In light of Carla taking sides, Adrian became even more certain of what he suspected: she had something against him, as she didn't even give him a chance to explain his side.
"Excuse me, miss, but I believe there has been a misunderstanding here. I never had the intention of harming anyone. As I mentioned to her before she entered, I was part of this report, but I couldn't finish it," Adrian began to try to explain.
"If you're not competent enough to complete this simple task, you could have at least informed her that you couldn't do it. What happens to your coworker faced with your incompetence?" Carla continued her accusation.
"It wasn't due to incompetence. I have never taken on a task and left it unfinished. I have always been responsible for all of my work, but I received orders to set aside the report," Adrian was not willing to be unjustly accused and countered the accusations.
"And on top of it all, you're impertinent. How dare you respond to me like that? And who stopped you from doing this work?" Carla pressed.
At this point, Benicio entered the room and interrupted the discussion, ready to clarify the situation.
"It was me," Benicio announced.
Benicio opened the door and immediately responded, as he already suspected that the subject was related to the report he had forbidden Adrian from doing. Since the other woman in the room was likely responsible for the task, he preferred to deal with the situation directly.
"May I know what is going on in this room?" he asked, looking at the three.
"Your assistant harmed this woman by not completing the report he offered to do," his fiancee accused Adrian directly.
"I never committed to doing it. She simply left it on my desk," Adrian promptly defended himself.
Benicio realized that his fiancee was attacking Adrian with hostility and decided to intervene to clarify the situation, especially since he noticed that the other woman was unsettled.
"Now that the person responsible for the report is in this room, could you explain to me why you couldn't complete the task yesterday?" Benicio directed his question to the woman responsible for the report.
The woman began to feel uncomfortable, as she knew things could become complicated for her, since she didn't inform anyone of the reason for not completing her work.
"I had some personal issues, so I asked for help from my colleague, but he couldn't finish it," she changed her tone to explain.
"Did you inform your superior that you wouldn't be able to deliver this report? Or did you simply rely on your colleague to do your work for you?"
"No, sir, I didn't say anything."
Carla realized that her fiance was about to defend Adrian, so she tried to intervene once again, as she was determined to harm the employee in any way she could.
"The point here is that he should have refused immediately. He didn't, and he still left the work incomplete. The only one harmed now is this poor woman. This demonstrates his incompetence," Carla argued.
"But miss..." Adrian began to respond, but was interrupted.
Benicio not only defended Adrian, but also reprimanded Carla and the employee in question. He had a serious expression on his face, but spoke calmly and assertively.
"Don't worry, Adrian. I understand how everything happened and I don't doubt your ability. As for this woman, I can't say the same. She prioritized her personal matters, didn't inform her superior about her problem, and transferred her work to another colleague. I believe the incompetence here is not yours."
Then, Benicio turned to Carla and also reprimanded her.
"Matters of my company should be left to me. Adrian is my assistant, and no employee is authorized to assign tasks to him unless I instruct them to do so. I gave the order for him not to perform this task, so if she has any complaints, she should address them directly in my office."
The employee was visibly uncomfortable and feared the consequences of her actions. She decided to end the matter.
"It is not necessary to continue with this. I acknowledge that I was wrong in my behavior, and I assure you that it will not happen again."
Benicio was firm in his words, establishing clear rules and warning the employee about the consequences of repeating her behavior. He also emphasized that Adrian worked exclusively for him. Carla was angry at Adrian's defense and the fact that her fiance had reprimanded her in front of the other two employees. She couldn't understand why Benicio was always protecting Adrian.
"If matters have already been clarified, I think you should leave, Carla, as I had said when you left my office," Benicio spoke to her and looked at the other woman in the room. "And you, shouldn't you be going to take care of your report? I believe you have already wasted enough time here. As for you, Adrian, follow me to my office."
Benicio left the room, and Adrian grabbed his agenda and followed him. He didn't know if he would be reprimanded or if there was another reason for his boss's invitation, but he had the feeling that Benicio's fiancee was becoming increasingly irritated with him.
