Chapter 1: Mori

"Suffering".

"It means the state of undergoing pain, distress, or hardship".

"That was the word we were all feeling when were stripped from our own world, and lost everything".

It was dark, as it was silent. Way too silent. There was no talking nearby nor thoughts in her head.

No imagery either, just the quiet blissful dark.

"Get the defibrillator ready in place." A voice called out as movement was also heard.

"Clear!"

A sudden jolt of electricity stung the girl's chest but to no response.

"Let's try again." Another voice spoke out.

"Clear!"

Another spark of electricity was jolted into the girl as before, this time waking her up in shock.

"She's gaining consciousness." Another voice spoked. "Should we get the doctor?"

There was talking all over, but to the girl, she could only hear murmuring around her.

《 Where am I ?》

Breathing hard and sweating bullets, Her vision slowly started to adjust to the light and people around her.

"Ma'am, can you hear me?"

Hearing the voice clearly, she turned her head to the left side, to see the person clearly.

"Can you hear me ?" The person spoke.

"Yeah..."

"Alright hearing is recovering, now ma'am can you see me?"

The girl's vision was still blurry, But she could see the robotic being looming above her.

" Yes…"

"Alright both seem to recover after the shock, we'll just be doing some tests to see if your body can still respond." The being spoke.

《 Is that a... robot? 》

The girl's eyes then head shifted to the right side to not only see the patient room clearer, but there was also more robots.

《 There's more of them? 》

Another robot entered the room with a syringe and offered it to the robot that was speaking to the girl earlier ago.

"Alright so we will be testing your body physically do forgive us if it starts to hurt, it will be a part of the test."

Before the girl could respond the syringe was injected into her, and a painful scream echoed on that floor.

"Physical body had positive reactions to the test, terribly sorry that we had to hold you down and if it hurt you ma'am." The robot spoked apologetically.

Her body was sore and her arm hurt after that. She felt more cranky, but she tried to do her best to be polite anyway.

"It's fine, I'm sure I'll manage."

《 What kind of test was that? I know he's apologizing, but still I'm pretty certain there's a type of medicine that numbs pain.》

《 And second there was no need to hold me down at full force! 》

"Anyway we will start testing on your mental state if you had severe damages in the head during the hyper-sleep trust me it won't hurt unlike the physical test, it'll only just be questions."

《 Hyper-sleep? 》

Grabbing a piece of paper file and attaching it to a clipboard, The robot began.

"So first off, do you know what you are?"

"Human...i hope."

"Alright good answer." the robot spoke as he began writing down.

"Next question, are you aware of your surroundings?"

"I'm in a patient room."

"Correct, next question." the robot spoke with enthusiasm.

"Do you remember who you are?"

Silence filled the room once again.

"Ma'am are you ok?" The robot asked.

《 Did I perhaps said that question a bit too soon? 》 The robot thought in concern.

The girl remained silent. Deep in thought.

《 Who...am I? 》

"I... I don't know... I can't...remember."

"Do you have any memories to recall anything?"

She thought hard, but no memory other than earlier today was recalled.

"... I'm sorry but...no."

"Ah... I see." The robot said in disappointment as he wrote "Memory recovery failed" on the paper file.

"Do you perhaps have any way to help gain my memories back?" The girl asked.

"Of course, we have a memory recovery system that helps you gain one memory at a time, but do understand it'll regenerate power after one memory is resurrected, and it was recently used, so it'll take a while."

" I see."

《 I don't mind waiting for a bit, after all I still need to recover. 》

"Alright, now just to be sure you don't remember who you are?"

"No sir."

"I'm supposed to have a name and age regardless so if it's alright with you having a nickname until your memories have returned?"

"Its fine with me." The girl said.

"Alrighty then just let me think of one." the robot tapped the clipboard with his pen repeatedly as he concentrated.

"How bout Mori ?" he asked.

"Mori?"

"If it doesn't suit you then we can think of another nickname."

"..."

《 It doesn't sound bad. 》

"I like Mori ,I'll take it. "

" Wonderful." the robot spoke with enthusiasm as he wrote "Mori" on the file.

"Just to remind you, we'll be taking care of your health and help restore your memories for the next few months, so if you need anything, we'll help you out anytime."

"I'll look forward on helping you." The robot smiled and offered a handshake.

The girl now named Mori, at bit hesitant, couldn't help but smile warmly at her new name, and accepted the handshake.

"Ok, I'll look forward on meeting you too."
