Chapter 5

...A V E R Y ...

I fiddled with my fingers, something I did when I was nervous. The tension was thick as a skull in the car. I decided to break the awkward feeling in the air.

"When you graduate, what are you going to pursue, or your dream?" I suddenly asked.

Desmond turns to look at me for a split second before focusing on the road once again.

"I've never thought about it much before, to be honest Eve," he sincerely replied.

Eve. Another nickname. I preferred Ave more.

"How about you?" He asked.

I snapped out of my thoughts, my cheeks flustered red," I want to pursue business, to be more specific, entrepreneurship."

"That's a good idea," he said still focusing on the road, "You'll be a great businesswoman," he continued.

"Well yes, I suppose," I replied.

My tummy rumbled loudly signifying I was hungry. Please, dear Lord, tell me he didn't hear that.

"I'm stopping at the small café down the road, is there anything you need," he asked. I looked at him confused before it dawn on me, that he was asking what I wanted to eat.

"Just a small cup of coffee and a hot dog would be fine," I replied, reaching into my bag to get my purse.

"It's okay, breakfast is on me Ave," he chuckled softly.

"Well, um, thanks I guess," I replied.

He parked the car along the sidewalk, leaving me in the front with the A/C on high. The sun was coming out and it seemed the weather won't be so windy after all.

School begins at eight in the mornings and ends at two.

Six cruel hours of our life! Only to spend many many years at school and get minimum salaries. Just great!

Speak of great. Aaron was in the line with a girl, Autumn, the third prettiest girl in school. Apparently, she isn't friends with Summer and Winter. Speak of Summer, I looked around but she was nowhere to be found.

How is that possible? When she and Winter left with Aaron earlier on. Confusion clouded my brain and I decided that it was enough. It was none of my business anyway.

Aaron spotted Desmond, then he looked around immediately he must have recognized his car. Not remembering that Des car windows were darkened, I ducked quickly so if he came over he wouldn't see me.

The car door opened, and I just jumped up frightened. I quickly shrugged it off as if nothing had happened.

"Ave, you okay?" he questioned. He raised his eyebrow as a warning probably not to lie to him.

"Yeah, I'm fine, just cold," I lied.

He sat in his car before placing the two coffees in the cup holder and placing the hotdog on my lap.

"Tiger, don't lie to me," he said through gritted teeth.

I cowered in the seat, trying to make myself as small as possible.

"Hey, look at me," I lifted my head and was met with his blue eyes that soften, "I'm sorry I scared you, tiger, you know I wouldn't hurt you, right?" I thought about it for a second, he did treat me like a person, a normal person.

"Yeah, I know," my voice came out hoarse.

He started up the car, "Good, now eat up Ave before your tummy murder you," we both laughed at his silly joke.
