Nelson took a deep breath, he had to tell the truth, or he would be dead.
* "Well, I spent a few days with her, and it was then when the guards of the Blue Moon pack arrested me. They took me to their dungeons, where they initially put me in a damp cell at the end of the hallway. I stayed there for a few hours, and then they took me out. That's when I realized I had been placed in someone else's cell. I only saw a pathetic figure—a small and battered she-wolf. I felt profound sadness wondering if she was still alive because she looked really bad. After that, they interrogated me, and I claimed to have been bewitched by the woman. They released me, and here I am, Your Majesty. I swear it," I said, my eyes filled with terror, almost emitting flames.
* "Are you telling me that the last place you were in was a cell, and the tortured she-wolf was not there?" the Queen asked, grinding her teeth.
Nelson swallowed and responded immediately.
* "Yes, Your Majesty. She was just a girl. The place was a mess. The mattress was dirty and old, garbage was scattered everywhere. What confused me was the blood on the mattress; it seemed like the she-wolf was constantly bleeding. By her lycan ability, she should have healed, but she didn't. I believe she must be poisoned. There is no other explanation," the merman said, and I felt like I was losing control of Cronos. My Lycan was furious, and I could barely hold him back. He was inches away from taking control.
* "Your Majesty, if that's the case, we don't have time. Let's invade the Blue Moon pack once and for all," Dani said, annoyed and outraged. If they are on my territory, they're digging their own grave, and it shall be so.
Just when I was about to accept my Beta's proposal, I heard my aunt's voice speaking firmly.
* "Anubis, calm down. Don't do something reckless. We can't risk her safety. Let's take her out of there and assess the situation. Send someone to find out why the Southern Hemisphere Moon Queen is in that cell. Let's get her to safety first, and then we'll decide what to do with that pack," I heard her say, and she was right. My aunt has always been a wise woman, and I cannot doubt her now. I just want my Moon Queen to be safe.
I looked at my Beta and Gamma to give them the order.
* "Tonight, I will take my Luna. I want you to organize everything. We'll enter without being seen; it has to be a swift operation," I said as they nodded and left with Nelson to get a map of the area. We'll go in and rescue my Mate.
Pietro, my Delta, arrived with some information as I prepared to leave. What he informed me was truly sickening and insane.
Thesai Arente, an 18-year-old girl at the moment, imprisoned and tortured for being the young Alpha's rejected Mate. She had accepted the rejection and was punished by the Alpha, locking her up and subjecting her to daily punishments. She was a low-ranking Omega, just a child of 16. The outrage almost made me lose control, but I calmed Cronos, telling him we had to remain composed to rescue her. If we delay, she might die.
That's how we headed to the Blue Moon pack. The helicopter landed relatively close. I didn't want to unleash my Lycan, as it would destroy the entire city. I would only tap into a part of my Lycan if it became an emergency.
Under the cover of darkness, we infiltrated the dungeons. It wasn't very challenging; the guards of this pack were disastrous. When we reached the area Nelson had identified, I sensed it again—the delightful scent of wildflowers and aromatic herbs blending perfectly.
We made our way to the location, but two guards intercepted us. I killed them as quickly as possible, hoping they hadn't connected the situation to their Alpha. To leave no trace, I had to mark my mate, erasing her scent that tied her to this cursed pack and avoiding suspicion if someone saw us or got too close. I approached her and could feel that she was alive, weak but alive.
I kicked the door open, desperate to see her, to free her from there, but what I saw left me truly shocked. She had tattered clothes, skin and bones. I felt her fear and immediately jumped on the little puppy to cover her mouth, unsure if she would scream. When I caught her scent even stronger, I almost lost control. It was her, my mate, my Moon Queen. She was so helpless and mistreated, so I resigned myself to leaving a few bites on her delicate neck, marking her. She had to break her ties with the pack, and now she was mine, only mine. When I felt her faint, I immediately lifted her up to take her with me.
As we flew in the helicopter, Rafael handed me a pack of wet wipes, and I slowly cleaned her face and arms. She was a mess.
We landed, and the doctor immediately went to see her. Although she was fragile, I didn't want her presence to leak, especially in that condition. My friend, the doctor, gave the little puppy a strong dose of antidote; it was obvious she had been poisoned. He also administered antibiotics as she wasn't healing on her own, and her wounds were infected. I still can't comprehend how she's still alive. After a couple of hours, she started to look better. My sister and aunt cleaned her with wet towels, removing the dirt accumulated during her two-year confinement.
I was not with her; the Elder Wolves called me for a meeting. The happiness was immense. They were thrilled that my Mate had arrived. They knew that my Lycan was becoming increasingly uncontrollable, so it was great news that the owner of Cronos' heart had appeared.
