NARRATOR
Irina's father, stepmother, and sister were upset because they couldn't get close to her and still didn't know who she had married, preventing them from executing their plan to make her lose her baby. Their financial situation became more delicate each day, and they had to do something to secure Irina's inheritance. Little did they know that Steven, tired of listening to their schemes, had decided to find Irina and inform her about her family's plans, as well as apologize for how he treated her during their two years of marriage.
Unlike his wife and in-laws, he knew exactly where Irina was. He had discovered it a long time ago but never told Ines or her parents because he was aware of their plans and didn't want to be an accomplice. When he arrived at the Petróv mansion, the guards stopped him and asked for his name and who he was looking for. He indicated that he was looking for Irina and her husband. The guards detained him while they informed Dimitri, and if he gave the order, they would let him through; otherwise, he wouldn't be allowed near the entrance.
When the security personnel informed Dimitri, he was having breakfast with the rest of his family. He apologized discreetly and, with the guard's help, left the house. He knew about Irina and Steven's history, so he was cautious and distrusting. He had to make sure he wouldn't harm his wife or child.
"Why are you here? What do you want?" Dimitri immediately interrogated Steven with suspicion.
"Calm down, I haven't come to cause problems. I just want to warn you. Ines and her parents are looking for Irina and want to harm her and the baby," Steven expressed.
"And why are you telling us? Aren't you their accomplice? Why are you here?" Dimitri asked.
"Don't get confused. The only thing I'm guilty of is never having loved Irina. And while I may have treated her poorly at times, I would never harm her in such a way, let alone for money," Steven replied.
"I hope that's true. Because if I find out you're in cahoots with them to hurt my wife, you'll end up ruined just like them. So I recommend you stay away from those people if you don't want to end up on the streets with them or in my prison. It's up to you," Dimitri warned, still distrusting him.
"Don't worry. I'm just waiting for the birth of my child to be able to take them with me. You'll understand that I can't leave them with Ines and her family, but don't worry about me. I have nothing to do with what they're plotting, but I do know something. I'll warn them. I don't want Irina to suffer. She's a remarkable woman," Steven explained. Although Dimitri wasn't completely sure he could trust him yet, he was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
"I will take good care of her. She's my wife, and I won't allow anyone to harm her. If you keep me informed about all of Irina's family's plans, I'll help you move forward and obtain custody of your child. That way, you can protect him from the mother you chose," Dimitri expressed, feeling slightly more relaxed with Steven.
"I will. Even if you won't help me, if I find out something, I'll come and inform you. And tell Irina that I regret hurting her and not treating her well during our two years of marriage. But we both knew we couldn't love each other. We were always friends and nothing more," Steven said before leaving.
As Steven departed, Dimitri watched him go, unsure of how trustworthy he really was. Therefore, he asked his men to follow him everywhere, tracing every move to ensure that what he said was true and that he wasn't colluding with Irina's family. Once the order was given, his guards followed and began searching and tracking every trace, ensuring that he wasn't a threat to the lady of the house. If anything slipped past them, Dimitri would be willing to kill them if his wife was harmed or if anything happened to his child.
Irina found it strange that Dimitri left without saying anything. That's why she stood up and observed the men talking. Although she heard everything, she didn't want to talk to him. It was already a closed chapter in her life. She had forgiven him a long time ago. After all, neither of them wanted that marriage. It was their parents' decision, and they didn't have the courage to oppose it. Although he occasionally treated her cruelly and even slapped her, he never abused her in any other way. And the bad things he did under the influence of alcohol didn't justify it, but she didn't hate him for what he did either. After all, they had always been friends, and he had taken care of her as a child.
Although he was tired. Everything was a disaster. She still considered him a simple friend and nothing more.
Before Dimitri came in, she returned to the dining room with the others so that he wouldn't realize she had heard everything. He took her to the office and told her everything that had happened. And so, she confessed to him that she had overheard everything since he left. She followed him and heard it all. Dimitri couldn't get angry with her for testing him. She was simply curious and wanted to know what phase he was going through without her in the middle of breakfast. Thus, they both knew they trusted each other and would do everything to protect themselves and their love.
Meanwhile, Ines, on the other hand, remembered seeing Irina at the same clinic where she receives medical care for her pregnancy. So she decided to blackmail some nurses to find out the surname her sister now uses, as well as her address and phone number. All this information must be in her medical record, so it wouldn't be difficult for the nurses to access it with a little money. She could get her sister's address and phone number, so she sold some jewelry to be able to pay the nurses and obtain that information. She was ambitious, and all she wanted was to get rid of her sister in order to inherit her wealth, just like her father and mother. What she loved most in the world was money; she didn't care about others.
