"Looks like we have some guests." I heard a lady's voice and turned around. She was behind the door, hanging her hat to the hanger. A witch-like hat.
She looked old yet charming. Her face had wrinkles which weren't that obvious. She wore black, making her fair skin more noticeable.
"A new vamp. Unexpected one. Gotta teach her a thing or two." Xavier looked nervous.
"We're busy enough. No time to teacha single student….. alone." She walked and sat on the chair.
"Come on… I know you're busy, but there has to be a way."
"There is… teach her yourself."
"I'm on a mission…" "The one you messed up? This is not the time for you to be worrying about her. Worry about yourself. You'll be summoned soon and dismissed anyways. You can later utilise all your spare time on her."
"So you do know that I messed up."
"I'm the eyes and ears of the mystery forest. There's no secret I don't know Xavier." Her last sentence was more like a whisper.
"Then what about her? Shall I take her to the law right away and confess everything?"
"That won't be necessary. Just take her if asked to. And about her studies….." she looked at me thoroughly with her head tilted. "Give us a minute alone…. I'd like to examine if she has the potential." Xavier sighed in relief and left, closing the door behind.
Now, it was just me, her and awkward silence, filled inside the room.
"Can you please place your hand on this globe, miss…?" "Melissa," I completed her sentence and placed my hand on the ball.
"Melissa! What a beautiful name." She smiled. I don't think so, I find it rather old fashioned.
"Melissa…. Bardot?" She looked at me with the 'Am I right?' look. Wow, she's definitely a witch.
"Yes," my eyes sparkled with excitement.
"Died in a…. Car accident?" Her expressions we're doubtful.
"Yes,"
"Your mother is Cindy Bardot and your father is?" This was the first time she looked curious.
"Umm… I'm really sorry. My dad died before my birth. So I don't know much about him."
"Oh no, no, no. I should be the one apologizing. I should've been considerate since the beginning." She didn't look sorry at all, but excited instead. "So you never asked your mother?"
"She gets upset at the thoughts of him, so I never asked. All I know is that he wasn't a bad guy, atleast not for my mother." This conversation was something I'd prefer avoiding but people seldom control their curiosities whenever we talk about dad.
"Don't you regret not knowing anything about him? Because, if I were to replace you, I'd regret it till death."
"I do. But past is past. We need to live in the present. My dad was my past, and my mom was my present, I didn't like the idea of ruining her happy life with 'dad talks'." Gosh, I can't believe I said those cheezy line that day. I'm literally puking while writing it down.
"That's okay for now, you can remove your hand. There's a rat trying to evesdrop." She clapped her hands twice and door flung open making Xavier fall, who was probably leaning onto the door, trying to listen to the conversation.
"It's no use, the walls and the door are soundproof." She singnalled him to come in.
"I wasn't trying to evesdrop." He shrugged, acting clueless.
"I've decided. She can join…." "Thankyou so much, thanks a lot. Nathan would've killed me, if you didn't." He cut her off in the middle and started shaking her hand crazily.
"But….." she shouted making him stop. "She'll be studying with the wizards and witches in the same classroom." She continued in a calm tone.
"What? No way. You can't be serious. How can a vampire study with those witches?" He said 'witches' with clear disgust on his face, reciving a death glare from her. "Come on, that's not…." "If you can't accept my condition, I can't take her in. That's the only possible way. Now it's upto you whether you want her to learn here or by you. The choice is yours." She put on her squared glasses, which were hanging in her neck and started ruffling through some papers. Xavier looked at me pitifully and sighed.
"Fine, it's only a matter of time. You need to hang in there." He patted my shoulder.
"I'm glad you agreed. Hope we get along, Miss Bardot." She smiled and stretched her hand out for a handshake.
"Melissa is fine." I shook her hand back and tried to retrieve but she kept holding and staring at me.
"You may go now and get your supplies. Xavier will show you around." She finally left my hand.
