Chapter 17

"Here Veronica made lunch," Arlo said handing Kane a plate. "Thanks," Kane said setting it beside him. "You need to eat Kane. I know you're worried about my brother but you need to take care of yourself. He wouldn't want something to happen to you. He cares a lot about you," Arlo said. "I know," Kane said. "Be sure and eat. Tokoyami said he should wake up soon," Arlo said then left. Kane laid his head on the bed eventually falling asleep. Kane woke moments later to a hand touching his head. When he looked up he saw Akito was awake. "Akito your awake," Kane said standing up. "You seem surprised," Akito said. "It's been two weeks," Kane stated. "Has it been that long," Akito asked. "Yes, I'm going to let Tokoyami know you're awake. I'll be right back," Kane said then left the room. Kane returned moments later with Tokoyami and Arlo. "How are you feeling," Tokoyami asked. "Good but you look dead," Akito replied. "I'm exhausted 'cause I've been taking care of you, idiot. You stopped breathing 4 times. We weren't even sure if you were gonna make it," Tokoyami said. "Well I did as I normally do," Akito said sitting up. "Your wound on your abdomen finally healed but the gunshot wound has not. So you still need to take it easy," Tokoyami said then left the room. "He's been working his ass off to keep you alive. You could at least thank him. He takes care of you himself 'cause you won't go to the hospital," Arlo said. "Arlo you know just as well as I do that if I go to the hospital the police will be called. Don't forget I'm in the mafia and the things I do aren't exactly legal," Akito stated. "You also have co-ownership of the Akashiro family company but you don't even go to the meetings like you're supposed to. Now you're going to college. We hate seeing you get hurt all the time. We're always worried about you every time you go out and don't answer your phone," Arlo said. "I'm in college so I can learn how to do business. I don't know anything that's why I don't attend the meetings and I've told Tokoyami this," Akito said. "We want you to leave the mafia," Arlo said. "You know I can't do that," Akito said. "Why not you said no one knows your real identity," Arlo asked. "I'm not leaving the mafia. I'm the leader, Arlo," Akito said. "You're the leader," Arlo asked. "Yes, now you know why I'm always injured. Im the leader of The Snakes," Akito said. "Why didn't you tell us," Arlo asked. "I told Tokoyami a long time ago. I've been their leader for the past 6 years," Akito said. "6 years how long have you been in the mafia," Arlo asked. "Since I was 16. You were only 12 at the time. No one knew til I turned 20 what was going on," Akito stated. "I didn't know til last year," Arlo said then left. Akito sighed then leaned back. "Akito," Kane said. "I'm sorry Kane," Akito said looking over at him. "Why are you apologizing again," Kane asked. "For dragging your brother into this," Akito said. "Axel wasn't harmed and he keeps saying that it's his fault," Kane said. "It's partly my fault as well. I left to face off against Reaper as we needed him out of the way. Axel led Bones and the others to Riot. Afterwards, they were supposed to go back. Axel and Bones came back looking for me. Axel refused to go with Bones after I told them to leave. I reopened my wound being stupid. I never wanted to put your brother in danger," Akito said. "You were shot protecting him at the warehouse. I heard the gunshots through the phone. Axel had called me panicking," Kane said. "Sorry for all the trouble," Akito said. "I am mad at you for putting my brother in danger but I'm also glad that you were with him the whole time. I don't know if I'll ever be ok with this but as long as you stay alive I'll go along with it," Kane said sitting on the bed beside him. "I will try to be more careful in the future," Akito said. Kane kissed him catching him by surprise.

