City A
Three years later
Elizabeth looked at Yoshio as put on his shoes. He had grown so much in five years. He was tall for his age and was healthy. He’d also gotten darker over the years. His curly hair had really grown in and had to be kept short to prevent tangling and tears. She couldn’t remember the man she had slept all those years ago anymore. The sound of his voice and the look on his face was all but a forgotten memory. The only constant memory of his was his shirt. Yoshio has taken a picture with it on every year since he discovered it’s existence.
“I’m ready!” Yoshio announces with both hands straight up in the air. His smile from ear to ear made Elizabeth happy. She was succeeding in making him a happy and loved child.
“You look ready. First grade my baby is grown up,” she said rubbing his head. He was smart too, he skipped the kindergarten and moved straight to first grade. It would have been second grade but the teacher wanted to him to have exposure to other children. ‘ he needs the socialization,’ she remembered the teachers words. Yoshio didn’t have any friends, he would always keep to himself and hardly speak to the other children.
She thought back at the day she took him for his test. There were lots of other children on the playground.
‘ he can play with the other children while you fill out the paperwork,’ the teacher explained. Yoshio bounced over to the playground with great excitement. There were not very many kids in the neighborhood they lived in and he spent a lot of time inside reading.
After filling of the papers she return to find Yoshio sitting under a tree all by himself and the other children happily playing.
‘Why are you sitting alone? Did the other kids bully you?’ She asked as she sat down beside him.
‘No I was not bullied. I was done playing and wanted to cool off in the shade,’ he answered with a smile and wrapped his arms around her waist. She hugged him back tightly.
“I’m still Mommy’s baby,” he looked up at her and smiled.
“Really?” She asked him. He mined his head ‘yes’ happily.
“And I’m mommy’s helper,” handed her her work helmet and her work boots.
“Thank you very much, let’s go before we miss the train.” She opened the door and he went out.
City A
Yamada group
“Sir you have meeting at 10am this morning with Mr. Clines from the American investment group and then you have an early dinner meeting at 4pm with your father and the Takada mall CEO about the rental of the land in city R...” Assistant Li stopped talking and looked at Yoshio. He had photograph in his hands again. Every year on the same date he would look at the photo. Assistant Li closed the agenda and she looked at her boss. He was handsome and kind and very intelligent but this thing he was doing to his self was not intelligent.
“Sir ,” Assistant Li said.
“Yes, I’m listening,” Yoshio said looking up from the photograph.
“Sir we both now that’s not true. Why do you torture yourself like this. That was a small moment in your life and it consumes you.” Assistant Li said sitting down. She had been his assistant for the last five years. He was capable and qualified but he was still lost in a fantasy world.
“I don’t know. I just feel a connection to her.” He said running his fingers over the photo.
“You only met her once. You can’t possibly have a connection with her.” Li said.
“ it was the first time I had been with a woman and what luck for me it was my dream girl. Then I woke up and she was gone; along with my shirt.” Yoshio said with a smile on his face.
He thought back to what he could remember of that night. His mom told him to pick Sora up from the Lotus hotel bar. She had been with some friends and they had left without her. Reluctantly he went to play chauffeur for that spoiled brat. When he got there she was at the bar.
“Can we go I have something else on,” He didn’t even look at her.
“Don’t be like that. Have a drink with me before we go,” she pushed a cup cup of a red wine over to him.
“Fine then we’re going,” he gulped it down with much thought. It tasted horrible, he thought that the wine must have gone bad.
“Bartender, this wine has turned it taste horrid.” He mentioned putting the cup down.
“Okay let’s go,” he got up and his began to spin.
“Are you okay?” Sora asked putting a hand on his shoulder.
“Yeah just a bit dizzy,” Yoshio said stumbling back a bit.
“You should take a rest. I have a room upstairs. I’ll get the key from the front desk wait here,” Sora said helping him back into the chair.
Yoshio had an idea of what was going to happen. He got up from the chair and started walking. He had to get somewhere and hide and from Sora until the drug wore off. He was having trouble seeing where he was going. Finally he fell into an open door and looked it behind him.
He bumped into some hard.
“Should a turn on a light for you?” It was a girls voice but it wasn’t Sora. Where was his, he rubbed his eyes trying to see clearly. He walked closer to the person.
She had two long cornrows going down her back. She had full lips and big eyes. He reached out and touched her face.
“ your skin is soft and it’s the color of toast. I love toast,” Yoshio said and kissed her lips. She didn’t push him away or try to run.
“Let me **** **** to you okay,” he said kissing her again before she could even offer an answer. It was his first time with a girl like this. He pulled on his tie trying to undo it but he couldn’t.
“Let me help you,” she reached up and took of his tie and unbutton his shirt. Yoshio took of the shirt and tossed it on the floor with the tie. She touched his chest her hands were cold, she was scared. He put his hand over her hand and moved it over his heart.
“I’m scared too,” his heart was beating so hard he could hear it inside his chest.
“I won’t hurt you don’t be scared,” he assured her and kissed her once more. He tried to pick her her but he couldn’t his head was spinning too much. She took his hand and led him to the bed.
She sat down beside him, he could hear her taking a deep breath. He held her face and kissed her neck.
“We can stop if you want too?” He whispered in her ear.
“We don’t have to stop,” she said her voice shaky.
“I was having trouble getting her dress of and I ripped it off, that was bad. The following morning she was gone and I didn’t have a shirt.” Yoshio said leaning back in his chair with a frown on his face.
“ she’s probably married and thinks of the whole thing as a nightmare,” Li said looking firmly at her boss. He needed to let go of this dream.
“You think so?” Yoshio asked his voice filled with sorrow as he looked at the photo.
“If she wanted to be with you she would have come looking for you. She hasn’t,” Li reached out and took the photo from him. Yoshio just looked at her he didn’t make a move to take it from her. Assistant Li looked at the picture really well for the first time. It was Yoshio sleeping and the girls head was resting on his chest. She had a very prominent birthmark on her back.
“It kinda looks like a heart,” she put the picture down on the desk and pointed at the birthmark.
“Yes, but I’m not able to find her from this,” Yoshio said taking the picture in his hand.
“Maybe forget about it and move on,” Li said smiling at her boss. She felt really bad for him.
“ I’ll try,” he put the picture back in his desk drawer. It was the only place he could keep it. If it was at his house and his mom should happen to find it she would dispose of it. The only thing his mom was interested in was the imaginary relationship between him and Sora.
“Sir if it’s meant to be it will happen,” Li said to him and he smiled at her. She didn’t want to crush him completely.
