Story Time
"There has just been a call reporting a murder, at the Meguro River at Ōsaki. The witness asked to get there immediately.” The radio went off as the officer turned the car on. “Great. Looks like the doughnuts would have to wait. Again.” Officer Lang sighed as he looked over to his partner, his face transfixed. “Just drive Lang, and stop complaining every time there’s a call.” Officer Sasuke Satoru hissed with utter frustration, pinching the bridge of his nose in between his index finger and his thumb, slightly messaging it. Why did he have to have this shift tonight? Especially with this officer? “Can we just go please?” He sighed, realizing that he was the one complaining now as the SCPD Officer next to him muttered something under his breath, but turned the car on, activating the sirens.
They finally arrived at the scene, the rain slowly starting to clear when they got out of the car. “Man, I always loved the rain, don’t you?” Officer Ichio Lang sighed as he took a deep breath, the rain falling onto his jet black hair. “I just love the way the water falls onto the river.” He sighed as he held his hands behind his head, following his partner to the crime scene.
“We don’t have any identity yet, but we know that the incident must have taken place between 8 pm or 8:30 pm.” The deputy sighed as they walked over to the victim. Officer Satoru crouched down and angled his head to the side, trying to get a better look at the victim. “That was approximately a couple of minutes ago.” Satoru looked up, and braced his arm on his thigh. “Where is the witness?” He asked as the Deputy gave a sigh. “As soon as we got here, she was cradling herself next to the victim, but as soon as he walked to her, wanting to question her, she made a run for it.” The woman sighed as she shook her head.
Satoru went back to the victim, brushing a strand of hear out of her face after he pulled gloves over his hands. He studied the victim’s body, from her feet to her hands, the light of the sirens dancing in the rain, coloring the blood that matted her skin, then up to her face. “Well, looks like the female might be somewhere in her twenties.” He sighed as he pulled the gloves off, folding the blood covered one into the other and locking it inside a disposal bag, handing it to the Deputy. “Speaking of which, have anything on the witness?” He asked as he looked over to his partner, but he was nowhere to be found. “Damn you, Lang.” He sighed, hoping that his partner wasn’t somewhere ranting about not getting any time off, and was helping instead. “Well, you’d be surprised to hear this.” She huffed as they walked back to the people investigating the body. “Amuse me.” Satoru sighed as he kept his attention on the body. He then realized the blood that was surrounding the body, must have died from blood lost or something. “A child.” She took a deep breath. He looked at her slowly, and to say, he was amused, but terrified and confused at the same time. “A child?” He repeated what she said as she nodded. “Yes sir, about six or seven; if I was to guess her age. White hair.” She took another deep breath. “Found mourning next to the body, or so it looked.” She shook her head, turning towards the alley not far from the scene. “Ran straight there.” She pointed as he nodded. “Hay, if I may ask.” She added as he looked at her, away from the location she was pointing to. “Sure.” He nodded as she swallowed. “I heard a rumor, that you were good with kids, maybe just try to calm her-” She fiddled with her hands.
Something about this question was eating on him. Maybe he was just getting the wrong impression. “Miss, you’re not suggesting that the child is the killer, are you?” He roared as she flinched. “I didn’t mean to, um, shout.” He cleared his throat. “No, but she is a suspect. Whether you like it, or not.” She seemed to growl back before turning around, walking back to the scene. He didn’t approach the situation as planned. At some point, he’ll have to go and apologize her. As she said, whether he’d like it, or not.
He looked up and looked back to the alley. He had to find this little girl, maybe she would maybe give him some answers. And if that blood trail that caught his eye, leading straight to the alley was that strong, flooding in the rain like that, then she would have a major wound on her. And with that age- “Damn I hate this job.” He cursed to himself as he reached his hand to where his weapon was, but shook his head as he started jogging for the alley.
Officer Satoru walked through the alley, the rain slowly starting to fall a bit harder. “Aren’t you an obedient little thing?” He suddenly heard a voice when with instinct, he removed his weapon and loaded it, getting ready for anything. “Oh yes, you are.” He heard again, but couldn’t make the voice through the rain falling onto the bins and boxes around him. Then it struck him, the voice didn’t belong to a little girl, but rather a grown man. Now he was getting frustrated. Did the killer hide here, was he the injured one?