Kane wrapped his arms around Akito's neck as Akito kissed him back deeply. He broke the kiss then sat on top of Akito kissing him again deeply. Akito pushed his hands up Kane's shirt causing him to tremble a little. Kane broke the kiss and looked down at him. "You're injured still," Kane said. "I know you'll just have to do all the work," Akito smirked taking Kane's shirt off and kissing his chest. "Ngh wait," Kane said. "You don't have to do this but I can tell you want to," Akito said. "I... you're injured. We can once you're healed completely," Kane stated. "Sounds fair," Akito said pulling him into a deeply passionate kiss. After the kiss, Kane laid his head on Akito's chest. "I was worried you wouldn't wake," Kane said. "I know and I'm sorry," Akito said rubbing his back. "You don't have to apologize for that," Kane said. "As soon as I'm able to I'm going to take you somewhere," Akito said kissing Kane on top of the head. "Where," Kane asked. "It's a surprise now get some sleep," Akito said. Kane lay beside him cuddling up to him eventually falling asleep. Arlo came into the room and walked over to Akito. "Hey wake up," Arlo said. "What do you want," Akito asked. "Tokoyami wants to talk to you," Arlo replied. "You do realize it's 2 in the morning," Akito said. "I know," Arlo said. Akito went to get up but stopped and looked over at Kane. "I can't get up. He's on my arm," Akito said. "Can't you just move him," Arlo asked. "I don't want to wake him," Akito replied. Akito slowly moved his arm out from under Kane before getting out of bed and following Arlo out of the room. "Where's he at," Akito asked. "He's in his office. I'm going to bed now. Please don't fight with him," Arlo said then went into his room. Akito knocked on the door to Tokoyami's office. "Come in," Tokoyami said. "Arlo said you wanted to see me," Akito said walking in. "Yes, i did. Arlo told me about your conversation earlier. You finally told him the truth," Tokoyami said. "He wanted to know so I told him," Akito said. "Is Kane still here," Tokoyami asked. "Yes he's asleep," Akito replied sitting in the chair across from Tokoyami. "I assume he was in the room when you told Arlo everything," Tokoyami said closing his laptop and taking off his glasses. "He was but I told him who I was a long time ago," Akito said. "He was really worried about you. You were unconscious for two weeks. I honestly thought you were going to die. We couldn't get a doctor to come see you. Kane ended up calling Ezra to come help. While he was here they fought and Ezra left soon after treating. As I told you before you stopped breathing 4 times. But the 4th time we weren't sure if we could bring you back. You lost so much blood, I'm honestly surprised you're even alive," Tokoyami said. "I'm sorry I put you guys through that but if you are trying to get me to quit just remember that i won't. I can't promise it won't happen again but I can promise that I'll try to be more careful," Akito said. "Akito I just want you to take better care of yourself. We hate being worried all the time and if you want Kane to stay in your life you need to make some changes," Tokoyami said getting up. "As I said I'll try," Akito said. "Take this with you the next time you go out there," Tokoyami said handing him a small device. "A tracker Tokoyami. How'd you even get this," Akito asked taking it. "As you told me before I have my ways," Tokoyami said. "Is this so you can keep tabs on me," Akito asked. "No it's so I can find you quicker when you're injured. It will activate when you're injured. It's made to look like an earring so no one will even notice it," Tokoyami said. "Alright if it will make you feel a bit at ease then I'll wear it," Akito said replacing one of his earrings it with the tracker. "Thank you. You can go back to Kane. I think I'm gonna finish this tomorrow and head to bed," Tokoyami said. "Good night Tokoyami," Akito said then left the office.

That next morning Kane woke to Kimberly yelling about a snake being loose. He got up and went downstairs. "Kane be careful. One of Akito's snakes got loose," Kimberly said. "I don't see a snake," Kane said yawning. "Kimberly we can't find the snake," Veronica said walking into the room. "It's an anaconda how can you not find it? It's huge," Kimberly stated. "Which one was it? The black one or the white one," Kane asked. "It was the black one. He's always getting out," Kimberly said. "He could be hiding in a dark place somewhere," Veronica said. "I found him," Kane said. "Oh my god Kane hold on we'll get him off you," Kimberly said running over. "Aren't you afraid of them," Veronica asked walking over. "What if he hurts Kane," Kimberly asked. "I don't think he will," Veronica said. When Kimberly and Veronica tried to remove the snake it hissed and tried to bite them. They jumped back away from it. "Call Akito he'll know what to do," Kimberly said. "He's with Tokoyami though. Both of them had to attend that meeting today. He might not answer. Arlo's also at work so we'll have to figure something out," Veronica stated. "I'm calling him," Kimberly said leaving the room. Kimberly came back into the room and handed the phone to Kane telling him it was Akito on the line. "Hello," Kane said. "Hey Kane from what Kimberly said it seems you found Hymir. He won't hurt you he's probably just cold," Akito said. "He's completely wrapped around me. Kimberly and Veronica are freaking out," Kane said. "Is he hurting you at all," Akito asked. "No," Kane replied. "We're pulling up now," Akito said then hung up. Akito walked into the house and over to Kane. He gently grabbed Hymir and unwrapped him from Kane taking him back upstairs. Once upstairs and in the snake room he sat Hymir on the floor. "Why did you leave the room this time," Akito asked. "Sorry sir I just wanted to meet your boyfriend," Hymir replied. "He's not...We're not dating," Akito sighed. "Sorry sir it wont happen again," Hymir said. "Where's Fuyuki," Akito asked. "He's here somewhere," Hymir said. "I'm here master," Fuyuki said from the tree decoration. "Do you