Beach Day

"Byeeee!" yells Dia to Justin and his mom Mia, she waves bye vigorously. I have ahold of her wrist, dragging her with me so that we can go turn in our mission for money. I think she has a crush on Justin, because this morning her clumsy self fell on the last step of the stairs and he caught her.

I can't help but feel bad for her, he's so boring. I look at Lucas who is way ahead, he seems to be deep in thought. I want to let go of Dia and see what's up with him, but if I do, Dia will probably run to Justin. I sigh and trudge on.

I walk in silence not even noticing anymore that I have Dia's wrist still. I stare at the back of Lucas's head, wondering whats wrong with him. Dia must have noticed, because I felt a hand lightly placed on my back.

"Hey, you ok? You and Lucas haven't said anything for a while...it's got me all worried."

I shake myself out of my thoughts, "It's nothing...it's just...Lucas is very quiet today...he's usually so hyper and happy..."

She looks to me, then Lucas, and back to me and gives me a big smile.

"I have an idea!" She runs up to Lucas and grabs his hand.

"Whoa! Hey! Dia what the heck are you doing!" She doesn't answer dragging Lucas to the east of the path we are on. I follow behind, wondering what her plan is.

After a half a mile walk, we reach what I assume is our destination. we reach a hill, overlooking what looks like a semi popular beach, people with kids running around and laughing. I sigh, "Dia, we gotta turn in our mission. We have no time for fun at the beach."

She flicks her head towards Lucas as to say "this is for him, you dummy".

I sigh again, "Ok where are we gonna change?"

She points towards a wooden little outhouse, then walks down a slope down the hill, headed towards the beach. I shrug and summon up a cloud to float down on. I look to her with a taunting smirk and I can see she's jealous, I then summon a cloud under Lucas and join his with mine, he falls flat on his but, but the cloud was solid enough not to break.

"Next time warn me Rin," he says with a huff, but he happily accepts the ride.

"Hey! What about me!" yells Dia as she watches us float towards the outhouse.

"Oh, sorry. I can only hold two people." I give her a smug look, but then Lucas undermines me and uses levitation to bring Dia onto one of the open spots on my cloud. She gives me a smirk and sticks her tongue out at me. I give Lucas a glare.

As we get to the outhouse, I let the cloud disperse. Dia falling on her butt while I float myself and Lucas to the ground.

"That was kinda rude ya know?" She points out.

I flip my hair, "Well I wanted to mess with you and taunt you for fun, but Lucas ruined it."

Lucas snorts in amusement, "Yeah, I didn't mean to ruin your fun. I'm sure Dia would have loved it"

He gives her a cheeky grin and we share a laugh together, it felt good being able to tease her and having someone actually enjoy my jokes more than I did.

Dia and I walk towards the outhouse to put on our bathing suits. Thankfully I know transportation spells so I can access our clothes from wherever.

Lucas

A few hours later Rin and Dia come out wearing their bathing suits. I look at Rin, awe struck by her beauty. She was wearing a pink bikini with heart patterns and her bottoms had a pink bow on each side.

Dia was wearing a black one piece that hugged every curve she possibly could have. They were both beautiful women, but I couldn't stop looking at Rin.

We made our way down to the beach after I changed into swim shorts and a tank top.

Dia started playing with the sand, making a small castle. I sat next to her and watched her play.

"What are you building?" I asked curiously.

"A castle. One day I might want to take over my father's estate and I am gonna make changes to it," she says that as she starts making the base of the castle.

I smile watching her build her future domain, but look up when Rin catches my eye. She was practicing her water and ice magic on a small part of the ocean. I stare at her as she makes small ice figures and floats multiples balls of water without spilling any. Her movements reminded me of the way my mother moved and how gracefully she moved. But there was something else besides her gracefulness that drew me in, her hair glistened in the sun, making it look as shiny as a pearl. When she looked at the water, I could see she was smiling. I was mesmerized watching her and suddenly felt like I wanted to kiss her. I was so lost in watching her that I barely noticed Dia talking to me.