Slightly hissing once more with frustration, he pressed his back to one of the containers and peeked around the corner, seeing someone crouch in the shadows. He turned back, taking a couple of deep breaths, the worst case scenarios running through his mind. Did the killer already reach the child, why did he even think that the killer would even be around, and not make a run for it? He really had to get his thought under control. Only one option left. Act.
Taking one last breath, he swung around the corner, holding his weapon out. “SCPD! Hold your hand up, and don’t move!” He shouted when suddenly the person jumped up, his hand in the air. “I’m with you guys!” The voice shouted as he found himself instantly groan in anger, ready to strangle this person. “I’m from the SCPD!” He shouted once more as he lowered his hands. “Damn it, Lang!” He shouted as the man walked closer to Satoru. “I was only petting the cat, you have a problem with that?!” He hissed as he walked to Satoru, almost walking him into the wall. “We are at a crime scene, and your petting a stray cat?!” Satoru barked in frustration as his partner nodded. “Yes! And I will go back there, and take-” His last words were cancelled out by a gunshot and a cry. “It came from the north!” Lang shouted as they started to run further into the alley.
“Why were you here anyway?” Lang hissed as they ran through the rain. “They say the witness ran this way.” Satoru shouted back as they took a turn, skiing through the rain puddles, Lang slipping into the wall, but that didn’t slower his pace. “Age 6 to 7, female, white hair.” He added as Lang chuckled. “Oh, I saw her a couple of minutes ago.” He grinned as Satoru came to harsh stop. “What?” He hissed as he closed his eyes, his fists falling at his sides as he slowly looked up. “Yeah, she had white hear, well, the tips and pieces of it was dyed and she was running.” He huffed, impressed with himself.
Now Satoru understood why no one wanted to team up with him. He didn’t do his job. Not to mention, that he was still a damn rookie as it is. “For the love of-!” Satoru barked as he gave Lang a backhand, Lang’s head snapping forward. “When we get back to the office, you go straight to the Chief’s office.” He barked as he started running again. “As far as I’m concern, you don’t make the calls!” Lang barked back as he tried to keep up. “We’ll see about that.” Satoru muttered to himself as he came to a blinding stop once more, grabbing his weapon. “SCPD!” He shouted when a man jerked around. “Hand’s where I can-” He couldn’t finish his sentence when he gasped, cursing to himself. Damn, damn, damn! He was too late!

“Don’t even try that!” The man standing in front of Satoru hissed as he held his weapon the in the air. “Or this little princess dies.” He hissed, his breathing a rush as he held the little girl to his chest, her feet kicking in the air. “Just put the girl down.” Satoru’s eyes went wide, not at the face that the blood was practically dripping from the child, but at the way his voice shivered, the fear he felt. Panic. “Just-” Satoru said as calmly as he could, lowering his weapon to the ground. “See love, now that’s what you call an obedient little officer.” The man snarled into the little girl’s ear. “Please let me go!” She whimpered as he hissed, pressing the barrel of the weapon into her face. “Shut it.” He barked as she sobbed. “Just let the child go! Money!” Satoru was sounding ridiculously hopeless as he let the weapon fall to the ground, the sound of the metal falling into the puddle of water, made the man point the gun to him. Damn, bad move Satoru. He scolded himself as he held his hands up. “Anything you want, I’ll give it to you, just let her go.” He pleased as he sank to his knees. “Pathetic.” The man hissed as he loaded the gun.
But suddenly the girl shouted after the weapon went off. Satoru watched, but realized that the shot came from the west. The man cried out in pain as Lang shot him in his leg. The man barked a line of curses as he threw the child to the wall, a sound of bones cracking thundered through the air as the man made a run for it. Before even having the chance to think, Satoru sped to the child, seeing that Lang came to a stop. “We can’t let him get away!” Satoru shouted as Lang nodded, fear staining his features.
Satoru skied through the water as he fell down in front of the child, the water splashing everywhere. “Hay, Are you okay?” Satoru huffed as the little girl pushed herself to the wall, crying in pain. “I’m not going to hurt you.” He sighed as he held his hand out. The little girl looked up, her hair matted with blood and slowly reached out to his. “I’ll make sure you are safe.” He exhaled before the girl jumped on him, holding him like her life depended on it.
