Episode 5

Marcela's Point of View

It has been a few weeks since Cesar humiliated and left me standing at the altar. These days, I have been living in Lili's apartment. She has been treating me really well, supporting me like a sister. She even helped me get a job at a cafe near where she works.

To reach the place where I am starting to work, I have to take the bus for over forty minutes and then catch the subway since it is located on the outskirts of the city.

I tried looking for a place closer to work because the idea of commuting so far didn't appeal to me. But every time I tried, I had to run into Susana or a member of her family.

"This is it, this will be the place where you start working," Lili mentioned, pointing to the place in front of me.

I raised my eyebrow with a hint of displeasure. The establishment where I am going to work for the first time in my life is quite strange, as it is situated in an area I would have never dared to come to.

"Can we go back to the city and find a quieter place?" I asked Lili, not wanting to enter the premises.

Lili turned to look at me, placed her hand on my shoulder, and began laughing at me as if I had said something funny.

"Marcela, if you want to go back to the city, you can, but remember that no matter where you find a job there, you will always run into Susana, Cesar, or any member of her illustrious family."

I lowered my defeated gaze. Lili was right. No matter how hard I try to distance myself from them, and not want to have anything to do with Susana, Cesar, or my so-called relatives, I always end up encountering one of them.

And of course, they always end up humiliating me. I am their damned joke, the fool who fell in love and handed them everything on a silver platter.

"We can go in," I said, walking across the street towards the cafe.

Before fully crossing the street, there was a club that caught my attention. It was somewhat hidden, but the sign was quite big, advertising fun and beautiful girls twenty-four hours a day.

"What are you looking at?" Lili asked when she noticed me staring at the same place.

"It looks quite strange," I responded as if I were spellbound by the place.

"It's a club for wealthy men, very far from the city. The women who work there are incredibly beautiful, with perfect bodies, big breasts, tiny waists, and huge behinds."

"Definitely, Marcela, you have no chance of working in a place like that," Lili joked, playfully tapping my shoulder.

I just smiled and continued walking until we reached the place where I would start working. As soon as I entered, I was taken aback as the interior was completely different from the exterior.

The place had high-end decor and there were many people working, rushing around to attend to all the customers who were there at the moment. It was filled with people, mostly couples out to have a good time.

"Surprised, aren't you?" Lili asked, pulling me along by the hand to keep walking.

Both of us walked towards a door. Lili started knocking and a woman's voice could be heard from inside the room. Lili opened the door, and we both entered.

Every passing second, I grew more and more nervous. I had never worked before, and now that I was about to, my hands trembled and my heart pounded fiercely.

"Hello, Laura. This is Marcela, the girl I told you about," Lili said, pointing beside her.

Laura stood up from her seat and immediately scowled with displeasure. That made me even more nervous.

"She will be on trial for two weeks, if she doesn't work well as a waitress, I will fire her regardless of your recommendation..."

I felt terrible hearing Laura's words, and even more so by the way she looked at me. I could only lower my head filled with shame...

Lili grabbed my hand and pulled me out of that woman's office, she looked at me for a few seconds without saying anything... She knew that woman's words had crushed me...

"Marcela, don't pay too much attention to Laura's words, she has always been like that with all her employees..."

I shrugged my shoulders as a sign that Laura's words didn't matter much to me, I just wanted to work and start earning some money so I wouldn't be a burden to Lili. These past few days living in Lili's apartment, I have been eating for free, and of course, I don't like it at all.

After a short conversation, Lili left me at the cafe, so I could start getting acquainted with my new job. She went off to work at the clothing store...

The hours passed by quickly, in the blink of an eye, the hours I had to work at the cafe were gone.

After a while, I left the cafe to catch the bus back to the city. While waiting at the stop, I felt a strong yank from behind...

I turn to see the person who pushed me back, and when I realize it's Cesar, my eyes widen with fear...

I didn't understand why Cesar was here, I highly doubt it was a coincidence...

"Looks like you've ended up where you deserve!..." Cesar tells me mockingly...

"Let go of me, Cesar!..." I said, hitting his hand to make him release me...

"Let go of you? Never!..." I said, and then he started pulling me towards his car...

I was scared of what Cesar might do to me if he managed to get me into his car. Without thinking, I held onto something, preventing Cesar from further pushing me towards his car...

"I won't let go, Marcela. I will take you to the Wod mansion to become Susana's maid!..." Cesar said, snatching my hand away from the object I had grabbed to prevent him from pulling me any further...

Suddenly, several gunshots were heard across the street. In that moment, Cesar let go of my hand and I foolishly ran to the other side of the street...

I saw the man who had been shot, covered in blood. I quickly knelt beside him, taking off the sweatshirt I was wearing... I placed it on the bullet wounds to prevent further bleeding...

For a while, I took a first aid course while studying... It was coming in handy now, helping me prevent the man from bleeding to death...