"-Lucas? Did you even hear me?" I snap out of my daze, blushing slightly at my sudden lack of awareness. Dia raises an eyebrow at me, "Earth to Lucas!"

I chuckle nervously, "Sorry Dia, what did you say?"

"I said I was getting food, you hungry?"

"Uh yeah, that'd be awesome!" Dia smiles at me before standing and walking off. I follow behind her, feeling embarrassed about my momentary lapse of concentration.

She waves towards Rin's direction and calls out to , "Hey Rin! Let's go get some lunch!"

Rin turns towards us and nods. Dia leads me and Rin to the area near the pier where everyone gets lunch. Dia orders for all of us while we wait for our order. After getting our sandwiches and sodas, Dia joins us to eat at the table. I eat slowly enjoying the deliciousness of my sandwich. I am about to bite into it when I heard a sound behind me. I turn to see Dia staring at a woman across the beach. The woman was sitting at a bench reading a book, but I saw the glint of her emerald green eyes. Dia's hands start shaking, but I don't notice until it happens twice more.

Turning back to her I'm about to say something but Rin stops me. She's also slightly jarred by the girl with emerald green eyes.

"That can't be? is it..." Rin trails off, uneasiness in the air.

"Jade..." I hear Dia whispered breathlessly.

The girl turns her eyes to us, like she heard Dia say her name. She gives both Dia and Rin a smug look and walks over to us. Her long brown hair swaying with the wind. "Well look who it is. Two losers." She sneers, glaring directly at .

Dia stands up, anger radiating off her like the smell of a burning match, "I suggest you leave before I do something stupid." She threatens in a dangerously calm tone.

Her voice sends shivers down my spine, it sounds so familiar...but that can't be possible right? All of a sudden a flame bursts on her arm, Jade screams I'm fear and confusion. I look to see where the flame was coming from and it was Rin, her hands glowing red. Her once pink eyes are now a shade red, her anger welling up in her. I yell to Rin to calm down.

"Rin, that's enough!" I grab her hands gently and try calming her down.

"No, she needs to pay for what she did. She hurt you, didn't she?" the question was meant for Dia. She nods, not saying a word.

"Are you going to let her burn her and commit murder for a little bit of bullying," I yell out to Dia, as I continue to try and stop Rin. Jades whole arm caught up in flames.

"It wasn't just a little bullying. She had to keep being transfered from school to school because she was physically hurting the ones she bullied," Dia says, her voice shaking with fear and anger.

I hear the screams of Jade and I can't stand it. I grab Rin by the shoulders and pull her into a hug. It shocks her into stopping. She stops her magic and wraps her arms around me crying. What had Jade done to them to rile them up and traumatize them this much that Rin herself is willing to kill her. Dia still glares at Jade I'm sure she is wishing that she was still on fire.

I let go of Rin and tend to Jade's almost charred arm.

"I'm so sorry for this. I don't know why they did that," I say sheepishly as I start to heal her arm. Rin took Dia to another table, I guess to talk to each other about what was done to them and console each other.

Rin

"So she tortured you too, huh?"

Dia nods shakily, "She would beat me up every other day and torment me..."

"I would fight with her constantly. She tried tormenting my less powerful friends. So I would put her in her place," I say, messing with a loose piece of wood on the table.

"I've never said this..." I look up to the sky, "But she drove one of my friends to off herself from all the constant bullying....I tried so hard to stay around her so that Jade would leave her be...but...I couldn't always be around her..." Dia puts her arm around my shoulder and brings me in for a hug.

I look towards Lucas and I see him and Jade walking towards us. I squeeze Dia's shoulder protectively.

"Hey...look....Dia...Rin...I'm sorry for all the things I put yall through..." She says, not looking at us. Lucas clears his throat to signal for her to continue.

