Leonardo quickly got up and went to Gold, grabbing his raised arm before he could slapTade.
"Please, don't do anything to him," he pleaded.
Frank looked at Leonardo, sensing the desperation in his eyes. He didn't know why, but seeing Leonardo like that, he stepped back, distancing himself fromTade.
"Thank you."
Leonardo approached his father and helped him up, sitting him down on the sofa.
"Dad, will this ever end?"
"I'm sorry. I hadn't been drinking. I was searching for you everywhere, but couldn't find you. When I got home, I saw that letter and couldn't handle it."
"What letter?"
Leonardo looked at the paperTadewas pointing at on the floor, picked it up, and read its contents. His body froze, and he sat down, bringing a hand to his mouth. Frank, curious about what could have affected Leonardo so profoundly, saw tears streaming down his pale face. He considered approaching but impatiently asked instead.
"What is it? What does it say?"
Leonardo looked at him and handed him the letter, which Frank took and read. Meanwhile, Leonardo continued speaking, still unable to believe.
"It's an eviction notice. We have three days to leave; the bank is taking the house."
Frank looked atTadeand then at Leonardo. This didn't surprise him; he knew everything aboutTadeand Leo's life. He knew this would happen soon and had intended to use it against Leonardo to get what he wanted. He handed the letter back to Leonardo and looked at him.
"Let's go, you've seen your father."
"No, I won't go. I can't leave him alone."
"I didn't ask if you wanted to go, Leonardo."
Frank approached, grabbing Leonardo by the arms.Tadestood up, unsteadily but ready to defend his son.
"Let him go now. He said he won't go," slurredTade.
"Frank, please, let me stay. My father can't live on the streets; I need to find a place for him. Please. I... I'll do whatever you want."
Leonardo was truly willing to do anything to help his father. DespiteTade's life of drinking and gambling, he was still his father, and Leonardo loved him.
Upon hearing those words, Frank smiled, feeling victorious. His plan had worked.
"You know what I want, Leonardo."
Leonardo stood up, staring at him, and surrendered. He looked at Frank and, despite the hatred inside him, nodded.
"I accept, but I need to know that my father will be safe."
"You're in no position to ask me for anything, Guerrero."
Leonardo glanced at his father and then at Frank.
"I'm only asking you this, please."
Frank took a deep breath and looked at Leonardo, seeming irritated.
"Let's go; I have better things to do than waste time here."
Leonardo left with Frank, his heart sinking as he left his father behind. He felt sad and disappointed in himself for accepting Frank's absurd proposal, but at the same time, he thought about what Ella had said, about playing Frank's game. It gave him the idea that if he could earn Frank's trust, he might gain more freedom and finally be able to escape.
During the journey back to Frank's mansion, Leonardo remained quiet and thoughtful. Frank looked at him, trying to decipher his thoughts, but Leonardo seemed distant, lost in his own reflections. Frank couldn't tell if the young man beside him was sad, worried, or happy. He had never been one for emotions, and that frustrated him. He wanted to know what was going on inside Leonardo's head.
Once they arrived at the mansion, Leonardo went up to his room. He felt upset; he was losing the house, unsure of his father's fate, and still uncertain about Frank's true intentions. He recalled the proposal and felt a chill run down his spine, remembering that it involved becoming a personal slave. But what would that entail? How would he specifically serve Frank?
He opened the door leading to the balcony and sat on the ledge, observing the garden as his mind bubbled with thoughts. Should he fan him like Egyptian slaves? Should he wash his feet? Should he feed him mouth-to-mouth? Should he serve him sexually? What the hell did that man mean by personal slave?
He thought about going downstairs and asking Frank directly about his tasks in the house and towards him, but he saw him getting into the car and driving away with the chauffeur from the mansion.
After a few minutes, he went downstairs in search of something to eat. Upon entering the kitchen, he saw two busy cooks preparing lunch. They served him a piece of cheese pie and juice, and as soon as he finished eating, they kicked him out of the kitchen. They seemed overly agitated, which Leonardo found strange, but he decided not to question it and returned to his room, where he sat on the ledge of the balcony, watching the movements of the security guards standing guard in front of the mansion.
