Episode 4

Viona was transfixed in her seat, her breakfast identical to her husband's.

A slice of bread and a boiled egg, with a cup of warm bitter tea.

Viona stared at her breakfast without blinking.

It was ironic how the wealthy Antonius family treated their own child like this.

"Now that you're Bernard's wife, you'll be treated the same as him...if you want special treatment, convince your husband to work!" Viona's mother-in-law said coldly and curtly.

"Huh...if it wasn't for his indebtedness, who would want to marry him!" Viona's second sister-in-law retorted cynically.

"Didn't he get rejected by your sister, Viona? Why would you want to replace her and become Bernard's bride instead!" Viona's first sister-in-law replied with a mocking smile.

"Are you also stupid...can't you see what kind of man you're marrying? He's always been worthless...going out of the house for hours but not working, getting older...and now he's even found a young girl...hm, truly unexpected!" Viona's second sister-in-law sneered.

"Look at how foolish he is, no matter what's said, he remains silent...truly good-for-nothing!" Viona's brother-in-law laughed mockingly.

Enough! Viona could no longer bear hearing all the insults hurled at her husband.

Viona slammed her fist on the table as she rose from her seat, looking extremely angry.

Everyone at the dining table was startled by the sound of Viona hitting the table.

All of them turned to look at Viona, including her husband. Bernard also gazed at Viona, his eyes unblinking as he observed her anger.

"My husband is not a joke...none of you have the right to insult him...he's someone just like all of you, with a heart and feelings...he's also a part of your family, why do you hate him so much!" Viona shouted angrily, her body shaking with rage.

The dining room fell silent.

Viona's father-in-law stared at her without blinking. Especially her mother-in-law, her mouth agape as she observed Viona's outburst.

"You've crossed the line...don't take advantage just because my husband remains silent...you continue to oppress him as you please!"

For a few minutes, the dining room remained quiet. All eyes were still fixed on Viona.

Bernard also continued to stare at her without blinking, his gaze hinting at something.

"He deserves to be treated like that, he's just a burden...he can't work at the office to help his father, and now that he's married...what can you both eat!" Viona's mother-in-law retorted, snapping out of her initial shock.

"He's just an unwanted child in this family, Mama has been lucky to take care of him since he was young...ever since his mother died, it's been Mama who has taken care of all his needs and well-being...but look, until now he's still unreliable!" Viona's first sister-in-law added.

Viona was stunned by her brother-in-law's words. What did he mean? Viona wondered.

"Your husband is our half-sibling...he's Papa's illegitimate child!" Viona's brother-in-law exclaimed.

Meanwhile, Bernard remained silent in his seat, beginning to eat his breakfast quietly.

Suddenly, Viona felt a deep pain in her heart upon hearing her husband's family's explanation.

Now she understood why her husband was so disliked by his own family.

She lowered her head, holding back the tears that were about to fall. The love of the man she cherished was living such a painful life, never having felt the meaning of being loved and cared for since childhood.
