," Kane said. "I will always be here for you. Now get some rest," Akito said. Kane ended up falling straight to sleep while Akito sat in the chair next to his bed. Tokoyami walked into the room and over to Akito placing his hand on his shoulder. "How's he doin'," Tokoyami asked. "He's doing better than he was yesterday," Akito replied. "That's good," Tokoyami said. "I thought you left," Akito said. "I was going to but I wanted to make sure you were alright," Tokoyami replied. "I'm alright but thanks for coming here," Akito said. "Anytime, I gotta go. I'll call you later," Tokoyami said. "Drive safe," Akito said. "Right one more thing. Stop smoking so much before it kills you," Tokoyami said. "I don't smoke very often you know that," Akito said. Tokoyami left the hospital and headed back home. "Akito," Kane said. "We didn't wake you did we," Akito asked. Kane shook his head no. "Do you need something," Akito asked. "Some water," Kane replied. "I'll get you some," Akito said standing up. Kane grabbed his hand causing him to look back. "Everything alright," Akito asked. Kane didn't say anything but just looked at him. "I'll be back don't worry," Akito said kissing him on the forehead then left the room. Akito came back into the room moments later with a cup of water. He helped Kane to drink it before sitting down beside him.
