Episode 5

Saije chuckled quietly to himself as he watched him sip coffee and eat the bacon and eggs he had prepared.

His blue hair made him look comical, and Saije thought he was just like Grumpy Smurf. He watched as he left without another word and assumed he'd have at least a month to laugh at him for trying to make a fool of him. Saije stayed home, as usual, busying himself with this and that as time ticked by. He had already cooked something and cleaned up because he got so bored doing nothing. Then, he decided to start walking around the place. The house was large, and when he had cleaned it, he hadn't had enough time to check everything that was there. At that moment, his only thought had been to shut him up, and that was that.

He wandered the place until he reached a room he hadn't cleaned. It was locked, but he had found some keys in a drawer and tried them to see if one would fit.

When one clicked, the door opened, and he peered inside. It was all dark because the window was curtained and it was small.

The dust was immediately palpable, and he entered cautiously because the floor creaked. He didn't know where to step as there was no light. He felt around to identify things and found they were just sofas covered with blankets. He coughed a bit because the dust stirred at the slightest movement. The lighting was dim, but he could see well enough. He saw some broken chairs, tables, couches, a few paintings, and some vacuum cleaners that no longer worked.

There was even a wheelchair, whose owner he could not guess. He paused thoughtfully for a few moments but then just continued looking around. When rays of sunlight pierced through holes in the curtain, they illuminated something Saije dearly missed.

He was more than accustomed to playing the violin. He loved playing one and doing so whenever he felt like it. He missed his own dearly but thought it didn't matter if it was someone else's, he just wanted one in his hands. Before he could touch it, that was when he heard the door being opened. He moved quickly to exit and shut the door, hiding the keys because he had no intention of being called nosy or something worse. They passed each other in the hallway without a glance.

He went to his room for a few minutes and then to the bathroom to shower. He was tired because he never usually did so much, but he was starting to think that cooking his own food wasn't so dull since he could make it just as he liked.

He emerged from the shower humming a tune until he let out a scream upon seeing his yellow hair in the mirror. The Alpha was reading the newspaper when he heard the scream and cracked a small, satisfied smile because there was nothing sweeter than revenge.

"Damn madman! How dare you?" he exclaimed as he walked up to him.

The Alpha didn't even look up, just kept reading the paper calmly until a towel hit his face.

"You will pay dearly for this! No one touches my hair! If I were you, I wouldn't close my eyes tonight!"

"One should know for every action, there is a reaction. You should have thought better before tampering with the shampoo I used."

"And you should have thought better before bringing me to this awful house! I can't even leave because of you! I could call the police for holding me captive!"

"I have never said you can't leave," Jaehan spoke calmly as usual, "you just can't try to escape or it will end badly for you."

The Omega laughed loudly.

"The only one it's going to end badly for is you, you brainless beast!"

He stood up while listening to him continue to curse his name incessantly. He looked at his yellow hair and pointed at it with his index finger. He thought it was almost amusing because he was small but had the stamina to nag all night long.

"If you stop this foolishness and behave, then I won't do anything else. I don't have time to keep up with your nonsense."

"I don't care, if you don't let me leave here, then I will never stop making your life hell because I don't like you, and you will never be likeable to me. You won't get anything from me."

"I want nothing from you, I could never like someone as unbearable as you. You are here only because of the contract and that's it."

Saije glared at him fiercely. His chest heaved with the force of wanting to punch his face until he could no more. He wanted to punch his face until his knuckles hurt. He thought, the bigger they are, the stupider they are. He was so angry he even wanted to cry, but he would not let it happen.

"I could never like someone like you either! You lack everything it takes to have someone like me by your side!"

He spun on his heels to retreat to his room to cry in peace. He loved his hair, and now it was ruined. He felt alone and tired of everything. His parents had not called even once, assuming it was only his fault for always acting that way, but Saije had reasons to keep everyone at bay, and his parents had no clue why, as it was something the Omega dealt with alone ever since that event happened.

He settled into bed to continue crying because he knew he always pushed everyone away but preferred it that way a thousand times over. He preferred to push everyone away without a care just so they wouldn't see him as weak and fragile.

The pressure in his chest was so intense it almost prevented him from breathing, and he longed for someone, for a friend, for a hug, for someone to tell him everything would be alright. He shut his eyes tight and tried to fall asleep, resolving to stay in his room the next day. He stayed locked away, watching the day pass through the window.

He saw Jaehan arrive, but made no attempt to leave his room, and the Alpha did nothing to ensure he ate or to ask if he had. They each retreated to their own rooms as if the other did not exist.

The next day, Saije approached the door as usual, to try and open it, expecting it to be locked, but he was mistaken. The door opened, and he looked around, assuming it was some prank by the Alpha. He peered out and saw the usual men standing guard over the area. Unsure what to do, he considered running, but knew his chances were slim against men so much bigger and stronger than himself.

He stepped outside and looked around, noting how different everything seemed by day. He spotted a greenhouse and started walking towards it to see what was inside.

"Do you need anything?" one of the men asked, approaching him.

Saije eyed him warily, as the men looked far more serious and intimidating than Jaehan. He swallowed and, despite still feeling sad about his hair, struck his usual distant and brusque pose.

"I'm just going for a walk, keep your distance from me."

The man watched him for a moment. There were ten men patrolling the place, five Alphas and five Betas.

Continuing on, he reached the greenhouse and saw it was full of vegetables. He was surprised by the verdant and red colors of the produce. Then, he noticed a woman bent over at the far end. He watched her for a moment, absorbed in her task and oblivious to his presence until he heard Saije ask:

"Who are you?"

She looked up to stand, wiping her hands on her apron.

"Oh, young Saije, I'm one of the staff."

"What are you doing here?" he demanded, since he was under the impression that all staff had been fired.

"I was just checking the vegetables."

"Why are you the only one here?"

"Well, I just come to check these in the morning and evening, then I spend time at home. Young Jaehan gave everyone else holidays."

Hearing this, anger took hold of Saije as he realized the Alpha had fooled him into believing he had fired everyone.

"Damn scoundrel," he muttered.

"Pardon?" the woman asked, not quite hearing him.

"Nothing, forget it. Do you just come in to check these?"

"Yes, but I also cook some things for him to take to his work."

"So that idiot had someone cooking for him while I had to do everything by myself," he grumbled.

"Do you need anything?"

"Yes, let's go inside the house."

"Young Jaehan said I shouldn't come in and..."

"I couldn't care less what young Jaehan says. It's assumed you must obey me too since I'm married to him, so let's go inside. I've been very lonely these past few days, so, let's go, shall we? I'm not as bad as I seem."

The woman gave a gentle smile.

"Don't worry, one can tell you're not as you seem to be. The kindest people are often hurt, and that's why they sometimes wear shells of cruelty and coldness."
