Chapter 1³

I run to the bus stop to go back home so I can get ready to meet my brother. As the bus arrives, I quickly get on and grab a seat. I try my hardest to control my tears but I just couldn’t, few tears started flow down my face as I thought of how pathetic I was running away from Yu-jun and the others when they just wanted me try some beer because I was the one who raced to buy it. I bury my face in my backpack, thinking of the embarrassing moment that just happened, but I reassure myself thinking that Yu-jun and the others would understand why I ran out. They know why I work as a part-time worker, they told me that when they’d get proper jobs they’d also help me out in my stressful situation, so I would never complain. I’m grateful that they let me be in their gang and understand me because no one else in my life ever thought of me after my life started to go downhill. The bus finally reaches my stop, and I get off, and I wipe my tears and notice that the lights of my house are on. I panic thinking I left them on the whole day, and I rush in, but as soon as I step in, I see my father sitting on the couch with bottles of alcohol surrounding him. I enter and say in a shock “Dad!? You came back after such a long time, welcome back! How are you?”. I am going to say this truthfully, I wasn’t really glad he came back, but at the same time I’m happy he’s alive and doing well. My father responds saying “Eun-woo is that you? What are you doing here!?” I say with a happy tone “Hello Dad! I just came back from college…” My dad interrupts me saying “No…you’re not real…there’s no way you’re alive!” I was taken aback by his words, but I wasn’t hurt because I realized he’s just drunk, and he’s acting strange again. “Yes dad it’s me” I respond in a calm way, knowing he’s not in his right mind. “No you’re not real!” He gets up from the couch and finally comes to the door, “Dad I’m real, I was just about to get ready to go and meet brother in the hos-”. I thought to bring dad to meet brother together, but to my surprise, he slaps me and says “No! Don’t bring up your dead brother…you’re just trying to make me feel guilty!” I hold my cheek in pain and try to respond back, but he comes closer and kicks my stomach, I run out of breath because of the pain and collapse. I try to stand back up and calm dad down, but I stumble back and bash my head onto the door. Dad says “Your just a piece of trash, worthless to me. Why do I need you when everyone else is gone!” I breathe heavily trying to get back my strength from the kick, but dad just grabs me and throws me over the couch, and I crash into a few of the bottles. I cry in pain, and dad comes over and says “If you want to be useful, just be the s**t you are and behave like one!” I became frozen hearing what dad said, I haven’t felt this flabbergasted in a long time.

Dad comes and hovers over me. He started to touch me, and I lost it and smacked his head. He collapses over me, I get up, and I lay dad on the couch so he can rest. I take all the bottles, clean up the shattered glass, and I treat my injuries. I took a shower, dressed up in something comfortable, and I headed over to the hospital to meet my brother. Before I left the house, I looked over to my dad, and I think about what he said to me again and finally close the door and head out. I took a bus to the hospital and on the way I recheck which day I have to get the money prepared. I sigh thinking about the dates and how many shifts I have to work, and how much money I have to prepare to pay Yu-jun back. I finally reach the hospital and run to my brother Su-jin’s room, and I enter, saying, “Hello nurse Min! Is my brother doing well?” Nurse Min turns around and says “Welcome Eun-woo, your brother was in a tough situation this morning, but he made it out well!”. “Oh thank goodness! Hi hyung, happy you’re doing well! Are you ready to hear what happened today? ” I giggle and I sit next to my brother ready to talk for hours, as Nurse Min leaves he says “I’ll call you when visiting hours are over.” “Okay Nurse Min! Hope you have great time ahead!” I say looking at Nurse Min cheerfully. Nurse Min leaves smiling at me.
