Episode 20

LEILA

Following a night where Alek treated me as if I were a dessert, he brought me to the beach the next day. The place was stunning, and although I'm not one to express much, there truly wasn't anything wrong with the beach house. It was entirely secluded; there were no neighbors around because Alek had bought all the nearby properties and built his mansion in the midst of them. You could only breathe in the pure, calm air there. I think it would be a suitable spot to spend an extended period, but only after I finish what I've already started. Upon arriving, Alek didn't let me rest. He claimed me on the beach, in the pool, and in the jacuzzi. He no longer accepts my refusals when it's time to bathe – he simply enters and won't take no for an answer. He takes advantage because he's two meters tall and very strong; he knows that even if I try to push him away, I can't budge him out of the bathroom.

We've been here for a day and a half now, and I'm resting in the room since Alek had to deal with some matters. We'll return to our routine in the morning, but curiosity got the better of me, and I've managed to tap into the Villareal's offices, so I decided to check in. Mr. Villareal is speaking with Leo.

"Do you have an idea of what Mr. Smith wants?" asked Leo to Arthur.

"I don't know, son, but whatever it is, I won't let him cancel that engagement. I told you that if you wanted her as your wife, you'd have her, regardless of the cost," Arthur said, his arrogance nauseating.

"This is all Leila's fault. Why does she have to turn up again to ruin my life? Since she was born, she's been nothing but a nuisance," hearing my brother say this ignites a fury within me, but he'll soon see who the real nuisance is.

"She's dead," Mr. Villareal spoke, and I looked on in surprise.

"Really?" asked Leo.

"Yes. In Russia, they found her body. She died a month ago from an overdose. I've got the death certificate, and the DNA of the body matches hers. Moreover, the boarding school where she stayed has shut down, and its staff have vanished. Someone else is behind all this," hearing Mr. Villareal made it unbelievable, but for some reason, I'm certain this is all Alek's doing.

"Then who's after us if she's no longer here?" questioned Leo.

"I don't know, but you'll see tomorrow when I talk to your future father-in-law. There's no way that girl will escape marrying you. She loves you, and her father will do everything to see her happy," said Arthur.

"I hope so, father. Now I'm going to fetch her, take her out to eat, and keep her satisfied. I don't want her being persuaded by her father to cancel the engagement," Leo announced.

"Go on, that won't happen," Arthur assured him.

They parted ways, and Leo left. I turned off the computer because that revolting old man called his secretary in and began having his way with her in the office; that video will see the light of day in the future, not now. I closed my eyes for a moment until strong arms enveloped me, and I didn't need to open them to know who it was.

"What did you do with those from the boarding school, and why do they believe I died of an overdose in Russia?" I asked upon opening my eyes.

"I told you I wouldn't interfere with your revenge against the Villareals, but I never said I'd let them find you or let the boarding school stay operational. Your father was searching for you, so I did everything to ensure he wouldn't find you. And the people from the boarding school? They're fine – they were released this morning. After weeks of bread and oatmeal and nights in a hole, aside from a beating with a wooden rod, they're alright," Alek explained.

For some reason, moved by an impulse, I left a chaste kiss on his lips and clung to his chest tightly. He had offered me protection like no one else ever had. I hope he's different – I don't want the past to repeat itself; I don't want him to betray me like my brother did. I can't go through that again.

"Relax, I'll never betray you, and I'll always be here, my warrior," he whispered. Without saying a word, I stayed wrapped in his arms while he soothed my back.

As I slowly relaxed, I drifted off into a deep sleep. I've never been one to have dreams or nightmares, but as I fell asleep, my life's events began to surface in my dreams – begging my mother not to go through with the abortion, finding her lifeless on her bed. Apparently, I was crying and yelling in my sleep because Alek woke me and held me tighter.

"Easy, it was just a nightmare; I'm here," he said, holding me as I gasped for air, sweating and confused about what was happening. I hadn't had nightmares during my time in the boarding school, so why now?

Alek didn't want to leave me alone in the room because I was nervous, so he carried me in his arms to the kitchen. He sat me down on a chair in front of the island and made me a cup of tea. I said nothing, just drank the tea under his watchful gaze.

"Are you okay?" inquired Alek.

"Yes, I don't know what happened to me. I hope it doesn't happen again," I replied.

"It's probably because you're out of that place now, and today we discussed them. Maybe your mind played a nasty trick on you," he suggested.

"That must be it. I'm tired and want to rest," I said.

"Let's go to the bedroom," he offered, but this time I walked by myself even though he meant to carry me again. I didn't let him.

I got into bed and turned my back to him, but he wrapped his arms around my waist and held on to me.

"I'll never leave you alone. Remember that," he murmured. I didn't respond; I simply let him hold me. Gradually, I drifted back to sleep. This time, without any nightmares.
