Episode 9

Irina:

Today, I decided to go to the gynecologist. I was nervous and afraid that I might not be able to have a child or have a condition that would prevent it. Martha accompanied me because I didn't want to tell Dmitry anything. I was terrified of having something wrong and him not wanting to be with me anymore.

"Don't worry, everything will be fine, ma'am," Martha tried to reassure me, but I was extremely anxious. I nodded to let her know not to worry about me.

We were not informed that the doctor would see us, and we entered the office. My hands were sweating, and it was Martha who spoke.

"Good morning, doctor. The lady cannot speak, but I will speak on her behalf. We are here because she is trying to have a child and wants to undergo an examination," Martha explained.

"Alright, first, go into that room. There's a gown on the examination table. Change into it, and I'll be with you shortly," said the doctor. I nodded and left Martha with her, filling out some forms with my information.

In the room, I changed and after a few minutes, the doctor entered.

"I will perform a transvaginal ultrasound to see how everything is," the doctor explained, and I nodded again.

I lay down on the examination table and positioned my legs as she instructed. An image appeared on the screen. I couldn't see anything, but she could.

"Everything looks great. In fact, you're three weeks pregnant," the doctor commented, and I looked at her with a smile on my face, seeking confirmation.

"Yes, look, this tiny dot is your baby. It's very small because it's only three weeks old," the doctor continued, and I felt so excited. I'm going to be a mother. If someone had told me this a month ago, I would have thought they were joking, but no. It's a fact. There is a little one in my womb, Dmitry and my child.

"Alright, we will conduct a series of tests to ensure everything is fine, as well as a physical examination," the doctor informed. And, of course, I agreed to everything because I want my baby to be born healthy and strong.

A nurse took some blood and urine samples, but the problem arose during the physical examination when the doctor noticed something on my arm.

"Were you using any contraceptive implant?" the doctor asked, and I denied.

"It's strange, this small scar is like that of an implant," she looked at the scar she was touching and palpated it.

"Are you sure you don't have an implant?" the doctor insisted, and I made it clear that I was sure, I had never had one.

"Can I try to remove it?" the doctor asked, and I nodded.

She carefully removed it, and it wasn't painful but uncomfortable. When she took it out, indeed, it was a contraceptive implant.

"This implant has reached the end of its lifespan, which is why you are pregnant. Are you sure you never had it inserted?" the doctor insisted, and I searched for my phone.

"No, I have never visited a gynecologist before, this is my first time. I don't know how that ended up in my arm," I replied via my phone. And yes, there is a day, two years ago, erased from my memory, I don't remember it. It was a day before my wedding, and if my arm was hurting, I didn't pay attention. I assumed I bumped into something and didn't realize it.

"Well, the important thing is that you are expecting a baby. Get changed, and they are waiting for you to give you your vitamins. Everything is fine with you and your baby," said the doctor, then she left. I still had the question of how that implant ended up in my arm, but I changed my clothes anyway and went to the waiting room with Martha, who embraced me happily.

"The gentleman will be happy with this news. Congratulations," Martha said, and I thanked her.

"These are the vitamins you should take and the instructions. We will see you next month, but now as your obstetrician," said the doctor. Martha and I expressed our gratitude and left the office. I was happy with the ultrasound report in my hands until I bumped into someone. It was none other than Ines, and I dropped the report from my hand.

"What are you doing here, you stupid mute?" she grabbed the report and began reading it.

"This is impossible, you cannot have children. Dad took care of it. Besides, you are married to an old paralyzed man who cannot have children. He can only cause you pain. You were unfaithful, you damn whore. It's surely for the inheritance, but you will never have it." She lunged at me and I was so confused by her words that I couldn't dodge the slap she gave me. Before she could hit me again, the guards restrained them, but I lost my balance and fell to the floor. I didn't feel any pain, but Martha rushed to get the doctor, who called for a stretcher to have me checked again.

"Do you feel any pain?" the doctor asked, and I shook my head.

"Falls can be very dangerous in your condition, you must be careful or you could lose it." The doctor checked my blood pressure and it was slightly high.

"We're going to take you to a room so you can rest for a while, I'll give you a medication to help you relax, and after resting, you can leave." said the doctor.

After giving me the medication, the doctor took me with a nurse to a room. I rested for a moment and held onto my belly the entire time. I was afraid of losing the baby after the fall. I slept for a while, and when I woke up, there was Dmitry. He already knew about my pregnancy. He kissed my belly and hugged me. I felt so good in his arms that I didn't want him to let go. He promised to always keep us safe, and I trust him.

When we returned home, Martha prepared a lot of food for us. She says I need to eat well for the baby. After that, my dear husband got a bit playful in bed, but not too much. He didn't want to hurt the baby. I told him about my sister and what happened. He promised to investigate everything.

After that day at the mansion, everyone treated me with extreme caution, as if they were afraid I would break, even Dmitry. I completed two months of pregnancy, and at work, Dmitry wouldn't let me get up from my chair. I had someone doing everything for me. I just focused on drafting the documents. But I think he's exaggerating. I'm pregnant, not sick.

Now I've considered hypnosis. I think I will do it. I want to be able to talk to my baby, sing them a lullaby to sleep. I mentioned it to Dmitry today. He supports me, and we will do it this weekend. The psychologist will come to the mansion for it. I'm scared to remember, I won't deny it, but I believe it's time to go back to the past to have a future.
