City A
Outside Yoshio’s school.
Everyone was eyeing the luxury car parked right in front of the school. The chauffeur wearing his black suit, hat, and white gloves. He stood perfectly still next to the next to the rear passenger door waiting to Yoshio to come out of the school.
“Bye Yoshio,” Ming waved at him and said goodbye like she did everyday after school. Her brother took her hand and they began walking in the direction of their home.
“Bye Ming!” Yoshio yelled and waved at her.
“Young master, please this way,” Ishiro said opening the door to the car.
“Hi Mr. Ishiro,” Yoshio greeted the driver as he climbed into the car.
“Hello young master,” Ishiro bowed and closed the door.
“I wonder who’s wealthy son that is attending such a humble school,” one women said to her friend.
“I don’t know,” the woman responded.
“That’s no wealthy man’s son. It’s that bastard little boy. That your niece Ming Has taken a fancy to hanging out with.” The third woman said spitting on the ground after she was done speaking.
“Maybe his mom won the lottery,” Ming’s aunt said with a smile.
“Don’t speak nonsense,” third woman said as the car drove away.
“How was school today, young master?” Ishiro asked.
“Why do you call me young master. My name is Yoshio,” Yoshio said looking confused.
“Because it’s what I’m suppose to call you.” Ishiro explained.
“Why?” Yoshio asked.
“Because you are above me,” Ishiro answered.
“But you’re taller and older than me. Mr. Ishiro,” Yoshio explained.
“Would you like best if I called you Yoshio; instead of young master?” Ishiro asked.
“Yes, I want to be Yoshio!” He yelled throwing up his hands in the air.
“Then I will call you Yoshio,” Ishiro said.
“Yeah, thank you. School was fun today. We had a test and I played with my friend Ming after lunch today.” Yoshio went on about all the things he did at school; as Ishiro drove and listened attentively.
When they got to the construction site. Ishiro helped Yoshio out of the car.
“This is for you,” Ishiro handed Yoshio a bento.
“Thank you,” Yoshio jumped up and hugged Ishiro catching him off guard.
“Your Welcome. I will see you tomorrow,” Ishiro bowed and Yoshio did the same.
Ishiro watched Yoshio run happily over to the little bench off to the side.
He smiled and got back in the car and drove to the company’s underground parking garage.
Lobby of the Yamada group.
“Good afternoon Madam Yamada,” The receptionist bowed as she walked past them in a huff.
“I don’t know what’s so good about it. Come and get the elevator for me or I’m I supposed to get it for myself.” She spat as one of the receptionist rushed around. She girl ran ahead of Madam Yamada and pushed the buttons to open the VIP elevator.
“Madam,” the girl said bowing as the elevator door opened.
“I’ll ask why you are still employed here as well,” Madam Yamada said as the elevator door closed. The girl stood wide eyed.
“What’s wrong?” The other receptionist asked as she made her way back to the desk.
“I think she’s going to get me fired for sure this time,” the young girl broke down in tears behind the desk. She slid down to the floor and hugged her knees.
“You won’t be. Remember old master Yamada and master Yamada said this will not happen. You must trust their words,” the other girl said trying to console her coworker.
Yoshio’s office.
“I got the report...” Assistant Li stopped talking as the door slammed opened.
“How could you treat Sora like that today!” Yoshio’s mom barged into the office. The moment Yoshio was dreading for had arrived. His mom’s face was red and she was fuming.
“What are you talking about?” Yoshio asked and sat back in his chair. He would pretend not to what his mother was talking about.
“To faint ignorance with me,” she got closer to where they were working.
“I wouldn’t dare do such a thing to you mother. What I have a done to upset you and your woman,” Yoshio chuckled a bit at what he said.
“She is your fiancé and you need to protect her from being bullied!” His mom yelled and looked at Assistant Li.
“First she’s not my fiancé and second I cannot protect her from being bullied when she is the one bullying my people,” Yoshio said leaning forward in his chair and linking his fingers together like a pyramid under his chin.
“How dare you say such a thing. You will marry Sora as I wish it and you need to get a make Assistant this woman is seducing you into being neglectful to your fiancé,” his mother said slamming her purse down on the table. Yoshio began laughing uncontrollably.
“How dare you laugh at me. I give you life and this is how you repay me. With laughter!” She yelled and slammed her fist on the desk. Yoshio stopped laughing and addressed his mother.
“I would never laugh at the life you gave. However, it was I who asked Sora to leave and Assistant Li is the best assistant I will not fire here because Sora doesn’t know her boundaries. Since you think something is happening between us because Sora is very inventive with her lies. Assistant Li is married,” Yoshio explained and Assistant Li blushed. That was a secret between her and Yoshio. He had promised not to reveal it but the situation called for the spilling of secrets.
“I don’t believe your words,” His mom negated the information as a lie.
“Assistant Li,” Yoshio said looking at her. She picked her purse up off the sofa and opened it.
“Madam,” Assistant Li bowed holding out the marriage license to Yoshio’s mom. She snatched the documents from Assistant Li and frantically opened it to the important page.
There it was a picture of Assistant Li and her husband. Handsome well dressed American looking white man.
“I still want her and the receptionist downstairs fired!” She said throwing the marriage license as Assistant Li.
“No,” Yoshio’s voice was firm and decisive.
“You must satisfy my request,” she said looking into her sons eyes.
“No, we have a very satisfying agreement already. Father and I make the money and you sit around spending the money. Now if there’s nothing else. We have a lot of work to before we leave tonight. Assistant Li,” Yoshio said and she walked to the door and opened it.
“You ungrateful boy,” she said and stormed out the door. She was gone but Yoshio knew it wasn’t over. His mother was like an elephant when it came to her rage, she had a long memory for it. Assistant Li bowed and closed the door behind Madam Yamada as she left.
“I’m sorry for all the trouble today.” Assistant Li said bowing to him.
“I’m the one who should be sorry. I spilled our secret,” Yoshio stood up and bowed to apologize to his assistant.
“It’s alright sir, his family is actually starting to accept me these days,” Assistant Li said with a smile as she put the marriage license back into her purse.
She had gotten married to an American lawyer who moved to City A for work some time ago. They love each other very much but his family was not in love with the idea of Assistant Li as the wife. They wanted his son to marry someone similar to him in all ways.
“That’s good,” Yoshio smiled and sat back down. He remembered how sad she would come in to work after they were just married. He was happy that things were going well.
“Where were we?” Yoshio picked up the stack of papers on the counter.
