Episode 6

I ignited the vehicle and floored the accelerator before she even opened the door.

"Idiot, I could have died if I had opened the door," she accused, striking me while I burst into laughter.

"Didn't you want a ride?" I said with a grin as she buckled her seatbelt, then pulled mine across and fastened it for me.

"Thanks, Alessandro."

"Are you alright?" I asked, placing my hand on her forehead.

"Yes, I'm fine, it's just that... Never mind, can you drop me at Fran's place? We agreed to meet there."

"Why go there if you know they'll try to drug you?" I inquired.

"Well, Alessandro, do you think anyone would approach to be friends with me the way I dress?" Alessia said, lowering her head.

"I even feel sorry for you when people see you with me," I said, and we both burst into laughter.

"Yeah, but it's easier to find victims," she replied, not stopping her laughter.

"Well, I won't interfere with your hobbies."

When we arrived at Fran's, the sight of the door open and hanging off its frame was odd.

"What happened here?" I asked.

"I don't know, but we need to find out," Alessia said, swiftly getting out of the car.

Together, we stepped inside the house where many belongings were strewn across the floor, as if someone had been searching for something.

"Don't touch anything," I whispered to Alessia, and she nodded.

In one of the bedrooms, a couple laid on the bed, knives plunged into their chests. The way the knife was inserted suggested an amateur's work.

"I can't understand what happened here!" exclaimed my sister. Suddenly, a man leaped out at us, taking us by surprise as he lunged for my sister.

"You two know where it is!" We grasped what the maniac was alluding to but in his surprise attack, Alessia ended up seated on the floor, observing the man before us.

From what seemed like a closet, we heard sobs; the man yanked open the door revealing a roughly sixteen-year-old girl.

"Don’t kill me, please, I don't know anything, please don’t kill me!" she cried as the man pressed the knife to her throat, his grasp unsteady.

"You are..." His words were cut short when he crumpled to the floor; my sister had struck him on the head.

"Damn bitch," he hissed, pulling out a gun and aiming at my sister.

"Brother, I'm so scared, save me!" cried Alessia, embracing me and pretending to weep.

I knew what she wanted; she wanted him taken out.

Glancing at the ground, I noticed the man's knife near my foot.

"I guess I'll be late to see Stefy!" I declared and kicked the knife, lodging it in his hand that held the gun.

"You don't understand, she..." I turned to the girl the man had threatened; she was on the floor crying and shaking, her head covered by her hands.

I approached the man, extracting the knife from his hand, then began plunging it into his chest repeatedly; he was already dead but I couldn’t stop, a surreal thrill coursing through me from my toes to my head.

"You've killed him," Alessia stated, resting her hand on my shoulder, and that's when I stopped.

I surveyed the scene, my clothes stained a bright crimson that might even look good in my paintings.

Turning to the girl, who lay there with eyes wide with fear, she recoiled as I approached.

"Please, don't kill me!" she pleaded before fainting.

"And now?" ... "What do we do with her?" asked Alessia.

"Call our parents," I replied as I lifted the girl in my arms.

In her hand, she wore a bracelet; around her neck, a necklace bearing the name Daniela.

"Daniela," I murmured and carried her away from the scene as we exited to find ourselves surrounded by the police.

"Hands up, let me see your hands," an officer commanded.

Alessia raised her hands while I couldn't, holding the girl in my arms.

Fortunately, our father's car pulled up in front of the officers. He spoke with them before announcing, "You two can go."

Our mother approached us.

"Are you both okay?" she inquired, searching for signs of injury.

"We're fine, mom."

She glanced at me, covered in blood, I understand why she wouldn't want to check me over as well.

"Alessandro, I was so worried about you, please don't worry your mother like that."

"Sorry, mom." A paramedic came by to take the girl from my arms, which is when my mother embraced me.

"You two had better have a good explanation," said Dad, clearly agitated.

"There it is," Alessia began. "Alessandro killed that man because he tried to kill us and seemed to be looking for something!"

"What thing?" inquired my father.

"I'm not sure, but I think she knows!" I said, watching as the ambulance left the scene.

"Let’s head home; you two are filthy," suggested mom.

Alessia and I simply nodded.

Back home we showered, and then, as planned, I went to Stefy's place, a flat she rented near the university in the name of independence, leaving her parents' home.

I knocked on the door to be greeted by Dario, her new boyfriend, who stood there wrapped in a towel, his bare torso on view.
