Scott shakes his head and then walks towards the trash can, tossing the bloodied cloth.
"What's happening to you, Scott? Talk to me!" Miguel demands, seeing that his friend refuses to say anything.
"You know perfectly well that I don't owe you any explanations about my personal life, Miguel. Now, what did you come here for? How do you see the girl?"
Miguel closes and opens his eyes, trying to suppress his anger, as Scott is usually like this, abrupt.
"Scared, Scott. How else would she be?" sarcastically responds Miguel. Scott turns to look at him and approaches his friend with steady steps and a piercing gaze.
"How dare you talk to me like that?" Scott asks arrogantly.
"I'm angry, I want to know what's wrong with you. But you never speak. You're always like this. You can't carry your burdens alone all the time," Miguel fearlessly speaks.
"I carry my own cross, and now you act like one too. I don't want to hear you speak to me like that again, Miguel. Is that girl enough for you?" Scott turns around and walks towards the brown leather armchair.
"Yes!" Miguel sighs, having no choice but to let his guard down and sit in front of his friend. "She even asked about you initially, thought I was the husband. After clarifying the situation, I told her I couldn't answer that."
Scott Hamilton looks at his mobile phone and then says, "I need you to go to Hamilton Finance," he orders.
"And what do you want me to do?"
"I need you to get this week's accounting done."
"Does it have to be today?" Miguel asks, tired and hoping he can finally rest a bit.
"Today!" Scott stands up. "By the way, next time you want to talk about my life to someone, make sure that person doesn't have such a loose tongue."
Miguel swallows. "I'm sorry, my friend. I'm just worried. You never speak, you never say anything, and I care about you like a brother."
Scott stops and with his back to Miguel, he says, "That's precisely why I don't speak."
Scott leaves, exiting the penthouse.
Inside his Ferrari, Scott takes out a pillbox and swallows two pills without water. Then he looks at himself in the rearview mirror, furious, and punches the steering wheel with great force. He feels overwhelmed. "Damn my life! Damn this fucking disease!" Scott puts his hands on his head and then drives aimlessly until nightfall, although his bodyguards have been following him from a distance, as Hamilton, such a wealthy man, cannot be without escorts, having already experienced failed attempts of robbery and kidnapping.
.
"Cappuccino, I'm hungry. Mr. Hamilton said I could do whatever I wanted, and I can't take it anymore. Besides, I don't have your food, Cappuccino. Although there's only enough left for you to eat tonight, I won't let you starve, my little friend. I'll take you out of the cage, but please, Cappuccino, don't go far. You have to stay here alone and not cause any trouble, please."
Nicol carefully takes the hamster out and then looks at the kitchen, sighing. When she opens the pantry, it is fully stocked, with everything she could imagine, and she has never seen so much food in her life.
She had never eaten salmon before, so she decides to prepare it with vegetables because Nicol prefers to eat healthy.
However, she can't relax, as fear still lingers.
When the dinner is finally ready, she brings everything to the table, with Cappuccino by her side. Nicol stands up, her face pale, and her heart racing as she hears a car approaching.
"Someone's here, Cappuccino. Come," she says, grabbing her hamster and keeping him in the cage, hiding it behind the kitchen counter. "Don't make any noise, please."
Nicol swallows and waits. When she sees the door opening, she immediately lowers her gaze, only looking at the wooden table, her heart pounding.
The door slammed shut, and she closed her eyes. When she no longer heard any footsteps, she slowly raised her gaze. She could see the man's perfectly polished shoes, his brand-new suit, and his impeccably matched tie. Not to mention his cologne. She swallowed hard. Then her eyes fixated on the man's well-groomed beard, his lips neither too thick nor too thin - perfect. And his nose. Unconsciously, her mouth fell open in astonishment as she took in the sight of this man. When she finally lifted her gaze higher, her eyes widened at the intense honey-colored eyes with golden flecks.
She was unable to say anything; the words felt stuck. But Scott Hamilton, who could now see her for who she truly was, couldn't help but ask:
"Is your hair natural?"
Her heart felt like it was about to burst as she nodded her head. Scott had only ever known women with dyed hair.
He took a few more steps towards Nicol until they were face to face. She could hear her own intense breathing, causing her to swallow hard again.
"Will you be eating alone?" he asked, and she remembered what Miguel had told her - always make more.
"No, sir. If you'd like, you can sit and eat with me. I can serve you right away," she replied, extremely nervous, still mesmerized by this man who was now her husband. She had never in her life seen such a handsome man.
"If I arrive at mealtime, you must serve without asking," he said sternly, never taking his eyes off her.
Terrified, she turned around to walk into the kitchen, but tripped and fell. However, Scott caught her in his arms.
