Brother
My mind still wanders in the dark void of nothingness, as if light had never existed. The emptiness and silence of this endless hollow plain makes my mind nostalgic.
My senses came back after feeling a warm, soft cloth on my forehead as it radiates throughout my body. I can only assume I'm on a bed, judging from the pillows and blankets behind me. I sat on the bed, still dizzy, while having a hazy vision after opening my eyes. It's like I've been sleeping for a month! My back hurts as well as the wound on my waist, which is not tolerable by its excruciating pain. Concentrating my view, I noticed Zion was peering at my soul, sitting beside the desk while he holds a book. I gave him a 'what?' expression, and he shrugged in return. I have to admit, he is very intimidating when he looks dead serious or just staring. He even scared our coach back then when Zion was just staring at him.
“You still there?” He places the book on the desk.
“Yeah! I mean, yes, whatever that is.” I snapped out.
I averted his gaze and looked around the room, and I was right. I'm in a bedroom. The room is neat, bed on the corner and besides is a desk with few books on top of it. Something's bothering me. I looked at my waist, and it was wrapped in a bandage that was stained with dried blood. I can't help but to think I was changed like a helpless child while sleeping.
“How long did I pass out?” I faced him.
“Five and this is the sixth day,”
Wow.
“I even have to call Dr. Herms to watch over you while I'm on my work.” he sighs and continued.
I got shocked when he mentioned someone took care of me while I was sleeping. Why would he do that?
“Who is he?” I inquired.
“No worries. He's one of the med squads from the basement.” He took the book back and returned to to read.
I lie back on the bed, thinking of what my brother said. Even if I hate him, I still prefer if he would be the one to look over me and not just another prying eyes.
“What have you been doing recently, anything new?” He queries while reading.
I've got to say I'm not in the mood to talk now, especially if it's my brother, but you can't defeat the inevitable.
“Just… The same.” I sigh.
“Really? You still didn't quit finding those.” he holds down the book, agitated.
I narrowed my eyes, “I don't care. As long as I live, I will find them.”
I looked at him, and he rolled his eyes, “You have to stop.”
I tensed up, fighting the urge to start a fire, “Did you… Even love Mother?”
“Of course I loved her.”
“Then why are you preventing me from giving him peace? Tch.” I yelled at him, raging as my fists clenched.
His eyes are still fixated on me, no hint of emotions or his expression changed and just sits there, unfazed. I sigh and lie back on the bed. I guess this always happens every time I interact with him. Snuggling back on the bed, I decided to doze off and calm myself…
“Aaron?” the voice dissipates after calling me.
I opened my eyes and found myself floating in the infinite darkness. The sound is prominent, but I couldn't make out whose voice, that is until…
Light flashes and a boy appears, while the scenery changes into a familiar alleyway. But, a little kid who is me surprised me, who he called. This was the day Zion and I met each other. About that time, I ran away from my coach and bumped into this arrogant guy. He was about to hurt me with a knife when Zion appeared out of nowhere and made the guy unconscious. The boy introduced himself as Zion, as well as mine. We eventually became friends but, as we did, I learned he was homeless and spent an entire year living in an alleyway, stealing money and food. I can't help but to feel a bit of pity for him. Then there was the time, my family was about to move out, so I called for him and as a part of our family. He agreed after I convinced him with ease.
I tumbled into the darkness, waking me up. Likewise, I sat, feeling sluggish, and looked around and saw Zion sitting beside the desk with a book in his hand, staring at me.
“You alright?” He inquired.
“Yeah, I'm fine, I'm… Fine,”
“How long did I sleep?” I asked.
He told me I just slept not more than four hours and also notifying me I bathed myself in sweat. Right now I can smell how I stink. Though I'm still bugged about that dream earlier, and I didn't have any kind of dream that reminds me of my past. Oh well, not that bothersome anyway.
“Anyway, I still haven't asked you this. How the hell did you get hurt?” He places the book down while shifting his face to grave.
Oh God, why do I get scared whenever he does that? I averted his gaze, facing the side of the room. I'm mad at him earlier, and now I am the one who's getting terrified. Not that I fear him, there's just something off with his intimidation.
“I'm talking he-”
“Fine, fine! Whatever, geez.” I cut him off, trying to overcome his intimidating aura.
I cleared my throat and told him everything I remember that happened to me that day.
