...A V E R Y ...
After watching two episodes, I decided that it was enough and resume my project, after a while, I've grown exhausted; having enough for one day. I shut down my laptop and placed all the scattered papers neatly on my small table and climbing into my bed.
Ding Dong!Ding Dong!Ding Dong!
My phone rang, I seriously need to change that annoying ringtone. I picked up the phone staring at the unknown caller ID. Who could be calling my phone now? Nervously I accepted the call.
"Hello, who's this," I asked curiously.
"Hey Ave," the voice said, immediately I knew who it was.
Desmond.
Why was he calling me this time of the night?
Wait, how did he even get my number, and I didn't remember giving it to him?
Weird, may I add.
I put my phone on speaker, too tired to hold it at my ear, much less to grab my earphone from the table. Shuffling of things could be heard on the other side of the speaker.
"Ave, why are you so quiet," he questioned.
"I'm tired, do you know what time it is now moron?" I asked rudely.
"Jeez, relax tiger, it's just after ten the time is still early," he laughed.
I rolled onto my side, smiling like a fool, his laugh was genuine, not mocking or rude.
"Wait, how'd you get my number, Des," I said before I could even stop myself. There was a short pause on the phone before he replied," Funny thing, you see I may or may not have asked Winter for your number."
Winter?!
"You asked Winter for my number? And she gave it to you, yeah?" I asked beyond puzzled.
"Yeah, aren't you, Winter and Summer sisters? So I guess nothing is wrong with asking," he stated.
How the hell this boy knew so much, in such little time?
As if he was reading my thoughts he continued, "Well, I asked some kids about you, and they sent me to Winter."
That's weird.
Winter was the calmer one, even though she can be rude, still she was the better one. I wonder which kids he asked. Curiosity clouded my mind, questions roaming as ghosts.
"Ave, are you sleeping?" I completely forgot about Desmond for a second.
"No, I'm here tired. We'll talk tomorrow, yeah? Good night," I whispered.
"Okay, well good night Ave, sweet dreams," and he hung up.
I smiled for the first time. A real smile. It's been years since I heard someone told me sweet dreams.
For the first in a long time, I fell into a peaceful slumber.
Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!
Is it morning already and I just went to bed? Note my sarcasm. I pressed the snooze button on my phone, got up spread my bed. I was in no mood to deal with anyone or anything.
Grumpily, I head into my small bathroom turn on the water, and took a cold shower. My eyes skipped to the bruise on my wrist, a small scab was on it now. I grabbed some ointment and rub some on it to speed up the healing process. After I was done, I proceeded to brush my teeth. Today's weather was windy and maybe expected rain.
Yes, I check the weather in the mornings to be on the safe side.
Roaming through my closet, I picked out a purple long sleeve turtle neck blouse with a mid-thigh skirt and my white converse shoes.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
"Avery, if you're awake, hurry up and get downstairs for family breakfast, fat twerp," she muttered at the end but I heard her.
I scoffed, when since we have family breakfast? Unbelievable! Nevertheless, I dragged on my clothes and grabbed my bag along the way with a small umbrella. Nervousness filled my body as soon as I stepped outside, usually, I'll just slip through the back door but today is much different.
Standing at the bottom of the staircase. There they were the perfect family. Don't get me wrong I don't hate them neither like them, it's somewhat in between. I never felt accepted in my life, it was like I was a big nobody.
"Good morning my two beautiful daughters and Avery," Mom said. Dad came in and went to stand beside her. I wonder what was this all about.
"Mom, can you hurry up already I have school," Summer said annoyed.
When since Summer is excited about school?
Winter on the other hand looked un-bothered as if she rather be somewhere else than here.
"I'm sorry honey, I have an announcement, your father and I will be going on a small vacation for two weeks, so we won't be here to help you as to how you need. However, look after each other and be nice," she emphasized.
Vacation.
For two weeks.
I was relieved to know they won't be home.
Summer and Winter could care less about me and my well-being.
Everyone turns to look at me waiting for my response. I simply nodded and stormed out of the room.
I stood on the sidewalk waiting for the school bus to arrive.
Ping! Ping! Ping!
It was my phone notifying me of whatever message I've received. I rummaged through my backpack.
Atlas!
The stupid phone was in my bag bottom.
Unlocking my phone, it was a message from Desmond stating that he was going to pick me up for school in the next five minutes. I replied with a thumbs-up emoji unsure of what to say. Mom and Dad came out, went into their car, and drove away. Summer and Winter came out giggling as Aaron sped down the road in his Mercedes-Benz. They entered his car laughing like idiots.
Our old neighbor, Linda muttered to herself, "Kids these days."
I chuckled at her comment whilst she went back to watering her lovely daffodils. Desmond pulled up in his car giving me a wide smile, I returned it as well.
"Good morning Ave, this is your Captain Desmond your driver that will be taking you to school please, climb abroad."
I laughed at his words before following up on his antics.
"Thank you, my dear," I said in a fake British Accent.
I opened the car door and went inside," You're a bad captain, didn't even open the door for me."
His face began to turn red out of embarrassment before he laughed lightly and began our journey to school.
