Episode 13

NARRATOR

At dawn, everyone ate breakfast in silence. No one wanted to make Irina more nervous, knowing that she would have her hypnosis session that morning. For this reason, she was already tense, and everyone eagerly anticipated what might happen. After breakfast, Irina had a cup of tea and went to the office with Dmitry to relax a bit. They sat on the couch, embracing each other, while waiting for the psychologist. After what seemed like an eternity, the psychologist arrived.

"Good morning, are you ready to begin?" the psychologist asked.

"Yes, we are ready," Dmitry responded, and Irina nodded.

"Alright, Irina, I need you to get as comfortable as possible on the couch," the psychologist requested.

Dmitry got off the couch and returned to his chair. Irina settled herself on the couch as the psychologist had asked.

"Are you comfortable?" the psychologist asked. Irina nodded.

"Okay, now close your eyes and focus solely on the beats of the metronome. Don't think about anything else, just listen to the metronome," the psychologist instructed. Irina followed his instructions and gradually felt her body getting lighter, until she felt like she was floating on a cloud. After a few seconds, Dmitry became anxious, but the doctor gestured for him to remain silent.

"Irina, can you hear me?" the doctor asked.

"Yes," Irina responded, and Dmitry looked at her with anticipation, hoping she would continue speaking when she woke up.

"Irina, I want us to go back in time, specifically when you were three years old, on your last day with your mom. Do you remember?" the doctor asked.

"No, I...," Irina started to get nervous.

"Calm down, breathe. Everything is alright. I just want you to remember what you used to do with your mom early in the morning," the psychologist said. He had received the police report stating that Irina's mother had died at midnight.

"My mom woke me up with lots of kisses on my cheeks and prepared a warm bubble bath for me. It had lots of foam and rose petals," Irina said happily.

"Perfect, what happened after the bubble bath?" the doctor asked.

"My mom lifted me out of the tub and dried my body and hair. Then she dressed me in new clothes she had bought for my birthday," Irina answered.

"And then what happened? Where was your dad?" the psychologist asked.

"He was traveling, I rarely saw him. It was just me and mom," Irina continued.

"Well, what did you do after she dressed you up and fixed your hair?" the psychologist asked.

"She took me to the mall. After breakfast, we went to the movies and a park. We spent the whole day outside, ate at the nicest restaurants, and she even took me to the zoo," Irina continued responding, under the watchful eyes of Dmitry and the psychologist.

"What happened when you returned home?" the psychologist asked.

"I was tired, and when we got home, I was falling asleep in my mom's arms, so she carried me inside," Irina said.

"And then?" the doctor asked.

"She helped me put on my pajamas and combed my hair. Just as I was about to close my eyes, we heard a loud noise downstairs. Mom picked me up and ran out the door towards the stairs, then she rushed to her room, taking me with her," Irina explained.

"What happened in your mom's room, Irina?" the psychologist asked.

"No, no," Irina started to become desperate and cry.

"Irina, breathe, focus on the sounds of the metronome, and when I say so, open your eyes. One, two, and three, now," Irina opened her eyes in a fit of tears, and Dmitry embraced her tightly as she sobbed into his chest.

"Reaching the memory we're seeking will take more than one session. It's something that deeply affects her, and we can't accomplish it all today. It's better for her to rest, and we'll try again tomorrow. She's pregnant, and we can't put too much pressure on her," the doctor explained.

"Alright, doctor. Thank you," the psychologist packed up his things and left them embracing in the office.

Dmitry settled Irina on his lap, and as she continued to cry a little, he wheeled his chair to the elevator and took her to the room. Dmitry's family didn't ask any questions; they assumed they would talk with them when they were ready. In the room, Irina fell asleep on Dmitry's chest. Her mind was weary and in need of rest.

"You have a beautiful voice, and I know I will soon hear it every day," Dmitry comments, kissing his wife's forehead. He remains there, watching over her sleep, waiting for her to awake.

Meanwhile, Irina's sister, Ines, and her parents were desperate because they couldn't find Irina to make her have an abortion. Everything was perfectly planned to prevent her from having children so they could inherit the fortune, but the man they had sold Irina to betrayed them, and now they have no idea where she might be.

"Now what will we do, Father? If she doesn't show up and that bastard is born, she will keep the fortune that her stupid mother left her," Ines says angrily.

"Don't worry, we will find her, and soon that bastard will cease to exist. I don't know who she's living with or who she'll have a child with, but I will find her and beat that bastard out of her," Irina's father responds.

"I know you will, Father. She can't be a mother and keep our money," Ines adds.

"Don't worry about them, Father. I know very well how to keep Steve happy, and with the arrival of our baby, he is more attentive and gives me more gifts every day," Ines adds.

"I'm glad, daughter. Now go to your husband, I will take care of finding Irina, don't worry," her father replies.

"Alright, Dad, see you later," Ines bids her father goodbye, leaving happily, as her father would make sure Irina lost her child and they could enjoy their inheritance.

Little do they know, Irina is no longer alone, and she has a family that will defend her no matter what. And thanks to her slapping Steve in the hospital, he lost a crucial business deal. Although he doesn't know it was Ines who orchestrated it, he suspects someone did it on purpose.
