"Aaaaah!" Eva let out a scream.
"Don't test me, Eva. You might be a looker, but I'll have no mercy in killing you if necessary," he hissed through clenched teeth.
"Let go of my arm; you're hurting me!"
"Let her go, Riccardo," Roberto said as he approached.
His gaze shifted from the man to Eva, who was still looking at him, startled.
"Lucky for you, you're pregnant, or else I'd have killed you already."
"Let's go to my office," Roberto said, turning to leave.
"I'm sure I'll get another chance to kill you," he said as he followed Roberto.
"Jerk," Eva yelled after him.
She went back to enjoying the sun, but as lunchtime approached, she headed to the kitchen to make something to eat.
Margo had gone out shopping for baby things, and Eva never joined; she didn't want to get too attached and develop love for the babies.
"Darling, do you want to see the cute clothes I bought for my children?" Margareth asked as she entered and saw Eva eating on the sofa.
"Sure, Margo. No doubt you've picked up beautiful outfits for your ki...ds," Eva struggled with the word.
After eating, Eva went upstairs to the makeshift nursery, decorated in blue and pink. She helped Margo sort the clothes for washing.
"We need to have the bags ready, dear. Sometimes twins come earlier than 40 weeks."
"Yes, we're already at 34. I'll pack my bag, and if you'd like, I can help you with the twins'."
"Don't worry, I'll have someone pack your bag, and I'll prepare my children's today. I just can't wait to hold them in my arms."
Eva returned to her room and began selecting items for her suitcase. She was close to freeing herself from this life and returning to normality.
Day by day, Eva kept to her routine, attending her psychologist to discuss her feelings about her situation, all while acknowledging the flawed path to her dream of becoming a professional dancer.
She returned home to another sunny day, put on a bikini, and lounged by the pool, which Margo said was good for the children.
Riccardo had some business with Roberto, which meant regular visits to their house, especially since they never left Eva alone there, fearing for the safety of their unborn children.
Eva, reclining on a lounge chair by the water, her figure fuller with pregnancy, caught Riccardo's eye, who always lusted after her, desiring her even more now.
"Are you going to keep ogling me?" Eva asked, noticing his lingering gaze.
"You're much hotter when quiet. In fact, you'd be even better on your knees instead of spouting nonsense."
"Typical. You're just a disgusting old man," she said, rising and wrapping herself in a robe.
"Old? I'm just a few years above you."
"Yeah, something like twenty with that scowl of yours," Eva retorted, moving closer.
Each time Riccardo visited Roberto, he made a point to see Eva.
"I love this fiery side of you, dear Eva. One day, you will be mine."
"I've told you that I'll never belong to you. All you want is my virginity, and I assure you, you'll never have it."
She had barely taken a few steps when a searing pain in her belly made her scream in agony.
Riccardo saw her doubled over and moved closer to ask, "What's happening?"
"Help, please. I think the babies are coming," she managed to say through the pain.
With another scream of anguish from Eva, Riccardo was clueless but helped her inside.
"Roberto!" Riccardo yelled, trying to attract attention in the house.
"I didn't realize you'd arrived," the man said as he entered the room.
Seeing Eva crying with pain, he asked, "What have you done to her?"
"Nothing, she's in labor!"
"My children are being born," Roberto exclaimed, confused yet moved.
"We need to get her to the hospital," said Riccardo.
"Yes, I'll grab the baby things," Roberto said, rushing upstairs.
"Eva, where's your room? I'll get your clothes."
"Second door on the left. Take the grey suitcase from the closet by the door."
Riccardo fetched the suitcase and a dress for Eva, returning to help her.
Descending the stairs, he saw Margareth arriving in a panic.
"Come on, we need to hurry to the hospital; my children can't be born now."
The couple's terror made Eva even more anxious, but they managed to leave for the hospital despite their nervousness and confusion.
Riccardo, unlike the rest, remained calm, though the intensity of the situation was extraordinary for someone who cared for no one.
Arriving at the hospital, Eva was taken to her doctor's office and promptly into surgery for a cesarean.
Margareth would be there with her, full of nervous anticipation at her dream of motherhood finally coming true.
In that operating room, one of the two women's dreams would turn into a living nightmare; everything would change with the birth of the babies.
