After trying to regain control in the bathroom, Benicio returned and finished that lunch. When he returned to the company, Adrian had also already returned, but knowing that his assistant had lunch with that girl still bothered him. He couldn't say if he was actually jealous of his employee; that internal mess was making him irritated, which was also reflecting externally.
"Is everything in order? Can we go visit the terrain now?" he asked without looking at Adrian.
"Yes, I spoke with the person in charge; he will wait for us at the location. We can go if you want," Adrian replied.
"Then grab your things and let's go," he said curtly.
Adrian left the room, deep in thought. It was difficult to understand his boss's mood, and he didn't even know the reason for all that stress and nervousness. He couldn't comprehend if he was doing something wrong, but he didn't want to ask.
After grabbing their things, the two of them left the company. Benicio's driver took them to that commitment. During the journey, he couldn't hold back and started asking about his lunch with those two women.
"I heard you had lunch with Gabriela and one more person today. Are you getting acquainted quickly?" he tried to disguise the question.
"Yes, Gabriela invited me to see the location, and it turned out Helena was also going, so we had lunch together," Adrian found it strange that Benicio knew where and with whom he had eaten.
"Helena? The girl who gave you cookies and was flirting with you?" Benicio's tone changed when he asked.
"Yes, that's her."
"You seem to be quite popular among girls. I hope there won't be any issues in the company because of these involvements."
Adrian noticed the displeasure with which Benicio said those words. He still didn't know Benicio well, but it seemed like he was sending mixed messages to him. It was as if he was bothered by his closeness to those women. Adrian just couldn't decipher if the discomfort was because of him or because of the female employees.
"As for that, you don't need to worry, sir. I know how to separate personal from professional," Adrian reassured his boss.
However, Benicio didn't really like that response. When Adrian said he knew how to separate, it implied that something might be happening or could happen between the two of them. Every time he thought about it, Benicio became even more irritated, not only because of his assistant's potential romance, but also because he realized he was thinking more about Adrian than his fiancee. That possibility regarding his employee bothered him more than if it were with Carla.
"I hope so," Benicio replied curtly.
Silence once again filled the space until they reached their destination. After those few words, it wasn't just Benicio who became contemplative, but Adrian also started to feel that way.
They began to walk around the location while Adrian took note of some points from the conversation his boss was having with the representative. Benicio started to act differently towards him; at times, he treated him coldly. When everything was resolved and they got back in the car, Adrian couldn't hold back.
"Sir, if you allow me to ask, I would like to know if my job is not pleasing you?"
Benicio looked at him after that question, realizing that he might have overreacted a bit. It would be normal for Adrian to think that he was angry because of his work. Adrian wanted to clarify what was going wrong, he needed the job and wanted to give his best. However, if he didn't know what was causing Benicio's displeasure, he couldn't improve.
"It's not that, on the contrary, I am satisfied with your work. I apologize if I gave you the wrong impression about my approval. I'm just worried about some things in the company and also about the annual party; the day is approaching, so I get a little stressed," Benicio tried to justify his stress.
"I understand, but as your assistant, I'm here to support you. There's no need to get so overwhelmed. You can give me some tasks; I want to do my job the best way possible and I want you to be satisfied."
Adrian said that, looking at Benicio, and for a few seconds, he could sense the gaze that was observing him. At that moment, it wasn't the indifferent look that his boss was trying to maintain. It seemed tender and admiring.
Benicio realized how he was staring into Adrian's clear eyes, so he looked away. This time, he tried to respond with a bit more kindness.
"You seem to be a good professional, Adrian. I'm satisfied with your performance so far. Perhaps my change in mood may have given you the wrong impression. I'll try to be more conscious about that."
"As I said, I'm here to help." Adrian responded with a smile.
Benicio looked away once again. Adrian's smile was even more enchanting. "Does he really have to smile like that?" he thought, because that sweet smile made him feel even better, yet at the same time, it worsened his situation.
