Episode 9

Carla waited a few minutes in the room while her ally went to fetch one of the newcomers so she could talk to him. If it was as she was thinking, that person could help her get what she wanted. As she reflected, the door opened, and her accomplice entered with the new employee.

"Miss, he is the person I mentioned," she pointed to the man who entered right behind her.

"Pleased to meet you, I am Carla, Benicio's fiancee."

"Pleasure to meet you, Miss. I am Fabio. How can I assist?" he responded to her handshake.

"Are you interested in becoming my fiance's assistant?" she was direct.

"But he has already chosen someone else. How could I be his assistant?" he found that question strange.

"The person by his side at the moment is not qualified. He is only in that position because he pretended to be hit by a car driven by Benicio. I don't want someone unscrupulous like him by my fiance's side. What do you say? Are you willing to help me and at the same time get that position?"

Fabio remained thinking about that proposal for a few moments. He truly desired that position, and if Benicio's own fiancee was offering him that opportunity, he saw no problem in accepting that offer.

"I know I can do a good job for Mr. Benicio. If what you're saying is true, we can't let that type of person remain in the company."

Carla was pleased with the response she received and asked Fabio to take a seat. She began explaining what she expected him to do. Her main objective was to show Benicio that Adrian was not as competent as he thought, starting by undermining Adrian's performance and ultimately leading her fiance to dismiss him. Carla knew that Benicio did not tolerate mistakes in work.

Benicio was still in the meeting room with Adrian. Neither of them imagined that in another room of the same building, someone was plotting against them, especially Benicio, who had no idea that his fiancee was involved in the plan.

When the meeting concluded, Carla had already given her instructions to Fabio and left the building. She didn't want to risk running into Benicio, so she left the instructions for Fabio to follow as soon as he exited the room and left the building.

One of Fabio's first actions was to spread the information that Adrian had entered the company through blackmail and not on merit. This caused people to start looking at him differently.

Adrian began noticing strange looks directed at him, which was very different from what he had experienced when he joined the company and before the meeting. After leaving Benicio's office, he headed to a small social kitchen to get some water, but the situation didn't change. Three women who were there left as soon as he entered and didn't even respond to his greetings.

"What happened to everyone?" Adrian was confused.

As he drank water and reviewed Benicio's schedule, another person entered the kitchen and greeted him. Adrian recognized the person as someone who had also participated in the interview on the same day as him.

"You were one of the finalists for the assistant position, right?" Adrian asked, maintaining his characteristic friendliness.

"Yes, I am Fabio. And you? What's your name?" Fabio asked, as if he didn't know.

"I'm Adrian," Adrian extended his hand to shake his.

"So, you're Mr. Benicio's new assistant?"

"Yes," he replied with a smile.

"What do you think of the job so far?" Fabio asked, sitting down.

"I'm enjoying it. Mr. Benicio has the patience to explain what he needs, but he's also quite demanding."

Fabio continued to engage in insincere conversation with Adrian, hoping that he would release a complaint or reveal some important information that he could use against him. However, he realized that Adrian was more astute than he had imagined and that he would need to adopt a different approach to gain his trust or obtain information.

"The conversation has been great, but I need to get back to work. We'll talk more another time," Adrian said goodbye and left the room.

"We'll see how long he keeps that smile on his face," Fabio commented as soon as Adrian left the room.

Adrian was still unaware of everything that was happening. For a moment, he thought it could just be his imagination, as Fabio had spoken to him in a normal manner. Perhaps he was just nervous on his first day.

Benicio's next appointment would be a business lunch at a restaurant. Adrian decided to confirm the reservations in his schedule, just to make sure.

"At eleven o'clock, you have lunch with some investors, reservations have already been confirmed," Adrian informed his boss.

"Alright, grab your things. You're coming with me."

"Me?" Adrian asked, surprised.

"Yes, aren't you my assistant? Then, you should come with me. I did mention the flexibility of schedules. It may happen that we have to have dinner as well. Will there be any problem regarding the times?" Benicio asked more seriously.

"No, no problem. If I have to come home a little later, I just need to let my grandmother know. She gets worried when I arrive home late."

Benicio nodded, but still had a few more questions in mind. The main one was about Adrian's personal life, although he hesitated to admit it, he wanted to know if Adrian had someone special in his life.

"Don't you have to inform anyone else? A girlfriend or fiancee?" Benicio pretended the question was casual.

"No, sir. I'm single. I only have my grandmother, who I consider my mother."

Benicio didn't show it, but he felt a small sense of joy upon hearing that. It was selfish of him to feel that way, but he couldn't avoid the feeling of happiness and relief knowing that Adrian wasn't in any relationship.
