“I can understand what the snake is saying” I said more to myself than to Lilith.
“You what?” Lilith asked in pure shock now forgetting her fear of the snake.
“Who are you?” I asked the snake and I think I saw empathy in its eyes.
*I am a soul beast, your soul beast* the snake answered, still full of empathy.
*I am also sorry that I called you when you were younger. I just felt that you were the one I was meant to serve*
*it's okay. You were properly also just drawn to me* I thought to myself but somehow the snake understood because it nodded and still looked sorry.
When Lilith had calmed dawn and wasn’t so afraid of the giant snake before us, she said “So does it have a name or something”
*Why didn’t I think of that? *
“What is your name” I asked but at that moment I somehow knew that it didn’t have one. Then the snake said “a soul beats is like a pet. The owner has to choose a name for the pet to make their bond official.
When) I had told Lilith that I had to come up with a name for the snake we had sat down on some crystal-like stones and the snake looked like it would fall asleep, but it just kept its eyes open.
“Enola, Ruby or what about Holly?” Lilith kept asking, trying to find a name for the snake.
“No, it just doesn’t fit”
“Then you try to come up with something” Lilith looked tired of being the one to come up with names. I can’t really blame her; I haven’t come up with anything. I turned to look at the snake and the snake looking back at me suddenly hit me.
“Sari” I said
“Sari?” Lilith asked with disbelief. She had clearly given up now.
“Yes, Sari means *Different* and the snake here looks different than other snakes”
*From now on your name is Sari* I thought in my head and the snake answered with a nod.
“So, what do we do now? Do we just go back to the slum or what?” Lilith asked sounding bored and a little worried about the other kids that we kind of just left wounded back in the slum after that fire.
“Maybe we should go back, I mean some of them are probably still wounded”
*NO* the snakes thoughts rang as loud in my head as a crying and suffocating newborn baby and I would know that sound because of living among the other kids and they having to take care of their newborn baby siblings since their mother either died doing birth or just didn’t want them.
“I can’t leave her” it just didn’t feel right to leave Sari now that I have met her. I felt like I was supposed to stay with her.
“Well then, I guess I will be going back alone” she was clearly disappointed. But I want to stay so badly. Lilith turned around. “Lilith...wait” *Sari I want to at least follow her back* Sari’s scales were glistering in the dark and suddenly the dark cave was filled with a radiant glow. It was so powerful that when the light disappeared it made me, and Lilith look at where the snake once was and then at each other. We were filled with confusion. Where could such a giant possibly go? “Miria?” Lilith pointed at me. I didn’t understand what she meant but I felt like my moves were restrained a little by something wrapped around me. That’s when I turned my head and saw sari wrapped around my body. But she was smaller now. And I must say she looked ADORABLE in this form. *I will let you follow her back on the condition that I come with you and when your done with her we go back here so I can train you* “Lilith will you let me walk you back to the first layer?”
