Chapter 04 - Unexpected

Chapter 04 -

Unexpected

✿Cassy's point of view✿

"I'm bore! I don't know what to do! And the delivery won't arrive until the end of the week!" I whined as I roll around on my bed, messing it's covers up.

"My lady! Please, stopping rolling around like that! You're ruining the covers and your wrinkling your clothes and also messing your hair at the same time too!" There she goes again! Always scolding and nagging me that I should act more like a lady and be more poise like the others.

She was also like this when I told her this after I fell of my horse; "Oh Rose, it's fine! What can a little mess do me any harm?"

"My lady! It isn't just the mess I'm worried about! It's you!" She help me up. "You're the daughter of the Grand Duke of the Atesian Empire, The Emperor's youngest and only niece! You should know how to keep your image clean!" She told me this in just one breath. I'm impressed.

"Rose, wether I act the way I should be, I'll be always be the unloved and abandoned cursed child of the Grand Duke, so why must I keep acting like I'm a meek and damsel in distress?" I said, doing a dramatic pose.

"My lady, even so, you mustn't act like this! You're a Montefrancesco! You represent your father and his dukedom, so you must behave yourself.

"Whatever." I rolled my eyes saying so.

Another day, another boring day to waste.

That's how I described my day in my wing the past week, boring and empty.

*Knock**Knock*

"Yes, who is it?" There was a long pause from the person before revealing his identity.

"I-It's Alexander! May I come in?" I was shocked but recovered from it seconds later.

"Yes, yes, you may..." I said, almost whispering it.

The door opens and my brother's face is what I saw first, we had brief eye contact before he breaks it.

He closed the door and looked around my room first before settling in to sit across me.

The room fell silent as he and I awkwardly sit across each other. This is the first time, he and I ever had interaction.

"So? What is it that you came here for?" I inquired about his intentions of coming here before judging him wholely.

"I, I came here to discuss things with you." There was something off with how he said things but I ignore that and go with the flow.

"What things are we talking about, hmm?"

"I want to talk about your childhood here in the east wing? What is was like? If it was hard? If—"

"My life here is full of misery, pain, suffering and your will to survive. It's either you fight for life or die fighting for it! That's how I've been living for the past years and until now." I looked at him with rage that I've been suppressing since long ago.

"If there's nothing more... I would appreciate it very much if you leave my room. Thank you." I said and turn around from him.

"I'm sorry, for everything." He said before I heard the door opens and shuts.

I burst out in tears as I panted heavily. I didn't know that it would be too painful for me to reminisce everything in my mind.

The insults, the torture, the pain and the suffering that they've all caused me. I was only a child, a child that wants to be loved by her family, by her father. Not be battered and starved to death.

"Why can't I just be happy!?" I shouted.

"My lady, the three young masters are asking for your audience in the garden in their wing." I fell on the floor from my seat as soon as those words came out of Rose's lips.

"WHAT!?" I shrieked in shock as I grasp her shoulders tight. "What did you just said? Are you sure sure? Or are you sure like sure?" I wanted to make sure that I wasn't hallucinating when I heard her say that to me.

"Yes, my lady. I am sure!" She confirmed my suspicion. I pursed my lips together before turning around arrogantly.

"Well then, tell them that I don't want to! That I have my own errands to be bothered by them." I said, my head up.

"But—" I quickly cut her off. "Rose! I don't want to spend my time wasted by those jerks of a brothers I have! Now go!" She bowed her head in defeat and went on her way.

*In the garden*

"Alex, do we have to do this? I mean, so what if she had a troubled childhood! We have our own pain to deal with growing up!" Adonis exclaimed. I can't believe this boy, I know he has point but even so; between us all Cassy had it worse.

"Adonis, you shouldn't say that! Cassandra's our sister, it's high time we act as her brothers!" Alastair said. He must've read my mind.

Alastair is my twin, our souls are connected to each other, so we feel everything the other feels. We could read each other's thoughts and know when we are not okay.

He is always there for me and I am always there for him.

"Adonis, Alastair's right. We should start acting like real brothers to Cassy." I told him but all he did was pout his lips and grumbled incoherent words, sulking about it.

"Young masters?" We heard a nervous voice. We turn and see that it was Cassy's servant.

"Where's Cassy?" That was the first question that popped up in my mind. The maid is here but there was no Cassy in sight.

"Well, my ladyship said that; she has some errands to do and that she, she can't come here." She looked so genuinely sorry and all I did was nod and dismissed her.

"Well, what a very rude girl she is! We already invited her here and she declined it! I knew that we shouldn't be kind with her." I smack the back of his head as he said those things.

"You don't even know the reason why she declined us! Don't assume anything, she must feel uncomfortable with us, especially because of how we treated her all this years." She must feel remorse towards us. I just hope I'm not that too late.

"Fine! I won't!" I hope you keep your word Adonis, we can't mess this up!

♡♡

"My lady, may I ask you something?" I put down my quill pen and turn to her.

"Of course, Rose! Go ahead."

"My lady, why did you decline the masters invite?" She asked. Her eyes anticipates my answer.

I chuckled dryly. "Rose, why do I need to converse and play pretend with them when I could just stay here and do whatever I want?" She frowns at my answer.

"My lady, I do not wish for my question to be answered with another question. Please be more direct and honest with me." Even when she is displeased with me and seems to want to scold me for it, she still stayed calm and polite despite it.

I sighed as I try to held my emotions down. "Like I said before, they brought me nothing but misfortune and death, and besides I'll die sooner, so why must I waste my time here in doing something I would regret doing?" She seems to be taken back by what I said. I don't blame her, ever since my reincarnation I started to think less of my relation to this family, my love in them is slowing fading away.

"My lady, if I may, when the masters request for you, especially young master Alex. He looked genuinely hopeful of your answer to be yes but his face became sad and bitter as soon as I delivered the message of you not attending." She reached for my hands and held it, lightly squeezing it. "They have learned to love you, my child." I teared up as the image of my mother resurfaced from her guise.

"Mom, I don't know what to feel anymore. I have contradicted my decisions far too many times now. I, I feel like my life has turned upside down ever since I reincarnated, what am I supposed to do now?"

"My child, what the mind thinks, the heart contradicts. The difference between them, is that the mind restrains and the heart takes the risk. You must listen to what it say and thinks but always know the Valkyries are here to guide, for you are their kin."

I sniffled as she wipes my tears away, she kisses my cheeks and smiled painfully at me.

"My child, I know that things may seem hard right now but know that your family is here for you, WE are here for you." She cheers me up. She really knows how to comfort me.

"Thanks, Mom. I wish you could stay longer, but you're mana is still so weak. That bastard really has a tight hold of your body, don't worry Mom I'll find where your body is hidden." She smiles but shakes her head.

"No, my child. You must not act hastily, you need to resolve this personal matter first before you handle the bigger problem. You will need all the help you can get, especially from your brothers and Father." She reminds me again of my true purpose here.

"I will, Mom. I just need a little more time." I glumly told her. She smiles, despite her efforts go all in vain.

"Until we speak again, my child....."
