chapter 5:The Water Source

The group was running low on water, and Alex knew they had to find a new source soon. They decided to explore a nearby office building, hoping to find a potential water source. As they approached the building, they saw that it was surrounded by a makeshift wall made of scrap metal and rubble. It was clear that someone had barricaded themselves inside.

Alex signaled for the group to spread out and be on high alert. They cautiously approached the building, looking for any signs of danger. As they got closer, they heard movement inside. Alex signaled for them to stop, and they waited in silence, listening for any further sounds.

Suddenly, a voice boomed from inside the building, "Who goes there?"

Alex stepped forward, holding up his hands to show that he was unarmed. "We're just looking for some water," he called out.

There was a pause, and then the voice replied, "Water is a valuable commodity these days. What do you have to offer in exchange?"

Alex and the others exchanged nervous glances. They didn't have much to offer, and they knew that negotiations could turn sour quickly. "We have some food and medical supplies," Alex said, hoping it would be enough.

There was another pause, and then the voice replied, "Bring them to the gate."

Alex signaled for the others to follow him, and they approached the barricade cautiously. As they got closer, they saw that there were several armed guards stationed at the gate. They held up their supplies, and one of the guards came forward to inspect them.

After a tense few moments, the guard nodded and signaled for them to enter. The group cautiously made their way inside the building, keeping a wary eye on the guards. They saw that the inside of the building had been converted into a makeshift living space, with tents and sleeping bags scattered throughout.

One of the guards led them to a basement, where they found rows of water bottles. "This is all we have left," the guard said. "Take what you need, but leave some for us."

Alex nodded and signaled for the others to start gathering the water bottles. As they worked, they heard a commotion outside. They looked at each other nervously, realizing that they could be in trouble.

Suddenly, the door burst open, and a group of Infected rushed inside. The guards and the group worked together to fight them off, but they were outnumbered. Alex saw that they were trapped, and he knew that they had to get out fast.

"Back to the gate!" he shouted, and the group made a run for it. They fought off Infected as they ran, but they could hear more coming. As they got closer to the gate, they saw that it was sealed shut.

"We're trapped!" one of the group shouted.

Alex looked around frantically, trying to find a way out. And then he saw it. A small window on the side of the building. It was their only hope.

"Follow me!" he shouted, and he sprinted towards the window. The others followed, jumping out of the window and landing hard on the ground below.

They could hear the Infected howling behind them as they ran, but they didn't stop until they were safely back at their base. They had their water, but they knew that they had made some enemies in the process.
