Aiden's Diary: Burning Village

Willow wasn't keen on explaining in detail what all this preparation was for and what my so-called destiny was about. Varu introduced himself as my next master and told me about the situation in the kingdom. He said although the entirety of Rasbonia was in a major crisis and most of the human factions have either been enslaved or defected to the evil warlord's side, He said the three strongholds which remained are the Cantuths, Growlwort, and Sasper. These factions have existed for thousands of years and had methods of resisting the warlord's tyranny. However, he was getting stronger and they weren't sure how long they could resist him.

Varu added Growlwort and Sasper formed an alliance to hold back the warlord's armies, but the Cantuth have existed in the shadows, and they intended to keep it that way. They are only recorded in the ancient logbooks of the human faction as guardians but not a single human was sure if they were real or not.

I asked if the human faction only has records of the Cantuths existing in the ancient text, what evidence he have they existed and why haven't they come to fix it since they were the "guardians to the human." Varu asked me a question that stunned my core, he said "Why did you train so hard and continue to train with me when you have no interest in helping?" I wanted to say I wasn't given a choice but something within wanted to help this struggling nation. He told me the Cantuth blessed the princess of the land with their ultimate power but when she rose up against Rex, the evil warlord, she vanished. He told me if we want to increase of chance of winning this battle, we’d have to find this princess, nicknamed the Tasmanian devil.

Willow had just left on her trip and my new training regimen began. Varu intended to push me beyond my limits till I either broke down or surpassed it. He said if I was truly worthy of being his student, I'd surpass whatever obstacle thrown at me.

This wolf was indeed a demon wolf for working me more than a donkey. We went three whole days without any food nor rest and only stop periodically to catch my breath.

All we did didn't seem to faze him and he kept at these three whole days. I feared and admired his tenacity, and I wasn’t sure if I could match up to him any time soon.

We set off to look for the Tasmanian devil on the fourth day and our search led us to our first location Azlon but what we were welcomed with was a horrible scene. The geckoziods had raided the village with Zap’s army and massacred almost most everyone there. I rushed to battle these bastards but was all for naught. The damage was done and there was nothing to salvage.

I heard someone cough, it was in that house with the roof still burning. I couldn’t find anything to turn off that fire and I doubt anything could quench such flames. I ran in with my cloak over my nose to reduce the smoke I inhaled and felt my way into the house. I found a lady almost suffocated, so I tried to drag her out. We were almost out when the exit got blocked by burning flames. I thought this was the end then I heard a howl, and the entrance was smashed through. I quickly made my exit and laid her near the well. We waited till she regained her consciousness and that took nearly three hours, so I searched the village for any more survivors. Varu joined me to search for any survivors, but she was the sole survivor of her village.

Varu was mad at me for some reason I wasn’t sure of, and he didn't want to tell me but when I asked him about the horrible soldiers, he snapped at me and asked how reckless I was to charge in without a plan. I felt sorry because he was right and my getting trapped in the burning house showed for my recklessness. I apologized but he told me not to because not learning from my mistake would be worse. Just then she opened her eyes.
