Upon arriving home, Jaehan heard voices speaking.
He took a few steps to see Anna conversing with the Omega, both laughing. At his sight, she grew solemn and pondered what to say, for she had undoubtedly disobeyed him. Jaehan saw them both, but Saije didn't even glance his way. To him, it was as if no one had arrived.
"Young Jaehan, I apologize, and..."
"And why are you apologizing?" Saije interrupted. "You don't need to say sorry to anyone because I can give orders here too."
"Who said you could give orders?" challenged the Alpha, removing his tie. "I am the only one here who can give orders. Anna, you may leave now."
"No, you're not going anywhere," Saije retorted, grabbing her arm.
The poor woman found herself caught between them, uncertain of what to actually do while they began to shout at each other. She didn't know if she should ignore Saije's vulgarities or turn a blind eye.
"Anna, comply," Jaehan instructed.
"She should obey me, idiot!" Saije exclaimed, yanking her arm.
Jaehan, exhausted from work, found Saije increasingly intolerable, as if someone were paying him to act this way. He stepped forward to grasp Anna's other arm.
"You're leaving."
"She's not!" Saije protested. "You keep me locked up here every day and lied about firing everyone."
"That's to teach you not to be whimsical."
"You won't teach me anything!"
"You're ill-mannered as well."
"And you're an arrogant asshole! This place is driving me insane, I hate this house, everything in it, and you!"
Jaehan pulled Anna with more force, and she had no choice but to comply and walk, listening to Saije behind her.
"Enough! What are you trying to accomplish?!"
He ignored the question until Anna was outside the house, then turned towards the bathroom, disregarding everything Saije yelled after him. He became deaf to it all, blind to it all.
"Damn fool! I refuse to stay here!"
He also ignored this to shower, as he heard the door slam shut behind him. Glancing over his shoulder, he sighed, closing his eyes briefly before heading towards the door.
"What do we do, sir?" one of his men asked, as they saw him dash out as fast as his legs would carry him.
Jaehan considered chasing after him, but he was too worn out and utterly spiritless.
"Leave him be, I'll go after him later."
He showered, diminishing the importance of it all. He ate in silence and even watched some television, until at nine o'clock, there was still no sign of Saije. He watched the clock for a few minutes before standing and walking to his dark blue car, starting it up to drive around. The headlights illuminated everything. He steered with one hand while shifting gears with the other.
His house was too far from the road to be reached on foot, and he knew Saije wasn't a strong runner. He'd be impressed if Saije had made it even halfway.
There were no other cars since only he used this road. A dust trail followed the car, driving on a stony path that led to the paved road. He looked around for something furious, irritable, arrogant, vain, and yellow, as Saije's hair was no longer pink, until his lights shone on something sitting by the roadside under some trees.
He stopped, and Saije, filled with fear, wondered who it might be. He couldn't see inside through the tinted windows until the passenger window began to lower slowly.
He saw the Alpha with that detested face and looked away.
"Are you done throwing a tantrum?" Jaehan asked, amused by the situation.
The Omega gave no response, feigning ignorance, and hugged his legs tighter, shivering from the cold.
"Are you getting in, or are you gonna stay out there forever?"
"I'll stay here until I die!" Saije declared.
"Fine," said the Alpha nonchalantly and sped off, leaving Saije in a cloud of dust.
Saije coughed and stood, angered by Jaehan's indifferent departure. He wanted to throw a stone and shatter the rear window, but it was too late; the car had vanished. Blinded by dust and coughing uncontrollably, he heard strange noises behind him; fear gripped him when he saw lights approaching rapidly. Jaehan hadn't left; he had just driven on to find a spot to turn around due to the narrow way, allowing for only one car to pass. Driving past Saije, whipping up even more dust, he stopped and lowered his window.
"Do you want to get in now? It's known that rabid dogs roam these parts at night."
"Do you think I'm an idiot? I told you I'll stay here; I'd rather die of cold than go back to that filthy place."
Jaehan watched him through the door mirror, patiently remarking when Saije sat down again.
"Alright, I guess we'll spend the night together."
"Not in your wildest dreams would I spend a night with you, fool!"
"Alright, as you wish."
He turned on the car light and picked up a newspaper beside him to read. Noticing it was now half-past ten, he felt extremely tired yet knew he couldn't leave Saije out there, much as he wanted to.
Twenty minutes ticked by, the Omega's chill deepening, but admitting it was out of the question, stubborn as a mule with pride beyond measure. He closed his eyes, attempting forced sleep when mosquitoes started to bite, itching unbearable from their stings.
Then came the barking Jaehan had warned about. Saije looked around, but meeting Jaehan's gaze in the mirror, he feigned indifference. He thought it would end there, but he was mistaken.
"Uh oh, here come the dogs," Jaehan noted, still peering into the mirror.
Unable to help it, Saije looked to see dust kicked up by approaching dogs. Panic froze him for seconds.
"I'm leaving," he heard the Alpha say, as the car started moving.
Spinning around, Saije dashed towards the car, but Jaehan sped up.
"So, you want to get in now," Jaehan mocked, stopping and then speeding off just as Saije neared the door.
"Stop it! Let me in!"
The growling intensified, seeming to come from all sides.
"Fine, get in."
Saije felt the door handle in his grasp when the vehicle lurched forward again. Tripping over his feet, he fell, groaning as his knees and palms ached.
"You should say the magic words, so you learn things aren't easily obtained. I warned you about the dogs, but your pride wouldn't listen."
"Wait, please! Let me in!" he cried out as the dogs neared.
Jaehan halted, opening the passenger door, and Saije scrambled in just in time. The canines arrived a second later, barking furiously, foam-flecked mouths signaling potential rabies. They nearly leaped onto the car in their frenzy.
The vehicle moved carefully to avoid hitting any, and the dogs eventually lost interest, veering away from the road. Shifting gears, Jaehan sped home. He killed the engine, watching Saije alight and slam the door. Observing his limp, Jaehan simply got out and went to bed after such an exhausting day. He figured Saije would no longer attempt escape after facing the pack.
Passing by his room, he paused for a moment at the sound of weeping. Dismissing it, he went to his room to rest, considering it another tantrum—but Saije felt dreadful. His knees and hands were wounded. He tried to clean himself up and choked back tears in anger.
Unsure how long he cried, Saije never left his room the next day, lying on the bed, feeling miserable.
