Episode 11

LEILA

Alek Romanov proposed to me, and happily, we're getting married in a month. So far, everything is going according to plan except for the tedious wedding preparations. I had to act convincingly in front of Alek's mother and grandmother, but thankfully, I wasn't alone. Katya has been my shadow this past month, aiding me with choices of dresses, hairstyling, the banquet, and decorations. With her passion for all things cheesy, I let her make most of the decisions. While Alek’s mother and grandmother believe it was all my doing, it wasn’t. During this time, the only day I saw Alek was the day after Katya's party, when he personally delivered my new phone so I could keep in touch with his family, along with a black credit card with no spending limit. It turns out Alek is quite generous, though even if I bought an entire mall, I’d barely dent his wealth, so he has no cause for concern.

"Friend, aren't you nervous about the wedding night? They say the first time hurts," said Katya.

"I don't think it'll be as painful as they make it out to be. If it were, people would avoid it altogether and nobody would have children," I replied, glancing at my computer.

"That's a valid point, but aren’t you afraid Alek might not be gentle with you?" Katya continued.

"No, I'm confident he’ll be a gentleman, or else I might just break his leg," I retorted, still focused on my computer, not understanding Katya’s fascination with my wedding night, which seemed to intrigue her more than me.

"What are you so busy with? We should start getting you ready; the wedding is in two hours," Katya said.

"Just confirming the whereabouts of Mr. Villarreal and my brother. And since I'm feeling generous today, I sent a gift to Mrs. Villarreal. But I’m done now; you can start on the makeup," I answered and shut the computer to sit in front of Katya for her to begin my makeup.

"What gift did you send to that lady?" Katya asked as she did my makeup.

"A video of her husband with another woman," I replied nonchalantly.

"And what do you think she'll do?" inquired Katya.

"Nothing. She’s grown accustomed to his infidelity. Do you think my mother was his only affair? The man has numerous liaisons, and they'll all become public soon enough. I'm curious how long Mrs. Villarreal will tolerate it. I’ll send her videos of her husband with various mistresses every day until there are none left. If she doesn't react and take any action, the media will. Once I arrive in New York, if she hasn’t divorced him, I’ll send the videos to the press. I’m giving her the chance to walk away from that man before I bring him down," I explained.

Katya stayed silent, focusing on my makeup and hair. We're now in a hotel room; the reception will be held in the most exclusive hall of the most exclusive hotel. Alek’s whole family will be there – his uncles, cousins, grandparents, and, of course, his parents. Only Katya and her grandparents will be accompanying me; her grandfather will walk me down the aisle set up in the middle of the hall.

"You look beautiful. Now let’s get you into that dress," said Katya as she took out the gown, which seemed overly frilly to my taste, but that’s the consequence of letting Katya choose for me.

I felt a bit off in the dress, although it fit well—it just wasn’t me. However, I have to play my part convincingly.

"You need to smile more in front of everyone," advised Katya.

"I know; I need to appear in love. Don't worry, I can act. What I'm actually feeling now is anxiety. I can't wait to be in New York to see the Villarreals fall. I want to witness their suffering as they lose everything," I shared, staring out the window of the room.

"You scare me when you talk like that. I don’t want you to get hurt in all this," Katya expressed with concern.

"They can't hurt me anymore. They’ve done all they could to harm me; I have nothing left to lose," I responded.

"Is it time? Are you ready?" We heard Katya's grandfather's voice at the door.

"Yes, we're ready," I replied confidently.

Katya let her grandfather in, and he extended his arm to escort me to the altar. I knew Katya believed in love, but I didn't. I never experienced it in my life. The only genuine affection I felt was for my brother, but that died when he betrayed me. Now it was time for my revenge. In two weeks, I will be in New York and I will take revenge on all those who caused me so much pain.

"Ready, beauty?" asked Katya's grandfather as we reached the grand hall's door, hidden behind a lush red curtain.

"Yes, I am," I replied, offering my best smile, which I maintained as we proceeded down the aisle.

I have to admit, my soon-to-be husband is quite handsome; not many can boast of a spouse as attractive as Alek. However, what interests me least now is a man's looks. My goal is clear, and I don't want any distractions. I have a year to avenge the Villarreals and then bear Alek a child. My conditions were explicit: he would never mistreat our child nor separate them from me. We've put it down in writing, but that is for a year from now, once my revenge is complete.

"You look beautiful," Alek commented as he met me at the altar.

"Thank you. You look very handsome too," I responded.

We both took our places before the priest, and after a few minutes, the ceremony concluded with our mutual 'I do's, leading us to the moment of the kiss. Alek seemed to enjoy it more than I did, barely letting me breathe, but the deed was done—I was officially his wife, though our civil marriage was already registered that morning. Nonetheless, his family preferred religious ceremonies, which were the ones that truly mattered to them.

During the celebration, I had to dance with Alek's cousins, which was almost unbearable. Within five minutes, I seriously considered turning homicidal.

"Ready for our wedding night? It's time to leave," Alek whispered in my ear, and honestly, I wasn't sure if I was ready or not, but I had agreed to fulfill my wifely duties and even consulted a gynecologist to avoid conceiving for a year, so there was nothing left to do but to face my decisions.

"Yes, I'm ready," I stated assuredly, and he took my hand. We left the beautiful party as everyone showered us with rose petals. How overly sentimental.