"Look I know there's no excuse...but I was having a bad childhood and I took it out on everyone that I knew that was weaker than me... I only acted hotly when I walked up, because I was jealous that yall are having fun and have friends..."

I glare at her, Jade, was the best bard known in our class. She was semi popular and abused her power. How do I belive that she had a hard life.

I stand up my hands flat on the table, "Jade. let's talk at the other table real quick." She nods and follows me to the other table.

as we sit across from each other I look out towards the ocean.

"How can I believe you actually regret the things you did..."

"I-!"

"NO! You literally drove my FRIEND to off herself!"

"I know! I am deeply remorseful about it! I didn't mean for it to go that far!"

feeling hot tears rolling down my cheeks I look to her, and I do see remorse in those beautiful eyes. I wipe the tears from my face, "Prove it then."

"How?"

"Well your the best bard I know, and we do need one..." right as I say that I want to take my semi offer back so bad.

She smiles big, "Yes! I'd love to join your team!"

Lucas

Rin walks back to us with Jade in tow.

"Welp guys, we just acquired us a bard," she exclaims, Jade smiling behind her.

I feel Dia stiffen, "How could you ask her to join us."

"We need a bard, and I want her to repent for what she did. Please accept my decision..."

She looks away, " Fine...but I'm not happy about it..."

Jade squeals happily and goes to grab her bag from the bench she was sitting on.

Rin looks as Jade happily skips towards her stuff and says to Dia, "If she steps over the line or tries to bullying you....I will scorch her. Without Lucas healing her," she says pointedly looking towards me.

The sun sets and we start getting ready to leave. Jade is sticking close to use as if we were going to leave her behind. The air has been heavy with tension ever since she's joined us. Especially between Rin and Dia. It surprised me when she had Jade join when she was the one trying to burn her.

A shiver of fear goes through my spine at the thought of Rin's wrath. I honestly think she would've killed her if I didn't intervened.

I look towards the setting sun as the girls get dressed into their regular clothes. Letting out a sigh I see Rin was already out of the outhouse. She was staring out at the ocean, her face unreadable. As I approach her, I notice how she seems deep in thoughts.

As soon as I reach her side, she takes in a sharp breath, "What is it?" I ask softly. My hand resting on her shoulder gently. A tear escapes from the corner of her eye.

She turns to face me, her green eyes wide. "Nothing..."

"Don't lie to me Rin, I know you're thinking something. Just tell me." I gently push her chin up so she's looking at me.

"Do you really trust Jade as much as I thought you do?"

"I...I don't know if I do..." She whispers.

"You know...her name was Dahlia..."

"who?"

"My friend..." She looks towards the ocean again, "She loved the ocean and the sky. It made her feel free just looking out in the vast expanse..."

I pull her closer to me one arm around her shoulder. "I know the feeling. There isn't anything more beautiful than gazing into the infinite blue skies and endless sea."

She lays my head on my shoulder and slides her hand behind my back, feeling her hand rest on my side. She closes her eyes and rests her head on my chest. Her breath tickles my neck causing me to chuckle a bit. I slowly run my hands through her curly hair, letting the warm feeling in my heart fill me.

"You both look pretty damn comfy," a teasing voice chimes out behind us, making us jump, Rin pulling away, her cheeks slightly red. I whip around to see who it was and it was Jade and Dia behind us. Dia was smiling at me giving me a thumbs up and Jade had a smug knowing look on her face.

"Ya think?" I ask turning back towards Rin to see her blushing and rubbing the back of her neck.

"So you two got along then? I'm not sure if that's good or bad."

"We got along great," Dia says, she's smiling at Jade.

Jade blushes and rubs her arm shyly. I raise a eyebrow at Dia and she gives me a mischievous smile before she walks away with Jade following her.

"Let's get out of here," I suggest, holding out my hand for Rin. She smiles and takes my hand, we follow Jade and Dia, holding hands and walking pretty close to each other.
