"Hmm … so you mean to say I died yesterday?" inquired Ferzo, suddenly coming to a halt.
[You nearly died; had help arrived any later, your life might not have been spared.]
"Is that so? Well then, thank you for saving me," said Ferzo, resuming his pedaling on his way home.
Upon arrival at home, Ferzo stowed his bicycle in his dormitory room, carefully wiping it down to rid it of any clinging dust – it was a new bike, after all.
He powered up his laptop and let music play, letting it accompany him to sleep as he had no other companions.
At school, no one seemed to care for him. They mocked him endlessly, and even though Ferzo was intelligent, they only approached when in need; once their need vanished, so did their acknowledgment of him. They'd often ask him to do their assignments or to take notes, which prevented him from keeping his own records. Despite that, Ferzo continued to comply, his nature too yielding and kind-hearted, but his gestures won him no friends; they kept their distance nonetheless.
The sound of motorcycles buzzing by signaled the arrival of morning. An unusually restful night's sleep – typically, his slumber was broken by worries over his employer's goats being stolen. Those days were simply memories now. In one day, he'd earned what would take him five months of work, a sum his employer would never guarantee.
Ferzo got up, showered, changed clothes, and took out his bicycle to ride along the roadside. Today’s journey felt joyful.
Reaching school, Ferzo parked his bicycle alone amidst a sea of motorbikes and cars.
Yun frowned, curious about how Ferzo had acquired enough funds to buy a bike. Could he have been saving all this time?
After parking, Ferzo entered his classroom.
"Look, he's got a new bike. What if we trashed it?” suggested Yun.
"Great idea," Mul agreed, and together they moved toward Ferzo's bicycle, releasing air from both tires.
Some students parking nearby witnessed Yun's deed but chose to remain silent rather than becoming targets themselves.
Yun, known for his mischief, would retaliate over even minor offenses, and with magnified consequences for major ones. His wealth and his father's indifference, who could resolve troubles with money, protected him.
Chuckling contentedly, they didn't stop at just deflating the tires – they proceeded to kick and bend the bicycle's wheels.
"I'll make sure you leave this school," Yun declared triumphantly after vandalizing Ferzo's bike. They returned inside, laughing, glancing Ferzo's way.
"Hey, goat shepherd, looking happy?" taunted Yun with a sneer.
"None of your business!" snapped Ferzo, focusing on his phone.
"Damn you! How dare you speak rudely. Looking for a beating, are you?" Approaching Ferzo, Yun grabbed the collar of his shirt. Ferzo grabbed Yun's hand, ready for a confrontation.
But suddenly, a teacher entered, prompting Yun to release Ferzo's shirt.
"You're lucky this time. Just wait until after school," Yun threatened before retreating to his seat.
"Pfft! Should be me saying that. You're lucky the teacher came in, or else you'd be finished," retorted Ferzo.
"Okay, class, please submit your homework upfront," said the teacher, eliciting groans from those who hadn't done it, and even those who hadn’t finished it.
Having completed his, Ferzo deposited his work on the teacher's desk and returned to his seat.
"Look at that, Ferzo’s the first again. What about the rest of you?" the teacher chided.
"Tch! It's always Ferzo, annoying!" muttered Yun, scratching his forehead and glowering at Ferzo, who simply grinned.
"Unbelievable! Since when does that kid smile? Just you wait, I'll make you cry later!" Yun grumbled in frustration.
The lesson continued on, everyone working on their tasks.