two need anything," Akito asked. "I'm fine master," Fuyuki replied. "I'm good as well sir," Hymir said. "I'll be going now then," Akito said then left. "Akito," Kane said from behind him. "Yea," Akito said turning to face him. "I need to go back. Axel got in trouble at school and his principal wants to see me," Kane said. "Alright I'll take you," Akito said. "Are you sure? What about your shoulder," Kane asked. "Who do think drove Tokoyami to that meeting and back," Akito asked. "Did you drive," Kane asked. "Yes," Akito said. Akito drove Kane to the school parked in the front and walked in with him. "You didn't have to come in," Kane said. "I know," Akito said. They walked into the principal's office to see the principal talking with him. "Mr. Heroux I'm glad you came here. Um who's this young man with you," the principal asked. "This is Akito Akashiro," Kane said. "I see Mr. Akashiro its nice to meet you," the principal said. "Call me Akito, Mr. Akashiro is my father," Akito said. "Oh, I'm sorry. Akito then," the principal said. "I'll wait for you outside Kane," Akito said then left the office. "What did Axel do this time," Kane asked. "Have a seat, Mr. Heroux," the principal said gesturing to the chair next to Axel. "I'm sorry brother," Axel said. "Axel here got into a fight with a couple of other kids. Mr. Heroux this isn't the first time and I'm afraid if this happens again he's gonna get expelled. Right, I'm only going to suspend him for the rest of the week," the principal said. "I'll talk to him when we get home," Kane said. "Alright take care, Mr. Heroux," the principal said. Kane and Axel left the school to see Akito talking on the phone. Once Akito saw him he hung up the phone then got into the car. Kane and Axel got into the car afterwards. During the car ride back no one said a word. Once they pulled up to the house everyone got out. "Everyone should be at school," Kane said. "Yea," Akito agreed. "Axel why did you fight those kids," Kane asked. "They were bullying a friend of mine," Axel replied. "Axel you can't just beat people up," Kane said. "They started it by hitting me first. I only fought back," Axel stated. "Just please don't do it again," Kane said. "Fighting doesn't solve everything. Most of the time it makes matters worse and even causes you to lose friends and sometimes even family," Akito stated. "I won't do it again. I promise Kane," Axel said then went upstairs to his room. "Akito you fight all the time don't you," Kane said. "Yes, and it doesn't solve anything. It makes things worse," Akito replied. "Are you staying home tonight," Kane asked. "I'm staying. I don't have anything else to do today. Well unless Tokoyami needs me," Akito replied. "Alright," Kane said. Kane went upstairs and into his room. When he turned around to leave he saw Akito standing in the doorway. "Akito when did you get there," Kane asked. "Just now," Akito replied. "Do you need something," Kane asked. Akito walked over to him pulling Kane into a hug. Akito broke the hug then kissed him deeply and passionately. Kane wrapped his arms around Akito's neck as he lifted him off the ground and carried him to the bed. Akito laid him down on the bed breaking the kiss. "Akito...huff...wait," Kane said panting. "I will but only because Tokoyami needs my help. When I get back we'll continue," Akito said getting up off the bed. "But your shoulder is still injured," Kane said sitting up. "It'll be alright don't worry. I'll see you later," Akito said then left. Kane laid back in the bed, grabbing his phone and looking at the messages he got from Ezra and Atlas.

"Kane," Atlas said. "Yea," Kane replied yawning. "Sorry to wake you but you're gonna be late for your classes. Ezra is waiting for you downstairs. Um, Akito left about an hour ago," Atlas said. "Oh alright," Kane said sitting up. "I'll let Ezra know you're coming," Atlas said turning to walk away. Kane got up then fell to the floor causing Atlas to turn towards him. "Ouch," Kane said rubbing his back. "Are you alright," Atlas asked walking over. "Yea, I must have slept wrong," Kane replied. "I can get you some medicine," Atlas said helping Kane up. "Thanks but I think I'll be alright. I'll get dressed and meet Ezra at the car," Kane said. Atlas saw what looked like a hickey on the back of Kane's neck. "I'll let him know," Atlas said then left quickly. Kane got dressed then went out to the car. "Morning," Ezra said. "Morning sorry I must not have heard my alarm," Kane said. "Did you have a rough night," Ezra asked as he drove them to the college. Once Ezra parked he handed Kane a notebook. "Those are the notes you missed during the two weeks you were gone," Ezra said. "Thanks," Kane replied. "Um Kane can I ask you something," Ezra asked. "Yea, of course," Kane replied. "Are you and Akito dating," Ezra asked. "We're not why would asked that," Kane replied getting out of the car in a hurry. Ezra got out and chased after him. "Kane we know somethings going on. You have hickeys on your neck and Atlas said you fell this morning cause of your back," Ezra said. "We're not dating," Kane said again. "Is he hurting you," Ezra asked stopping him. "No," Kane replied. "So you're letting him do stuff to you," Ezra said letting him go. "Can we talk about this later we're late for class," Kane said embarrassed. "Alright, and I'm sorry. Me and Atlas just don't want you to get hurt," Ezra said. "It's alright Ezra. I um like Akito. I have since I met him," Kane stated. "Seriously dude then ask him out. I'm sure Akito will say yes," Ezra said. "What will I say yes to," Akito asked. "Ah nothing," Kane said embarrassed then ran away. "What just happened," Akito asked. "Nothing I was just picking on him," Ezra replied. "Alright," Akito said. "Where'd you go this morning," Ezra asked. "One of my snakes escaped and was terrorizing Kimberly," Akito said. "I forgot you had snakes," Ezra said. "Let's get to class then after all we're late," Akito said as he walked away. After their classes finished, Kane ended up riding with Akito as Ezra had left early to deal with Atlas.
