At the Gultom family residence, another argument erupted. Miranda was still faulting Vin for disrupting the event and kept defending Mateo, her second son-in-law.
Vindra was baffled by her mother-in-law's thinking—it was clear that her brother-in-law's actions had disgraced their extended family, yet she continued to place the blame on her.
Vin just wanted the Gultom family to treat him fairly, to regard him the same as the other in-laws since he was also a son-in-law within the Gultom family.
"Vin, you'd better leave this house. Mom is sick of your antics, you've embarrassed your brother-in-law with your behavior. Can't you respect and honor your in-laws instead of acting on your whims? You've even disgraced the Gultom family in public," Miranda snapped irritably, pointing out the door.
Mr. Gultom wanted to calm his wife down but was powerless to intervene or do anything once she was upset.
"I've done nothing wrong, Ma. I did what I believed was right. Is dad happy getting a fake gift like that on his birthday? No, right, Ma? But why are you still defending Mateo, who is also a son-in-law in this house? I am also a son-in-law to this family; you should treat me the same as the other in-laws. Why are you treating me so unfairly?" Vin retorted angrily at the injustice of the Gultom family, after all his efforts to be a good son-in-law. Yet, just because he was poor, the Gultom family looked down on him.
"Yes, you are both in-laws, but your statuses are worlds apart. Mateo has a clear future, while you only spend Sifa's money," Miranda insulted, infuriating Vin further.
Vin clenched his fists, restraining his anger. He turned to Sifa, who had been silent all along, hoping that she would defend him, so he might attain some justice.
"What mother says is true. You should apologize to your brother-in-law so this can all be resolved. You also did wrong, Vin. You shouldn't have disrupted the party and cause a scene. Couldn't you have proved it after the event so as not to embarrass Mateo?" Sifa spoke, siding with her mother, causing Vin to shake his head in disbelief.
"I am truly disappointed, Sifa. I thought you would stand by me as your husband, but in fact, you did not at all, even thinking I was wrong. What's the point of maintaining a relationship where there's no trust or support? Alright then, we should just get divorced. I should have done this rather than suffer such injustice in the Gultom family." Vin's statement left Sifa stunned. She could hardly believe Vin would propose divorce.
"Did you say divorce? It should be me saying that. I've been planning to divorce you. I've never really considered you as my husband. But it's not fitting for you to ask for a divorce from me—it should be I who divorces you, not the other way around," Sifa retorted, refusing to accept Vin initiating the divorce.
"No way! I won't allow Sifa to agree to a divorce just like that."
"Why not? Isn't divorce what you all want? You've all tried various means to separate me and Sifa, so why stop me when I'm ready to give up?" Vin raised his voice, no longer caring about speaking to his elders.
Months before, Miranda had indeed tried different ways to drive a wedge between Sifa and Vin, but she constantly failed, leading her to despair. This time, however, Miranda had a plan to capitalize on Vin.
"Fine. If you're adamant about divorcing, you must meet one condition. And if you succeed, I will have Sifa sign the divorce papers that very day," Miranda offered.
"Tell me what I must do to be able to part ways with Sifa quickly."
"If you want to divorce Sifa, you have to go to the BMX company and collect a debt of one billion. If you succeed, you'll be able to divorce Sifa right away," Miranda instructed.
"Fine. Fine. If doing that will let me divorce Sifa, I'll do it. But remember, Mom, you must keep your word. If I succeed, do not hinder me from divorcing Sifa," Vin said, leaving Sifa speechless again.
Angry and at a loss, Vin chose to return to his room, and Sifa followed her husband.
"Vin, I need to talk to you. How dare you request a divorce from me. You should know, you have no right to ask for a divorce. Only I can ask for a divorce from you, understand?" Sifa yelled.
"Why should I stay in this relationship? If you've never loved me. Not to mention defending me. Is a relationship like this worth holding onto?" Vin countered.
"How can I love or defend you when you act like a loser who doesn't fight back when oppressed? What pride can I feel in a weak man like you? Yet, I can't let you divorce me like this. I won't let my dignity be destroyed because you ask for a divorce," Sifa snapped back, looking at Vin with anger.
"You're truly selfish, Sifa. Always thinking of yourself, not caring about others. Have you ever considered my feelings, living as an in-law in your family's house? I still have dignity. I can't live under pressure that's suffocating me, and that's why I need to divorce you. Because you've never cared or changed," Vin responded and chose to avoid Sifa, ending the argument and fearing he might lose his patience.
Sifa was hit hard by Vin's words. She realized her own selfishness. Recalling all the good things Vin had done for her, she had never thanked him. Sifa understood that Vin might have been enduring her disregard for too long.
Sifa saw Vin lying down, his back to her as she stood there, motionless.
